Importing South-African goods

Masks, giraffes, alcohol and so on...

Hi

I was thinking of importing some South African goods. Like wooden masks, giraffes, beeded flags, curio-shop sort of things.

What would your take be on that?

Cheers

I have a lot of that kind of thing (masks, statues, walking sticks) that I bought over the years from SA and Zimbabwe. I've seen items for sale here but they are always stupidly expensive.

You find a lot of stuff at Tollwood too. I'd suggest you try to get in touch with some of the people who run those stalls and find out if they have actual shops in town or somesuch. It'd certainly give you some better info on what the market might be like.

send an email to the English Cricket board. Theyve had a lot of experience importing south african goods.

You say the goods are expensive...
What price range are you talking about..

Please give me a hint.

Did any of you see any South African brandy or amarula there?

Can't remember exact prices but bear in mind I was comparing the price to what I had paid for them in Africa so the difference was huge.

I saw a bottle of Amarula under my bar yesterday in that's any use.

Hi Pixie,

You can get Amarula at Kaufhof and Hertie/Kartsadt.

There are some stores/stands which sell SAfrican craft but very expensive. For example a candleholder which costs 30 Rands on Greenmarket Square goes for about 20 euros over here...

The prices are this high because the customs costs are so high. I had the idea of doing the same when I just came to SA, but the import costs were just too high.

@Pixie

Please put peppermint crisps on top of your list. And Cider would be nice as well. Mmmm, some nice red wines? I think you'd have more luck selling such items. You can leave the giraffes in Africa though. Thank you and pm me when the peppermint crisps are there. wink.gif MajorBummer.

Also check out Biltong.de over on Wasserburgerlandstr.

Not a bad little shop. Also does packs of 4 boerwurst for €5(Not the big curly ones). Fairly good wine selection and a a load of different BBQ sauces and marinades etc.

There's a SA wine shop on Frauenstr. nr. Tal which has a few extras. Very expensive though. Never seen Amarula here although in Holland it's in every liquor store.
Pixie
thanks for letting me know...

I obviously thinking of so many other things I could import...but when you
are in Africa..you see all the wonderful things that one could bring to munich, and
when you arrive and want to start something, then you hit a blanc spot..

But I am getting there..We just arrived in Munich Yesterday, 10september. So when
we are settled, then I will start my big mission

But

Please, if there is anything you guyz and galz can think of, please let me know..
