Canadian Club in Munich is an informal group of Canadians living in Munich. They meet for food and drinks about once a month, usually in the second week of the month. This is a kind of "Canadian Stammtisch". Details of the date, time, and chosen venue are posted here.
See also the discussion archive from previous months.

Alrighty, let's have one hell of a Canada Day celebration in Munich

YES!!!
and are you ever going to have a meet-up on a day I can come?
Brennz
Jun 18 2008, 12:56 am
So its hard to keep up on things being here in Canada, I have yet to book a place so I will do it for next week instead. Then we will meet again for Canada day.
Options for Canada day: Beergarden , like last year
Restaurant with a large room reserved, have to book soon
Grill party on the
Isar or at a park
Someone hosts it, but thats a lot of work, I would love to do that, but our yard is a little small.
Its gonna be good no matter what.

Somewhere outside like beer garden or park sounds fab if the weather is warmer. A bit less formal too and makes it easier to chat to everyone! Let me know if I can do anything to help! Looking forward to it and very happy to see the sun shine today!

Agreed, beergarden & bbq would be great, let's just keep our fingers crossed that this lovely weather keeps up!
and yes, if i can help out, let me know

would it be on the 1st (the tuesday) or on the weekend?
Sari
Jun 19 2008, 8:34 pm
Well...we could wait until Friday

It's a tough call...I would rather celebrate Canada Day on Canada Day, but I get the whole problem with having to work on Wednesday...
IMHO I don't want to celebrate Canada day on the 4th of July...
Carm
Jun 19 2008, 8:36 pm
I personally cannot attend the 1st, I work til 8. So, something on the 29th would be okay, or heck even the 4th, I don't really care to celebrate an American holiday.
liutaia
Jun 20 2008, 4:50 pm
My vote's for the first (well, I'll be celebrating the first, anyway), but barring that, I'd say the 29th. Not so big on the american holiday thing.

Hmm..
well I definitely prefer celebrating Canada Day ON Canada Day, definitely not on the 4th of July...

Hey,
We would like to join in the Canada day celebration, but we have a 7months old baby, so my question is, are babies welcome, or this will not be such a baby-friendly environment?
Please let me know and thanks in advance,
Marta
Carm
Jun 23 2008, 10:56 am
everyone is welcome, but guess it depends on the venue if you want to bring a baby in.
mms
Jun 23 2008, 11:15 am
That's why i've asked if it will be a baby-friendly environment. We don't want to leave the baby with some strangers yet, so where we go baby goes...
Anyone else intends to bring babies/kids?
Carm
Jun 23 2008, 12:04 pm
we haven't picked a place yet, so its hard to say its kid friendly, but if it in a beergarten, its definately fine to bring kids.
mms
Jun 23 2008, 12:48 pm
Please let me know when you pick a place. Thanx

Jun 23 2008, 12:58 pm
Definitely July 1st! I say a beergarden would be perfect, if the weather is good. I'm pretty sure I've seen babies at beergardens before, though not participating in consumption, of course. And you can bring your own food, too, so no worries about baby-friendly fare.

Jun 24 2008, 2:10 pm
Now shall we come to some sort of consensus?

then we can start getting ideas about the venue, and things...what's the usual way that the group makes a decision!?
also..I'm thinking we want to have some Canadian flags (yes, even those small lil ones will do)!? Where can we get some?
Brennz
Jun 25 2008, 8:38 am
Usually I pick the place but I am in Canada at the moment so I have hardly had the time. I wrote a really long email to send to the group then the power went out on my computer, ( Saskatchewan thunderstorms!!!) so I got frustrated.
Babies are more than welcome, its definitely a family event!
I am torn though guys!!! Should we do the 1st and book a beergarden like last year??? That was a great turnout! Even though its a tuesday it might me allright. I have tons of Canadian stuff to bring to it.
So , well I will write a mail again tommorow I hope to the members but I think I will just book a beergarden because my garden is too small. I would love to host it at my house!!! Its just that I come back 2 days before the 1st and it would be too much. So as it stands I think I will book the some tables at Hofbraukeller on the 1st!! I have to make this decision quick so please let me know if you have any objections.
PS, Canada is awesome, I can golf everyday for cheap!!!
Beer is ok though.

Jun 25 2008, 1:01 pm
My dad is in town from Canada that day, so it would be a perfect opportunity for him to see a beer garden and also have some cool people to talk to, aside from me. I can also bring some mini Canadian pins (you know the ones I'm talking about) and 2 normal-sized Canadian flags.
Actually . . . I'm going to the Beijing Olympics to support Canada, so if anybody has anything I could bring with me, bring 'em on July 1, and I'll be sure to take some photos and/or make good use of them.

beer garden sounds great. tuesday sounds great. I've got the tattoo... do I need the flags too? because I sorta forgot them when I moved over...

I missed last years Canada Day meetup you organized; I'd like to manage this years. I would also prefer the evening of the 1st.

Seeing as Brennz, the usual Canadian Club organiser, has said above that he's busy travelling at the moment, and seeing as this discussion has been ongoing for more than four weeks and Canada Day is now less than two days away, I thought it best to finally make an executive decision and set the date and venue. I hope that's OK. I won't be there, but hopefully now the date and venue are set you can sort the rest out yourselves (such as table reservation or whatever).
So, as suggested above:
7pm Tuesday 1.Jul.2008 @ HofbräukellerPost here if you plan to attend, so others know how many and who to expect.

Canada day was a blast. I had a lot of fun!
I am thinking
the big easy for the next meetup. The food there is just so great. Also we have to have another beergarden meetup like last time at michealibad where we tossed the football around and such.
