On the 30th July at Stusta Rugby Ground will be the German Rugby League 9s with teams coming from the Netherlands, France, England plus 5 teams from all over Germany (Munich, Cologne, Karlsruhe, Ingolstadt) as well as hopefully depending on visas etc a team from Serbia.Stusta Rugby club play both Rugby Union in the Winter and in the summer Rugby League and will play in Rotterdam in August in a 9s comp there.Stusta Rugby club train all year round and have players from England, Wales, Zimbabwe, Spain, Georgia, France, Bulgaria, Israel...and Germany. The website gives more details of who to contact etc. www.stusta-rugby.de
Schotte
Is there going to be a TT team then?!
Dally M
Stusta-München 2nds are on the look out for a coach to help players who are new to the game.Training is Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1830 at Stusta.Anybody who is interested in helping out one of Bavarias top clubs can contact Christian at profi33@gmx.de or Joachim at Joachimfeder@yahoo.de.The players understand and speak English as well as German so dont worry too much if your German may not be too good
Dally M
On the 23rd July in Heidelberg will Heidelberger Sharks face München StuSta.This is likely the first ever League game in Southern Germany (Rugby League is now allowed to be played in the Armed forces since think around 1995 after previously being Banned!Even run a small comp in the bases in the North now).

League was also tried in Bocholt in around 1990 but never got going. With interest coming from Köln and a couple of other clubs a possible Domestic League is likely to be setup in 2006 in June.

With the Sharks, StuSta and Munich RFC entering the 9s comp in Studentenstadt on the 30th July as well as 99% certain teams from France, Holland, Scotland and England.Rugby League is looking to work with the DRV and the Bavarian Rugby Union to help improve the standard of Rugby in Germany as well as look to raise the profile.
Topsy
Well done, Dally M - that's good news smile.gif
When's the first match in Munich, so we can cheer the lads on?
Proper rugby in Munich, that would be good, wouldn't it? smile.gif
Dally M
30th July at Willi Graf Str, Studentenstadt will be the 9s comp.3 German sides could be 5 plus teams from holland, France, Scotland and England.
Am still looking to arrange a time for StuSta to play Munich RFC.With ASV Köln and possibly two ther clubs coming on board for 2006 Rugby League should have a Domestic comp up and running between June and August next year.
gideon
shall be down to lend my support if my calender allows me...
Dally M
So far the following Teams have confirmed to be present-.

Munich RFC
StuSta
Heidelberg Sharks
Nanterre-Paris
Rotterdam
Scotland U19s
Scotland Students
British Army.

There are still likely 4 more teams to join. With The Arc sponsoring StuSta Rugby League team for the next 3 years.StuSta will be selling their replica shirts on www.forty-twenty.co.uk who will also sell Heidelberg Sharks and German Rugby League Trikots in the Summer.
Dally M
Heidelberg RK are the latest to play Rugby League in Summer and will face the Heidelberg Sharks in the summer-date to be confirmed.this follows on from both StuSta and munich wanting to play league as well as ASV Köln.There is also interest from a couple of other Union clubs to play League in Summer. This could lead to a likely domestic comp setting up in 2006-less than 2 years since we attempted to set Rugby League up in Germany!
Dally M
We are starting Rugby League Training on Saturday 25th June at Willi Graf Str, Studentenstadt.Time 1600hrs.This is where StuSta Rugby Union play there games. Its 2 minutes walk from Studentenstadt U Bahn Station. Both StuSta and Munich RFC players will be involved and anybody who wants to know or learn more about Rugby League just turn up.Bring a water bottle, Boots or trainers.Cheap food at Tribühne afterward also (Around €3-€5) for a meal with usual drinks on top.

Even if you have no idea its OK.Brian Carney is regarded as one of the best Wingers in Rugby League and is an Irish International and now at Wigan RLFC.10 years ago he hadnt played Rugby League or Union only Gaelic Football.Just because you have no idea doesnt mean you arent welcome!Word of warning tho Rugby League is a tough sport to play and must have a little bit of fitness to play.

I will post the basic rules on another thread later this Weekend.AQnybody who has played Touch will find it similar as Touch is an Offspring of Rugby League that is not so physical!

Training through the Summer will be Mondays at 1900hrs and then Saturday at 1600hrs
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is a game for Munich StuSta against Heidelberg Sharks in heidelberg on the 23rd July. This will be the first Rugby League game between 2 German sides.

There is also the Munich 9s on the 30th July at Studentenstadt

Also a possible Munich StuSta v Munich RFC game.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
See you there at training:
Saturday 25th June 1600 (Same day same time Through summer) Monday 28th June 1900 (Same day same time Through summer)

======================================================
Also like to thank the Arc for sponsoring StuSta Rugby League with the Shirts as well as Kiksports, Forty-Twenty.Co.Uk, Jeff Reibel at North Queensland Cowboys, RLEF , TotalRL.com, Rugby League Deutschland and StuSta Rugby Club helping in other areas

Unfortunately we have had a couple of people pull out due to work Commitments and also a couple of students are panicing and have pulled out leaving us a couple short sadly. We need a couple of players/bodies to help us.Doesnt matter so much that you have no experience as the game is an exhibition game-with likely teams mixed to some extent and will be 4x 20 minutes. All players are insured to the extent of the loss of eye, limb, broken neck etc by the way.I should have a brand new kit in time to play in as well.

All you need is to be reasonably tough and have a bit of fitness. The rules are similar in most ways to touch except you must tackle and get back 10 metres. It will not cost you a penny to get to Heidelberg and we have enough experienced players to help you learn as you play so to speak.Plus i will buy a full crate of beer for the return journey for all who come-What more do you want!:-)

This will be the first ever Rugby League game between two German sides so you could be part of History! If need be can meet on friday Evening to do basic passing and tackling then watch a live game at The Arc on TV.
Owain Glyndwr
can you post the travel arrangements on this thread, please DallyM. I'd be interested to know when you are planning to leave Munich and when you get back and how you are travelling.

cheers.

I have got Profi at StuSta to book me a coach as he has a Telephone during the day-Not supposed to use my handy at work! plus he knows the people at Watzinger. We Kick off at 1400rs in Heidelberg. There is a bar with some food after for players.Cost is nothing for players.

Beg Tets
I'm playing. I've bought a flat cap and a couple of Whippets especially for the occasion.

C'mon guys, DallyM has put a lot of effort into this so all you closet rugby types here in Toytown make yourself known and come for a gallop.
gideon
i would play and have told daily m so, but i've other commitments this weekend. but i will teach you mr tets how to do northern vowels so that you wont sound right out off place like lad. good luck to yus all.
Beg Tets
Well Gids, if northern monkeys like yourself and DallyM can play League it can't be all that complicated can it? wink.gif
Schotte
its not too late you know.
gideon
i've played leauge about twice in my life mate was a union player. watched loads though!
Dally M
My father and his side come from Hamburg and Leipzig areas while my mother is a Southern Softie with a bit of French going back a few generations!hardly a classical Yorkshire man and would never ever play for England or Yorkshire but am proud of my German roots.

Big tets -I cant think of anything good about norfolk( or England tongue.gif ) but there must be something! Could be the nearest Airport! biggrin.gif

Anyway Thanks for the people who have supported me and the others. Some supposed friends have left me in the crap so to speak but we will still have fun and hopefully the guys that are coming will want to play again.I am going to give Aussie Rules a try and hope others whether they know what Rugby league is give it a try.We will continue training just on monday Evenings at Studentenstadt at 1900Hrs.Sometimes theres a couple of us sometimes a a dozen or so.

Anybody still up to coming to Heidelberg tomoz we meet at 0815 at Studentenstadt bus Area.Wont cost you a cent neither!Bring some boots or at worst trainers and some shorts. We have had to borrow StuSta Rugby tops as our kit has been delayed at customs! mad.gif
Dally M
We actually got the first ever Rugby League game between two German teams going.Sadly some people let us down by not turning up.We didnt play 13 a side-we did 9 a side with 20 minute quarters.Big thanks to Schotte, Big Tets-hope your back gets better soon amongst others who helped.Heidelberg Sharks took the game 72-64.On a wide pitch with each side having 9 plus a couple of subs and some tiredness late on made for a high score.

Heidelberg Sharks really lookd after us and we had a great time with free beer and a BBQ and a dip in their private pool after! The Munich 9s will be played on Saturday 30th July and then on Sunday we have a German Development team playing the Scottish Students at Studentenstadt at 1400hrs
Schotte
Thanks a million for organising it DallyM. Despite the initial let downs I think everyone had a fantastic day and the first german game was a success. The Heidelberg lot are a good set of lads too with a great setup.

Also nice to meet Beg Tets and hope your back gets better too!

I'd say to anyone thinking of getting involved to go for it and get yourselves down to the upcoming RL events.
Beg Tets
Aye, was a great day out and the Heidelberg lads are a great bunch of boys. Looks like I'll be out of action for a while but I'll be along to watch and have a few cheeky beers on saturday.
Dally M
Is that a Northern "Aye" BT?
How many were born in Northern England or Australia played on Saturday?1!

The rest were originally from South Africa, New Zealand, Germany, America, Ireland, Scotland, Norfolk and Wales! And only 1 had ever played League before! Not bad for a Northern English Sport! tongue.gif

By the Way Georgia beat Serbia 44 08 in Tblisi at the weekend in a game shown live on Georgian national TV!With a crowd I believe near 900!This was only the second International Rugby League game in Georgia. With the Lebanese and the American domestic comp (AMNRL) going great guns as well as the Georgians hopefully Rugby League can grow Internationally in the next 10 years!
Dally M
The StuSta Rugby Club will be holding a Rugby League Weekend this coming Weekend-29/30/31 July.

Friday 29 July
The Arc-Sponsors of Stusta Rugby League- will host a Rugby league 9s party at 2000hrs.All TT members and others are welcome to join us at The Arc.We wont be getting too drunk as we have a full weekend of games!
Saturday 30 July

A 9s comp featuring around half a dozen teams including teams from Scotland, Heidelberg and a British Army team will kick off around 10amThis will be the first ever 9s comp in Germany. The exact number of teams is still unknown as both munich RFC and Bad Reichenhall are looking to get a team of some sort there but will confirm Friday before 12 (Noon). This is the first time we have organized the event so maybe a few problems will occur but main thing is people play/watch and have a good time. The Tribühne student cafe is open all day at Studentenstadt serving food and drink.

Sunday 31 July

A German Rugby League Development team will play its first ever game against the Scottish Students. The game will kick Off at 1400hrs.The German Development team is not a national team but a step in that direction.

It will feaure mainly Germans with the odd Brit,Zimbabwean, Kiwi etc to help them on the park.We had hoped to have a german Shirt ready but the manufacturers have had a delay which means it wont get here til early next week-still in time for us to play in it when we are in Rotterdam next Sunday to play Holland Development team.
Dally M
REWE (Brit Army Royal Engineers) beat the Scottish Students in the final 30-14 in a tough bruising game where some large hits were the order of the day. With both sides still being well disciplined.A German Select/StuSta team featuring German Players from Heidelberg, StuSta and a player from Bad Reichenhall-Leo Berngruber-who took away the Man of the 9s Comp award. With a number of Germans playing for the first Time who loved it and now want more!

We move onto tomorrow with both Germany Development and Scotland picking up a couple of injurys!the game kicks off at Studentenstadt at 1400hrs.Scotland will be expected to win but the Germans might not be the pushover most are expecting as with Berngruber-who played league in England with Birmingham Bulldogs at a high amateur level as well as having a couple of decent players of German Descent and a couple of English guys who played Rugby League in England determined to make the Scots work hard for a win!

I had forgotten how tough League is and believe an early night is in order but believe my body will ache for 3 or 4 days going on past experience! The Scots will be playing their national anthem with a bagpiper to add to the occasion tomorrow!

Studentenstadt Rugby Ground
Willi Graf Str
Kick Off 1400hrs
Dally M
In the first full 13 a side game of Rugby league in Bavaria, a German Development team battled hard against a good Scottish U19 side.having lost a couple of players due to them picking up knocks in the 9s Event the day before we had to bring in a couple of Army guys and European Rugby League Development officer Kevin Rudd to get the full 13 and Subs.

We still had many Germans in like Christian Leitner, Daniel Folgmann, Ludwig Blümel, Til Stock, Leo Berngruber Yalcin Ferat-Sampan as well as foreigners like Carlos Martini, Lee Grime, Nick McPhail who now live in Germany. Before a crowd of around 25 the German Development team often matched the Scots but lacked the knowhow in breaking a good solid Scottish Defence and then often let the Scot in with lack of Concentration or just a bit of inexperience. The score finished 28-13 to the Scots

Many positives for Rugby League from the weekend tho as bad Reichenhall and possibly a couple of Austrian sides will look to play Rugby League next year in the summer.

Holland A 34 Germany Development 28

On a showery sunday afternoon in Rottderdam Holland A just managed to scrape home against a german Dvelopment who had all of there players except 2 able to play for Germany at international level. With experience from Simon Cooper (German father) and Hemel Hempstead Stags Danny Stocks (German Grandmother) etc helping the Young trio of keinhorst Brothers Nick (17 Years old) and his two older brothers Marcus and Kristian. Also Munich Student Olli Kempkens further enjoying playing league.

The Dutch had also put a mixture of youngsters and old heads in Martijn Jonkers (Brother of former St.Helens and Now Salford Reds Tim Jonkers), Yorik Moree (Essex Eels), etc to help the youngsters. The Dutch took the lead but showing great pace Nick Keinhorst got the Germans back on level terms. The game ebbed and flowed and at half timethe Dutch were in front by 2.

The Second half much matched the first with the Dutch taking a further lead before Germany Development pulled back.with Danny Stocks and Nicholas Keinhorst grabbing 2 tries each and Kristian one. With 4 kicks from 5 not enough to win the game.Thats it for 2005 for Rugby League in Germany but we will set up again in late may 2006 when we hope to have a 9s circuit set up with StuSta, Bad Reichenhall and now Innsruck wanting to be involved. There is also interest from other towns in Bavaria and Austria so will keep you informed

Uwe On Hols still so got none yet!Got a new Shirt for StuSta RL as well.
More tea, Vicar?
Good on yer for the effort. Won't it be something if ANY form of rugby takes off properly in Germany.
Dally M
Mate i think Rugby-league, Union or touch has the potential to be big in Germany but problem is often red tape, The politics (Union) and infighting (Union).Rugby League has excellent relationships with both the Bavarian RU and Touch Rugby and would look to help them out if asked.Sadly no form of Rugby is officially recognized in Bavaria-means its very hard to get into state schools!Rugby League has been fighting for over 6 months now to get official recognition in Germany. Its very hard to get sponsorship for rugby in Bavaria compared to say Heidelberg. An official of the Bavarian Rugby Union has told me they received not one cent from the German Rugby Union in 5 years despite the German Rugby Union receiving over €100.000 a year from the IRB to promote Rugby in Germany-not just Heidelberg!Hopefully league, Union and Touch can work together to make all three codes more popular in Bavaria as well as Germany
Dally M
The German Rugby League Shirt is now on sale via www.forty-twenty.co.uk who are the main suppliers of Rugby League gear in via their Internet Store. The shirt is available on a Pre Order basis costing €65 including postage and Package.

There is a Shirt on display at The Arc Pub or on the www.rugby-league.de site is a few photos of the shirt as the www.forty-twenty.co.uk site has for now just a computer design.Rugby League Deutschland will receive a percentage from all sales of the shirt to further expand the Sport in Germany

We definately have 4 clubs on board for next year but hope to get even more teams involved in Rugby League here in summer 2006.Rugby League Deutschland will also work closely with Touch Rugby and will share contacts, use to some extent coaching techniques as well as look to share costs on things in some cases.

www.forty-twenty.co.uk

www.forty-twenty.co.uk also sell amongst other things NRL shirts plus international shirts of USA, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Estonia, Ireland, Wales, England, France, Serbia, Georgia, Lebanon, West Indies and Papua New Guinea.

Clockface (St.Helens) who play in the North West Counties league in England will play a Bavaria XIII on May 26th 2007 likely in Bad Reichenhall. The referee will be an Australian who is a Touch Judge at some Super league games!

Bad Reichenhall defeated München RLFC last week 32-28 in a 10 a side game to be the first ever Champions of Bavaria.

Heidelberg Sharks U 13s are likely to Tour the UK in 2007 (around early June time). We have managed to find a sponsor-Australian Bank called Macquarie Bank who also have offices in Europe. The team will have new Shirts and Steeden Rugby Balls. Currently 7 Schools in Baden Würtenberg have Rugby League as part of its Sports Programme.

Zac Freudenstein (Germany) and Christopher Kaltenböck (Austria) represented their Country in a European Select 9s team that played in the London 9s this weekend.Players from Malta, Italy, Estonia, Czech Republic, Lebanon, Morocco, France and Greece made up the team.

Main Semi Final

Russia 4-10 Tatarstan (Kazan area of Russia)
London Amateurs 6-10 English Amateurs

Final

English Amateurs 20-8 Tatarstan

Plate Final

Holland 10-16 Wales Amateurs

Anthony Seibold who is a conditioner with Welsh Professional side Celtic Crusaders is also the new Director Of Rugby League for Rugby League Deutschland. Anthony has played in the NRL for Brisbane Broncos and Canberra Raiders as well as in the UK for Hull Kingston Rovers and London Broncos. His father and his family come from Vilseck, near Nürnberg. Still only 32 he has already played for Germany when making his debut against Estonia where he scored 3 Tries.

RLEF Develop Tri Nations
Match 3:Paternion Stadium, Carinthia, Austria

Austria 56-32 Estonia

Austria claimed its first victory on the international stage after a convincing ein over a spirited Estonian team. Paternion is an outstanding alpine resort in Austria, was a rather unusual venue to hold this first international Rugby Leagure fixture played on Austrian soil. This is actually the one and only full time rugby pitch of either Rugby League or Rugby Union in Austria! Mayor Herr Eder of Paternion was obviously delighted to welcome both teams as well as the curious crowd of over 200 for the occasion.

The Estonians who travelled 36 hours through 7 European Countries gave everything but the Austrians got off to the better start via powerful runs by Andreas Raunigger and Christoph Kaltenböck. Man of the match was local boy Mathias Genser who was consistantly causing problems with his devastating speed through the middle of the field where the Estonian Forwards were tiring. Genser ending up with a hatrick of tries! The Estonians kept coming back and were well served by Captain Petrik Mottus and Prop Anton Sevastjanov. The Estonians scored a couple of late tries to keep the Austrians on their toes and the Estonian man of the Match Taavi Ermel was proving very hard to put down.

"We are very proud to have organized such a great event. Its been a wonderful day for the crowd and Rugby League in Austria. There is plenty to look forward to in the future" said delighted organizer of the event Volker Mannheim and Chairman of the Carinthian Rugby Club.

At the moment Austrian Rugby League is being run by Rugby League Deutschland but its hopede next year the Austrians themselves will run the Austrian Rugby League themselves
