Any such companies / agents in Munich?

Could anyone suggest a company or person here in Munich who could give me advice on applying for the right type of US visa as well as what the best options would be if I am going to the US for multiple purposes?

I'm a South African citizen and my first application was rejected, so I better do it right this time, otherwise there won't be a next time!

I've visited the US consulate site and MANY others, but I don't seem to get the clarity I need.

Please help, I don't have a clue going about this anymore. I don't wanna wait with this until I'm back in SA, cause it'll take even LONGER. blink.gif

hmmm.. do you have any job prospects or family in the US? It makes it easier if you have someone sponsoring you..

Do SAs have to have a visa when entering the US? Or can you be on a visitor's visa and extend it once you've found a job?

As far as I know, US visa can be applied only in person at the US consulate. Like with any other country, the type of visa depends on your purpose of visit. The best thing is to go straight to the US consulate in Munich.

If found the address for you

American Consulate Munich
Königinstrasse 5, Lehel
80539 Munich
Tel. 089 28880

thanks so much. i'll give it a go

i've been invited by about 5 families. i've got plenty of place to stay and plenty of contacts to organise a job for myself. but i'm in the inbetween stage. finished with studies( there goes the student J1 visa) and i'm not a specialist in a job either ( busy doing my practical at siemens)- that means that i won't get a working visa. i'm not aloud to go as a visitor and then attain a working visa there, i'll have to go back to SA for that. ohter option is to do summer camps -4 months visa with an extention of 30 days for travel. but i'm mostly interested in doing a easy- going internship job in Califonia specifically( can i apply for an intership if i finished studies last year?) - life saving or waitressing would even be nice.

i can work as a receptionist at a mortgage company or as a volunteer at a ministry place, but the fact is i won't get a work visa for ait, because it's a job type that anyone in the US can do. that's my problem!

studied Honors in IMC. integrated marketing communications ( media relations, public relations, ... that sort of stuff)

US is not Europe. You can't just go there and expect to change things around. In fact for visitors (especially after 9/11), even if you have a visa, if you dont give good enough reason for the purpose of your visit at the border they won't even let you in.

If all you have is invitations from your family, then all you qualify for is a visiting visa which as far as I know cannot be changed to work visa. If my memory serves me right, after 9/11 they made it a law not to allow conversion of visitor visa to work visa. All other work related visas must be obtained before entering the US which means you should already have a job and a sponsor before going to the US consulate for visa. Other than that you could go there as a student and most students are allowed to work during and after the studies subject to certain limitations and regulations.

There are no short cuts and easy ways through US immigartion. Best of luck.
