Went out for dinner at 2 good places this past weekend. First was in La Villa in Luitpoldpark. La Villa webpage. They had a Rodizio, which is 6-course meal. You get six different types of meat (turkey wrapped in bacon, grilled chicken, roast pork, chorzio, roast lamb, roast beef) which is brought to your table one course at a time througout the evening. It comes on a big skewer which the waiter then cuts off as much or as little as you like. Along with this, there is a buffet with salads, nachos, salsa, guacamole, baked potatoes, cold roast beef and lots more. This is also followed by 2 dessert courses of grilled banana and then flambeed pineapple (flambeed at your table, quite exciting). For this all-you-can eat extravaganza it normally costs €19.50, but until the end of February it's only €14.50. The quality of the food is high, with nice things like ruccola and feldsalat in the salad bar and fresh guacamole. The service was friendly and attentive, even though the place was packed. The waiter laughed along with us as we tried to decided between having Sex on the Beach or a Latin Lover. Cocktails are 4.90 during happy hour, which is 6-8pm and again from 10:30 on. Make sure to make a reservation, because as I said, the place was packed. It's probaly also best to go with a group, as it's a long evening. We arrived at 7pm and left just before midnight. Good food, strong cocktails, good service. I ask no more from any restaurant.
The second place we went was the next night to an Ethopian restaurant in Schwabing. is the name, on Tengstr. 31. The food for everyone is traditionally served on one big platter with you using bits of Ethopian flat bread to grab what you want to eat. There were 5 of us and we weren't sure what to order, so we asked if the guy could bring us something including a vegetarian part. He did with no problems and it all tasted great. Eating with your hands is a fun thing to do occasionally. The place isn't big, but even so there was only one other table of 3 eating there during the course of the evening. Don't know if that's because it's a bit away from the main Schwabing scene or if Sunday is normally a quiet night. Dinner for 5 of us including a drink each came to around €64 all up. Cheap in my opinion, and definately worth trying again.
