Years ago, before Planet Hollywood even opened, let alone closed, there was an English Chippy somewhere in that part of town. No idea exactly where, I was just oot and aboot one afternoon, and found it.
Now I am craving soggy vinegar soaked chips, a bit of battered cod, and a pickeld egg - but I don't think that chippy is still about. I know Nordsee sell something trying to be fish and chips, but I don't want crispy chips, I want them dripping in fat and vinegar.
Anyone know of a chippy?

Molly Malones does a big plate of fish and chips for a half decent price. I have heard complaints that the fish was pounded thin to make the size, but the same people kept ordering it, time and again. Real chips too, with malt vinegar available.

Don,
The fish and chips at kilians managed to keep my Dad happy(!) but not quite as greasy as a chippy. But they do have vinegar! But lacking in the egg department. Sorry
Nordsee - forget it!
Chippy in the Planet Hollywood area of town. I've never seen one!

Years ago. Closed before I had a chance to check it out. The Galway Hooker was there after, which quickly turned into an Indian restaurant, which then proceeded to burn down in mysterious circumstances.

Cheers peeps.
I know a couple of pubs do fish n chips, but its really the experience rather than the actual food I want. Wrapped in paper, vinegar leaking through so your hands reek. Mmmmmm.
And may I add, chips with curry sauce - quite pleasant; chips with gravy - should be illegal.

If you are gonna do a DIY job, then skip any batter mixes, you can make your own just as easily (its only whisking, packet mix or not), and drink beer at the same time!
Simple proportions too.
225g flour
1/2 pint of cold lager (helles)
salt
Sift flour and salt into a bowl, whisk in the beer. You are going for double cream consitency, use less beer at first, adding until you get it right. Batter is best left to stand for a few hours in the fridge and re-whisked before being used.
You should have a half bottle of beer left to glug down at this point. Well nice. Have not tried using weissbier, but I reckon the yeast would help actually. Must try it.
Rub a little cornflour onto the fish before dipping into the batter (helps the batter stick tothe flesh) and deep fry until a nice fish n chip shop golden brown!
To be 100% authentic, leave the cooked fish under a heat lamp for an hour or two so that the batter goes soggy and limp. Also, do not use real vinegar on your chips - most chippies use some vinegar FLAVOUR shit that is not real vinegar.

If I remember correctly you can get malt vinegar (I think it's "Sarsons") via the little shop kiosk at "Kilian's".
