Would have to speak German with a German accent. Otherwise they would know this is a scam !
Although I have also thought about this !

NO you speak very bad german with another accent, say your albanian or something. i once did the scientology test and they said i needed some form of religion to guide me, i then told then i was a devote jew, they didnt seem to happy about that.

I thought the signs on the u-bahn said "Test your English free" which kind of amused me as it sounds incorrect.
Anyway, you can take the test
online yourself. If you don't get 20 out of 20 you should be shot. Actually, Bob should incorporate the test into the sign-up procedure on this site.

I did an English test at an employment agency a couple of years ago and was told that I was the only person to have gotten 100% which I can believe after seeing the level of English from some so-called mother tongue speakers on this forum. And that's not including the age-old dispute between British and American English speakers.

@keydeck
I agree with the sign up procedure idea.
Although I really do not mind helping someone out if their English is poor.
It is when someone (and this happens a hell of a lot on TT) has native English speaker in their profile and they are clearly not. That really pisses me off

But I'm only doing it if it is anonymous.

Because while I may have got 20/20 on the test linked above, I would surely fail a "proper" test.

Not me: I don't think I have anything online. I'll have to type it in, so it'll probably have to wait a day or two. I'll take a look online, but I have to head off to work right now, so send me a reminder PM if you are that interested.

The way I look at it is if someone is willing to converse with me in a language that is not their native tongue then I am grateful.
I promise you this, your result is far better than a lot of the kids from my home town would have got.

Sadly I am not joking

My fibreglass rod snapped in two and now there's a cotton swap stuck firmly up my shaft. The cull shall have to be postponed.

Actually a cotton swap is different to a cotton swab. Whereas the swab is generally a fairly shapeless piece of cotton, the swap has a cylindrical form and the material is much more densely packed than in a swab.

Woohoo 20/20
Though I reckon this question is wrong (or else my English is wrong, equaly likely)
"The worst holiday ... was when we went camping."
A) I ever made

I've ever been to
C) I've ever had
D) I had ever "
I answered C, but I actually would have said "I ever had" if that choice had been offered.
What would anyone else have answered?

Okay, I found some stuff for you all to test your English on, but the file size is too big for me to upload it here, so I've had to do a bit of cutting and pasting.
Both of the following exercises are part of an business-based English exam. These are 2 from 6 parts of the reading part of the exam. In total, the students have 60 minutes to do the reading part, but these two are fairly short, so it should take 10 minutes tops to do both sections. 15 if you are non-native speaker. Test and instructions begins here:
==============
Read the article below about pricing policies.
Choose the correct word to fill each gap from A, B, C or D from the following list.
For each question (21-30), mark one letter ( A, B, C or D) on your answer sheet.
There is an example at the beginning (0)

Example 0:
A available B convenient C appointed D obtainable
answer A

I got 19/20. I wondered if one of a couple of the questions could have been the problem, but going back and changing the answers I found these were correct.
Oh well, 19/20 isn't bad, especially as I find my English becomming (e.g not becoming - I seem to manage to write double-m now as in "kommen" :-)) more Germanised
"I need to practice my English UNTIL next Monday, so I can try the test again!"

I have this suspicion that, it being an American English test, tends to catch out British English speaker wrt usage of the past and past participle...just guessing. Not trying to make any excuses for myself!
As for Showem's test: in the second section, it says "reliable qualified". Should it not be "reliabLY qualified"?

no but a comma between them may be good I guess

Aug 26 2005, 1:12 pm
Ulysses, this is actually a test from Cambridge University, so if it has any bias, it's towards British English.
Comma optional at point mentioned. No need for LY.
20/20 on the wallstreetinstitue, but I think the one about "Sorry you didn't find me at home..." could be different depending if it was the answering machine versus telling someone about it later.
If you want more fun with commas, grammar and the english language in general you should read "Eats, Shoots & Leaves". Laugh out loud funny and it's a short read.
PM me if you want to read my copy. Funny stuff for Americans, Brits (and others) about examples of how the language is butchered every day.
