For those of you who can't wait for the Wies'n to get your fest on, a great warmup event is the Herbstfest in Erding. It begins this Friday August 26th and ends September 4th. It may be a little out of the way for some of you die hard Muencheners but it's a lot of fun. A Helles Mass costs 5,10 and a Mass of the world famous Erdinger Weissbier costs 5,35. In addition to 2 beer tents, there are rides for the kids and some arts and crafts as well.

In order to reach the fest, Take the S bahn line S2 to Erding. From there the Festplatz is only a few minutes walk. There is also a shuttle bus that will take you to the festplatz. More info found here: www.erding.de

So whip out the Lederhosen and Dirndls and check it out. PROST!

World famous? It surely must be one of the worst weiss beers ever,

Is there somewhere a calendar showing all these "Oktoberfest-like" events in the Munich area? (events with loud beer tents, music, etc etc). Often I get visitors outside of the "Oktoberfest" period, and it would be nice to know where to go, to give them a flavour of the "big one". For example, the Frühlingsfest (Munich, April) was a good one, I had friends coming over from norway, and guess what, after one night at the Frühlingsfest they are planning to come back to see the real one.

Well there's the Fruhlingsfest like you said. There is also the Starkbierfest, and the Little Oktoberfest and of course the Erding Herbstfest :-) Don't have the exact dates on all of them though.
