10k & 5.8k through the Englischer Garten

Ken, I know you have been anxious to do this again, so here it is!!!

Pretty much the same deal as last year (many of us did it & and had a good time):

There's a 10K run on Sept 11 at 2:30pm in the Englischer Garten that will benefit the local fight against AIDS. This year there is also a 5.8K as well at 2:50pm. The minimum donation is 15 euros and you get a t-shirt, which is in line with most other 10Ks. You can register beforehand at several locations (see website), but last year many people registered on-site just beforehand & that worked out well.

Info here: Run for Life, in German. PM me if you need help b/c I'll be doing this with our company team. It says walkers are welcome so don't worry if you haven't trained.

Nice to do something for a good cause & get a little exercise at the same time before Oktoberfest!

My legs say no...but my head says YES!!

I did this last year with no training whatsoever. This is something I want to remedy this year.
sunny_me
I'll join you. That's a defo! we can't let each other down 3Lions, can we?!!
3 Lions
Cool!! I couldnt have finished last year if Sunny me hadnt been there.
canuck
I'm in again. That was a good run last year.
Katrina
You lot doing the 10K or the 5.8K? I already know canuck's answer wink.gif
Blimeygirl
If there are any walkers who want to do the 5.8k I am up for that. Can't run for my own life never mind for a charity. But I can walk pretty well ('cept for that small matter about a broken ankle ph34r.gif)
3 Lions
If Sunny me is up for it, we'll be doing the 10K again. We had the right pace last time.
Katrina
Aye but 3 Lions, you're a wee bit taller than me! My step frequency to keep up with you would be a laff.
Went for a run last night, can now do 40mins straight through but at a very moderate pace (i.e. everyone else belting past along the Nymphenburg canal) so dunno how this compares.
3 Lions
I think Sunny me is smaller, or at least the same size as you. We brought up the rear of the group and only overtook a couple of people on the last kilometer.

40mins for a 10k is definately possible. Go on, you'll be fine wink.gif
pootle
Hey BlimeyGirl,

I may be up for a walk, but I'm not sure until nearer the time.

This was great fun last year... Won't be around for this one unfortunately, but have fun everyone!

@Katrina: It'll be a doddle for you, I'm sure! Go for it...
Katrina
The Queen of Pain (aka Brenda - who does the training at my Sportsverein) is back on Monday so I'll check with her but I do fancy doing this, especially as it won't be as scary as the Stadtlauf.
tench, 40mins for 10km for you is fine, think I did about 6km if that (my flat near Cafe Freiheit/Platz der Freiheit to Schloss Nymphenburg via the canal and back). Am doing by time only at the moment, I run 20mins then turn around and come back, tempo according to feel/daily form. Have no idea if this is a good training method or not.
Yeti
You should try the Rarpptray method ! You'll be running 10 K in 40 minutes in no time.
jml
I'd be up for the walk as well, but ditto to Poots also won't know until closer. Wouldn't mind signing up for it now though.

/wondering if am secretly pootle in disguise, would explain the new hairdo really.
Yeti
I'll be up for running this, just to see JML and Poots together in one place.

New hairdo, scary.

Sounds perfectly fine to me. Pointless going further if you feel cr@p. There's also nothing wrong with walk breaks if you need them.

Upto 10k you should be fine but for anything further, be careful to increase the distance slowly.. I tried to do too much too soon last year and shagged my knees. not nice.

good luck smile.gif
jml
@yeti..i let toast give me a makeover. lets say it involves a new haircut and strategically placed tube socks. hated it at first, but I'm starting to think its the real me.
Yeti
God it is you, granted the new soft focus you, but you never the less.

Swoon.

Anyway I know how I want to look when I'm 55, here.
Katrina
Thanks tench!
jml, that's just dandy, hope you got ya Stay-Fro xx
Paddie
Running the Cologne marathon that day/ weekend, so cannot make it, unfortunately. however, I was gonna ask / post here anyway: is there any TT / ex-pats running group that meets up on occasion? if not, is this something people would be interested in? Not talking about the hardcore running (I will be an old man after the marathon anyway), but sort of a fun running group going on occasional runs.

Cheers
Patrick
Tim Hortons Man
Rob and I would be interested in meeting with some of you and running...

That is if you don't leave us in the dust...we are just beginners...not up to marathon or half marathon level yet.

Just talking 5 - 10 km

Would that be ok?

- Chris
Paddie
Absolutely. Like I said, after the marathon, I am essentially starting over again, and slow and easy short runs are all one can usually do. Let's see who else is up for it and set something up. Where do you guys usually run? (what part of town?)
Tim Hortons Man
Actually we are open to anything.

We live outside of Munich, but would gladly come in to run with someone...(live in Erding)

We do about 5 k now, slowly but are working up to do 10 (sllllow) - Using my heart rate monitor to get to around 140 - 150 and stay within this range.

My hubbies heart rate is lower by about 10 (crap!)

I have asthma so we have to take the first KM slow and then my lungs warm up and its ok...

So give us a suggestion and time and place we can meet and lets do it.

@LISA we are planning on signing up for 5.8 KM.

- Chris
Pascoe
I am doing the 10km as well.

Canuck,

Will you be running quicker than in the stadtlauf??? smile.gif
canuck
I'll run at the same pace as I did for the first 17k of the Stadtlauf (i.e. your pace)...hopefully. I haven't really went for a 'real' run for awhile. My legs are still sore from softball on Sunday and my knee is a bit messed from the Transalp. Man, I'm getting old! smile.gif
Tim Hortons Lady
Hello!

Unfortunately, will not be able to make the run on Sunday (posted Rob half of Robandchris)...

Do you know of any runs coming up in the future?

Thanks!

- Chris
Yeti
Landsberg am Lech Stadtlauf

This is a good site to find local runs.

Landsberg is on next Sunday and it's in my area so I might go.
Tim
Anyone else make it out? It was a very nice run, but a bit too much of a Wurstfest - lots of men in tight shorts biggrin.gif

Either way, perfect weather, a great track, enough people to make it into an event AND, I ran 52 minutes with a hangover cool.gif
Shaggle
I'll ditto the wurst-fest, and I think most of the crowd was fine with that (not that there's anything wrong with that, disclaimer, disclaimer) - then again it was an AIDS benefit... I'm just worried the freebie condom is for butt sex, why does it say 'extra special' and why did it come with a pack of lube?! Ugh. unsure.gif
Lisa E
Yep, Pascoe & I made it out, sorry we didn't see you (and Lori, did you find anyone?). Weather was very nice! It's a good run, marked better than the stadtlauf too.
Hippo
I went along, enjoyed a nice little run. It's always interesting running against/with other people, rather than the usual Sunday jog by myself.

For those interested in raising money for the Nelson Mandela Foundation 46664, it's now possible to pre-order wristbands, which will be delivered on 26th October. More info here. The t-shirts are nice too, good quality material : http://shop.sandbag.uk.com/46664/Store/Dis...ms.html?CatID=2
