Munich S-Bahn History and U-Bahn Trivia

What happened to the S3?

On the way to work I didn't have my magazine with me, so I kept staring at the undergroud network for no reason...I noticed though, that the S-bahns go from 1 to 8 (20 and 27 during traffic hours though), but there is no S3!! Whatever happened with this one? Has there never been a S3? Is the S3 not running anymore?

I know, it's a complete useless topic, but I was just wondering... tongue.gif
MysteryMan
The S8 replace the S3 when it became the airport line.
Katrina
The lines S3 and S8 were combined in 2000 as the S3 used to run from Nannhofen to Ismaning before the Ismaning - Airport part was opened (S8 was Pasing to Airport via Hbf).
Katrina
PS I had to look that up.
MysteryMan
Since one is being anal:

1973: S3 Ostbahnhof - Ismaning opened later extended to Nannhofen - Ismaning
1992: S8 replaces the S3 on the stretch between Ostabahnhof and Airport
2000: S8 and S3 merge to become the S8 Nannhofen - Airport

PS I had to look that up.

@Katrina and MysteryMan

Thanx for the explanation, I probably could have looked it up myself, but there must have been anyone who knows about it...

Maybe you should consider buying this book. tongue.gif

Want a small game to pass the time on your way to or from work?

Try and find the 3 stations that contain all 5 vowels (a,e,i,o,u) in the name of the stop. Not necessarily in one word but within the official name of the stop. Yes, you can change the umlaut to an "e" if you wish.

Don't post your answers here, let everyone stare upwards at the map for a ride or two. No, I'm not a train-stop spotter, but it did make for a shorter ride one morning when someone challenged me on it.

You should say that Hoehenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn is long enough to have all vowels in it, but no, there is an A missing...

And is it only the S-bahn stations or also the U-bahns?
Showem
U-Bahns and S-Bahns are both fair game.
sparty
Got two already just thinking about it...but won't tell 'em yet...
sparty
@showem

I found 4 of 'em!! (and even a fifth, but that one isn't built yet...)
