Hi everyone,

I was just reading the bio of Freddie Mercury and it mentioned that he lived in Munich near Marienplatz for a few years. Does anyone know where his apartment used to be?

Don't worry I'm not about to go and hassle the current occupants, I was just curious.

Thanks for any hints.

I THINK that his best girlfriend (a Bavarian actress whose name escapes me for the moment) inherited his flat when he died and lived in it until she died of drink a couple of years ago.

The flat is qùel surprise, in Glockenbachviertel, corner of the next street to mine.

Umm... You don't need an accent there...

And it's "Quelle surprise", thank you very much...

Here's a quote from an old interview (dated May 29, 1986) with Limahl:
QUOTE
The recordings were made in Munich, by the way, in Musicland Studio, where Queen also works. I even lived in Freddie Mercury's flat for a period of three months, just by Marienplatz. I cannot give you the address because then the fans would go crazy...

The complete(ly irrelevant) interview can be found here.

His Iranian friend was Miss Bavaria, wasn't she?

I think his name was Farrokh Bulsara originally, and he often ate at the only gay-owned restauarant near the Viktualenmarkt.

But aye the most famous was Sedlmayers.

He filled his boots in a lot of local places.

Think he shared the apartment with Barbara Valentin.
HartlepoolLad
@tnook is right. He was a very close friend of the German actress Barbera Valentin. Her flat was in the Hans Sachs Strasse in Munich (in the gay area). (I know because when I first came to Munich, I had a short relationship with a guy who was staying with her in her flat and invited me back smile.gif

Apparently he helped plan the design of the flat but never actually got to see more than photographs before he died. Although I have heard that he was often on the gay scene in Munich - places such as STUD club...

Was kinda weird seeing all the photos signed by him to Barbera Valentin! :}

Back in the day when I was a chicken wink.gif the building where Stud is now was actually housed New York. But yes, Freddy went there and various other similar ocal bars in the area. wink.gif

I forgot the name Barabara Valentin's name rolleyes.gif but yes, that was her. She was formerly a really famous "sex-goddess" actor but she lost a lot of the plot after Freddy died. You'd often see her around GBV, usually half cut on Asbach.

Official story was that she wasn't feeling well in Nil in the Hans Sachs Strasse and went home and died. Word on the street is that she had a stroke etc during a massive drinking binge in a less saloubrious location.

Barbara Valentin stayed with Freddie until he died. He was often hanging out in Munichs gay scene. In the beginnigs Barbara and he shared a flat in Hans-Sachs-Straße. They both loved to hang out in "Nil". Later on he had his own flat. Babara Valentin died in 2002 because of brain bleeding. She was only 61.

I cycle down Hans Sachstr regularly- I will remember this next time I do and it will put a big smile on my face smile.gif

They actually bought the flat together but he only got to see the flat on photos before he died... this came from someone who lived in the apartment with Barbara before she died...

Are you people implying that Freddie Mercury was gay?

The place where he lived in Munich is called Stollberg Plaza on Stollbergstr number 2-4.
My wife was living in the building (Hotel - Apartments) at the same time as Freddie Mercury in 1985.
