Yes you are right. I am posh. Our council house had hot and cold running water and an inside bog. And my dad used to work extra hours down the pit (until he was made redundant) to fund my elocution, violin and modern arts classes in the local miners welfare. It was here that me and my friends because interested in operatic's and the performing arts. A career that I felt certain would lead me to a life of elegant dinner parties and social events with then local gentry.
But then I thought fuck it!! I will join the army and get pissed for the next 8 years!!!

QUOTE (Owain Glyndwr @ Aug 12 2005, 9:00 am)
actually, real ale is quality stuff. I miss it too. German beer, although very good, tends to be rather homogenous. And to be honest I was never really a lager fan, so for me Pils and Helles etc are just better versions of things of a second choice beer. I enjoy Münchener Dunkeles but not Weissbier.
But there is nothing like a good pint of real ale drawn from a cask. It is not everyone's choice but it certainly is mine.
I'd agree with this whole heartily, it took me quite a while to get used to German beer, but luckily I managed to get used to it. If I'm ever in England, which isn't often I always try to drink in pubs with real ale.

Asian restaurants which are mostly above average compared to Munich!!! Indian, Chinese, Vietnamese etc yummy!!
Those chatterbox english teenage gals serving as cashiers within souvenirs shops who were interested in their conversation than serving you. They don't even bother to look at you too besides without even Hello and thanks!
Yes YES YES my favourite body shampoo brand Original source!!! it's better than alot of chemical blend of cheap body shampoo here in munich! But saldy it seems that in London, they are'nt so popular compared to south east asia.

They don't seem to have decent pickles and chutneys here - so I brought back 60 kilos worth last week from the UK! Along with enough PG tips for an army, and some bacon, sausages etc.
Knocked up Sunday breakfast for some friends at the weekend:
British Back bacon
Pork sausages
Grilled tomatoes
Scrambled Egg
Toast and Marmalade
Pots of Tea
I am a crummy cook but managed a fair hash at the above. But being in the sticks it is a 25 minute drive to Augsburg for the Sunday Times :-(

Nice and spicy nik-naks
Decent curry
Vegetarian food and the understanding that fish is NOT a vegetable
The weather (this summer anyway)
Awareness of personal space (non-existent throughout most of the continent)
Chocolate hob-nobs
Humus and salad in pitta bread
Work colleagues with a sense of humour (apart from 1 or 2)
Agendas for meetings
Robinsons orange squash
Still prefer it here to being in Blighty though
The Victorian House in the the Frauenstrasse serves crumpets with lemon curd (unfortunately without butter, so you have to ask for it). I suppose they might have

No that's your mistake.
You call it peperoni sausage, in Germany that's salami.
Peperoni (as in Italy) are the chilies, not the sausage.
Ask for peperoni in Germany you'll get peperoni, just look at the jars of them in any supermarket.
Ask for Peperoni-Wurst, you might get peperoni sausage if they have it.

crumpets
salted butter
Marmitecheddar cheese
Branston pickle
Ribena
and the take-away brochure for my fab local Indian which does free delivery
Oh, and another bonus (apart from british humour) which I had forgotten about or maybe just not appreciated before... not only manners, but openness, friendliness. Everyone I meet calls me "mate" or "love", it's fab!

but then let's get our feet back on the ground... 2 people I know in my area (and I only know about 8!) have been mugged recently, one at knife point. Certainly a different level of security in London, never mind the terrorists...

New Dehli does free deliverý here as well. And the food isn't that bad.
English Cheddar cheese is available in Hit and at the Deli on Herkommerplatz, both very near me. Branston pickle is difficult to get hold of, so i stockpile it.
there is plenty of crumpet in Munich as well.
