I had an interview at a good company in Nuremberg. When they asked for my expected salary, I gave them a range of 35k - 45k Euros. They said I fit into the position (software engineer for mobile communications systems) well and recommended me to the HR department. I was told that the contract terms, including salary, will be negotiated by me and the HR. The HR then sent me an application form which asks for an expected salary again.
It's about the salary bargaining with the HR now. What number should I put in that application form? If it is too high (within that range) for their expectation, will they reject and terminate the contract right away or will they negotiate?
My qualification: Master of Science, 2-year experience (internships, working student).

Let them name the number. The company will have a hi-lo range and will be aiming to get you on board at the bottom of that scale.
Once they have named the number, never accept their first offer because they will go higher if you push. You can also try to add in additional perks such as healthcare, a company car / car allowance, etc.
If they ask you how much you want, tell them it's simply an unfair question since they will have a scale, etc - and if they push you, name a number at the top end of your scale. Don't apologise or feel guilty about that number, feel good about it, you're worth it ... then you can negotiate with them towards a mid-point that makes you both feel good.
Last year when hiring someone, I went first and named the lowest number - to my shock they immediately accepted - and as I was running a profit-center I did not mention that I would have gone €3k higher.

With your qualification and amount of experience, I would aim for at least 40-45K p.a.
