Where to get repairs done

So, I dropped my camera and broke it in a drunken fit.

Where the hell can I get it fixed in Munich?

Edit: Some specifics, it's a Sony Cyber-Shot that I bought from Saturn.
Topsy
if you take it back to saturn they will send it off to be repaired, but it'll cost you quite a bit
RebellionLies
I heard the Sony Center was in the area (Though not in Munich itself)

How much exactly is quite a bit?
Keydeck
How long is a piece of string?

Depends totally on what's wrong with the unit.

I presume it's out of warranty. They probably have a fixed price of between €20 and €50 or thereabouts just to look at it and then whatever repairs are involved on top. Depending on the worth of the camera you're sometimes better off getting a new one instead of going for repairs.

Note: Camera shops will not fix the unit themselves. They just send it off to the manufacturer. At least I haven't found one that does and I've had quite a few camera-repair instances.

Here is link you might try. Just post the same question and someone will answer in about a day or so. Just go to forums, then all forums, then travel photography, then hit germany, and post your question. Everyone there is a phographer and will give you a solid lead. I have yet to be let down on the info given there. It is a great website with tons of other info if you need it. Just do not ever post a photograph if you do want a harsh critique ha-ha.

My Digicam is actually broken, thankfully under warranty but it's been 12 weeks since I sent it back and no news. Sucks really. It was sent to a company called Tritec Service. http://www.tritec-service.de.

Not sure if they fix Sonys as well but they fix a lot of manufacturers brands...

sorry, didn't see this before - a friend's camera recently broke (the viewing screen thingy), and it cost iirc 50 euros to get a quote and then something in the region of 400 euros to replace the screen
he'll know the exact amount, but he's in europe's vice capital as i type, so i wouldn't dream of disturbing him to ask him - he's back on monday and can confirm
i thought that was a bit steep to replace the screen, personally, but the camera itself cost more than double that, so they knew they could get away with it, i suppose
RebellionLies
It should still be under warranty as I only bought it two or three weeks ago, and it's only a fault with the battery compartment - ie it won't open at all as the locking mechanism has jammed. Also, when I zoom in too far, it cuts out.

Good job it's still got some battery life left.
boomtown_rat
I don't think the warranty covers you dropping it though
Topsy
no - my mate's camera was still under warranty, but they made him pay for the repair because they reckoned that the glass bit doesn't break of its own accord, and he must have done something to it.
Brock Landers
It's almost cheeper to buy a new one than have it repaired. Depending on how old it is, a similar new model with the same features could cost about the same as fixing the old one!
RebellionLies
Yeah, it's about four weeks old at the most.

Waiting for my next paycheck to get it fixed/a new one.

Ive posted before about my canon camera problem but i reckon there will be much more chance of getting a camera repair shop in Munich than at home.

Any suggestions appreciated, cheers folks.

Disgusting Surprise
Hey all,

To get to the point, i went and fell on my face although luckily my digital camera took most of the force of the fall smile.gif The camera is continuing to work fine , taking pictures etc. The damage though was that the LCD Monitor cracked and wont display pics anymore. The LCD screen is one of those types that retracts out so replacing it is possible. I just haven't got the slightest idea were I can go to get it fixed. Anyone have any ideas?

the camera in question is this one here

Here's a good pic of the LCD Screen that broke

Thanks again for your help all!

The thing with LCD's is that they cost a fortune to replace when they break. Sometimes its cheaper just
to buy the item new again as it's cheaper than fixing. For your prob. I'd start looking around on ebay for
people selling broken cameras that are the same as yours. You might get lucky and find one that can be
parts'ed out and you can grab the LCD..

I have replaced the LCD in a number of Canon and Sony digicams. If you have a bit of mechanical skills its not too bad.
Canon LCD's are cheap and easy to find, Sony on the other hand are hard to find and usually really expensive!
Look in your manual or online for a service # and ask them if they sell just the parts. Take a look online too there are a numeber
of vendors that specialize in OEM parts. DK's idea is a good one, but is a bit more risky etc.
Either way good luck! : )

I spent 20 Euros and 4 weeks to know that it would take 168 Euros to repair my Fuji Finepix at Saturn. I got it on ebay for hardly a couple of Euros more two years back. So unless you are fascinated by any 'German Precision Repairing Syndrome'...go buy your self a new one !!!

@Mook

Saw another story on a tech board, where Sony charged a gut 62 Eur.. Yes 62 Eur.. For a screw!!!
A standard Philips head Screw for a car SPEAKER!!!

Here's the link: Sony really knows how to screw its customers

Yet another reason to avoid Sony products like the Plague...

Can anyone recommend an independent shop for camera repair in town? No big huge thing but I think at some point a bug or something must have flown in somewhere while I was changing lenses and now I get a black blob in the top right corner of all my photos. Tried to clean it myself but can't see it.
