Hi,
have someone gone through this -----------
I need to send my Notebook / laptop to Sony Head office for repair ( Karlstein ), because of a hardware failure...as its within warranty period, i do not need to pay for the repair cost, but for the Postage to the Sony Head Office...
What is the best way to send it...registered ?? DHL Packet ??? or what...

I'd recommend DHL or UPS, however registered mail might be cheaper.

Hmm, I think registered mail is for pieces of paper not for laptops. If you take it to the post office then it will automatically go by DHL. This is probably the best option. You should ask at the post office beforehand about insurance. I enquired about sending a laptop to the UK and they informed me that it would have to be versiegelt. As I didn't know the meaning of that word, I just nodded knowingly and thanked them for their help. What it actually means is 'sealed'. I don't really know what that involves in practice.

If you pack it carefully in the original box, (or similar) we can help, as we have a DHL contract and can get it picked up from either your address or ours.
If it helps, PM me. We send laptops regularly via this method.

Registerd/Insured and "Reciever must sign type option DON NOT only apply to "Paper Mail".. I'd pack it super good and send it via DHL or OOOPS (UPS) as alreay mentioned above...
If your looking for a cheaper try Hermes. Their price for sending up to 25kg it 5,90 and usually get there in 2-3 days. Problem is I think they have a 500 EUR price limit on the item being sent. If you NB is only worth 500 or less than go for it..

@AK. The price was about 25 euros but the insurance was only up to €750. I guess if it was secured then the price would stay the same but I didn't get that far in my enquiries. I don't need to post the thing after all.
@DK. I realise that you normally have to sign for a parcel when it arrives. I was responding to Hahnsen who said the laptop could be sent by DHL *or* by registered mail.

You can ship via Postpaket for 7 EUR, which automatically contains insurance up to 500 EUR. Add on another 3.50 to insure up to 2500 EUR. You can also add on extra fees for delivery only to adressee (12.00 EUR) and signature upon delivery (1.80 EUR).
