the Boy From Bozlem
Judging by the number of posts you've made I would say you have a lot of experience, just how everyone's first time should be

I have reservations about this movie...I love the series but what after was done with The Punisher series I am unsure. I want to see it but am afraid I will be too hard of a critic on the adaptation...oh crap sorry everyone for bringing negative karma to this thread.
MajorBummer
I also have reservations about it, but rather because I am a bit tired of Rodrigues and Tarantino. I expect more of the same. I don't like Bruce Willis either, but Benicio del Torro is, however, a very good reason to go see the movie. That guy is seriously funny. smile.gif For those who saw "Snatch" he played Franky Four Fingers. So I'm definitely going to go see it.
SleeplessInMunich
I think its worth seeing just for Jessica Alba in that outfit...
UrbanAngel
Did the same people do The Punisher?
I liked Constantine, I must say. Hellraiser was ok too.
AnthonyDoesEurope
This movie is getting unusually high ratings on the Internet Movie Database (imdb.com), so I think I'll go to see it.
MajorBummer
UrbanAngel, once again, come to my arms! biggrin.gif Constantine! What a nice trashy movie! And Keanu!! Perve-perve! wub.gif
perdido
Yeah I will see it also but still have reservations... biggrin.gif

You know you’re gone beyond run-of-the-mill movie violence you need to use the plural for 'castrations.'"
Yeti
You know you've gone beyond run-of-the-mill grammar when you need the plural of "castrations".

Looks like a great dark violent film, strong murderous women with sidearms, tormented vengence seeking hero and music by Roberto Rodriguez. I may have to sacrifice my lunch money to see this.
UpQuark
I'd be up for seeing this if times are convenient. Never read the books, but I dig most of Miller's stuff and critics seem to like it (and they're never wrong).

It's a great adaptation of a graphic novel. Just how it should and could have been done.
This film could never have been shot in full colour as it is very violent.
White blood tends to make it easier on the eye.
If your expecting the likes of "Spiderman, Fantastic 4 or X-Men" you're in for a shock and this is not the film for you. It makes "The Punisher" look like a kid's movie that Disney screwed up.
Each little story is great, the acting is great, it doesn't hold back and I guess there's just one word to describe it: RAW!
perdido
It is a great novel and that is why I was reluctant to see it although it is done by a different production companythan the one who did Punisher. The Punisher was one of my favorite comic books and the movie did it no justice. Yet the review just given by DD sounds good so I will see it...
Breeze
Hiya

ive send a PM to you yesterday about meeting up. Could you gave me directions as i would like to come along on Thur to watch movie, oh bye the way please dont think im stalking you huh.gif
UrbanAngel
@Breeze : Sorry, I didn't see this thread when I clicked on 'View New Posts' sad.gif I haven't replied to your PM yet, as I've been really busy. If you do a 'Search' in the top-right hand corner for 'cinema' you will get a page of info about it and how to get there (or at least its website).

Anyway, the film was great, really to be recommended. Pretty violent, but very good anyway. I especially liked the costumes smile.gif
Levon
Saw this last night - Wow...Tarantino fans will go nuts for this...lots of violence but in
an artistic way (white blood?). The "film Noir" look was cool, the style was infectious,
and the campiness was over the top - surely to be a cult film for decades.

This film had some of the most beautiful women in it, and all the guys were tough as
nails, and seemed to be invincible...I've not read all the comics, and I'm not familiar
with the Punisher series discussed, however, this (rather long) film is a way cool
evening's entertainment - go see it.
UrbanAngel
I think this thread needs more pictures from the film.

For the record, I am hopelessly in love with Alexis Bledel. Specifically, I'm taken with the character she plays in the U.S. TV show, The Gilmore Girls. Can't wait to see her gothed up. Ah, be still my beating heart!
UrbanAngel
I like the Gilmore Girls too biggrin.gif
She's not really gothed up in the film though. She has tight black trousers on, and the top you see above, but otherwise.. she plays an immature prostitute and so her character isn't very dominating, if you're looking forward to that wink.gif
UpQuark
She could be reading the phone book and I'd probably still pay money to see it.
UrbanAngel
Just for you

Now thats better biggrin.gif
+ve karma for you keydeck
UrbanAngel
At the beginning of the film, there are shots of women wearing even less than that photo smile.gif Um yes so the film is very deep and meaningful..
Exile
Nice but Jessica Alba should have dark hair dry.gif
UrbanAngel
I didn't think so, but after seeing this photo of her, I have to agree.

Exile
Didn't you ever see Dark Angel?

Also Brittany Murphy was seriously cute with dark hair.
UrbanAngel
No, is that her?
Exile
Yes, I think the Dark Angel TV series was Jessica Alba breakthrough role.

Its OK but apart from Alba nothing special, I don't think its a coincidence that it came out after Buffy proved to be such a success.
UrbanAngel
Nice clothes smile.gif

parnell
Ok I've seen it :
Good points:
Black and white cinematography is great
Lotta hot chics in g-strings

Bad points:
Glorifies torture - each and every "hero" enjoys torturing their victim (also not nice guys)
Clive Owen's accent is shit
crappy dialogue - I know they're trying to bring a comic book to life but this was the best part of Tarantino

Overall : 4/10
jandzero
Color me impressed.

The best part of the movie: the shots and dialogue are right out of the comic book, shot for shot and line for line. Kudos to Rodriguez for not pulling any punches. The loyalty to the original work is amazing, and Miller deserves the directing credit dispite what grief it cost Rodriguez (he lost his director's guild membership for including a non-director in the credit).

The letdown is: the violence is just too much. If you read the three books that make up this film, they came out over a 3-4 year period. Even reading the graphic novels will take you longer than watching this film. When you take all that violence and compress it into 100 blood-spattered minutes, it's becomes a cartoon of itself, something that did not come across in the books.

That the violence and corny dialogue are so over the top (similar to Desperado) is intentional, and a great upddate of the original Noir style.

Brittany Murphy is the coolest girl to walk the planet these days, this thread needs more pics of her.

Haven't seen the film yet, so dunno what she's like in this, but all is forgiven with this fine fine lady

UrbanAngel
IMHO, she was crap. I flinched at her acting. She had the same amount of bad script as the other actors, but she did not deliver it well at all, and overdid the cheesiness, espcially on the lines 'You fool, you damn fool'. It's obviously hard managing to carry off bad script and make it look semi-believable. The others had no problems.
parnell
Agree with UA - weakest female in the whole thing - but Clive Owen's fake and breaking Yank accent ---- YEEEESH!
EDIT: Bruce Willis should refrain from using words longer than "cat" - Clint Eastwood would have been SOOOO much better here.
