Hello everybody! I am a new comer from China. I am planning to go to Germany to learn German. I can't find any information of Volkshochshule in China. I'd like to know how I can apply for the courses. Thank you!

Hiya, just to get this straight : you want to learn German in China before you come over here, and what to know where in China you can learn German?
If so, we'd need to know which city you're in.
You could try the Goethe Institute.. there's usually one around somewhere.

Maybe the Goethe-Institut or other language schools would be more appropriate in your case than the
Volkshochschule. The Goethe-Institut has a website in English.

Hi,
I did made a very good german course here in munich. Actually the standart at the
Volkshochschule is not very good and the Goethe Institute is really very very expensive. Try at the Deutschinstitut Integra, they have very good courses for reasonable prices. You can phone them 0800-55 11 511 (Freecall from Germany) or send an e-mail to info@deutschinstitut.de.
I hope I could help you little bit. I know what it is to be a foreigner in foreign country because I am from India here in Germany

Thnx Pronita,
I called them now and I get a reply on the first ring.
And they promised to call me back immediately. Impressive response!
They spoke to me. They are looking at a strength of around 15 people. Is anyone interested to join on weekdays in the evening say 7-9 pm. We could finalise the day of the Week.
Pls PM me or post a reply. I am awaiting more details of the course on Monday.

I'm doing the VHS course now.. the teacher is excellent, however I think they concenrate too much on grammar and not enough on just plain getting your message across and understanding people.. maybe I will change my view on this once I can actually communicate with people though!
Its really cheap for what it is (204 euros for 8 weeks, 3 times a week, 3.5 hour sessions) so I don't regret my choice and I am going to go for the next course too..
The way I booked it was via email.. you can call them but most of the time they only speak German (they are not just for German courses!)..

Hi,
even I did do my first course at the
Volkshochschule. It was ok, but at Integra they did - beside the grammar - really focus on the ability to talk perfect soon.
They speak in the phone also english and they are focused only on German courses. They also do evening courses (2 and 3 times a week), in the big group it is I think like 2,70 Euro/hour and in the smaller intensive groups it is little more expensive.

Hi,
I am new on this site, and would like to ask a question from anyone with Au Pair experience in Munich.
I have just brought my children to Munich, and our Au Pair is still on her French carte de sejour.
I'd like to register her for German lessons at the
Volkshochschule. Will they ask to see her au pair permit, and in any case, I have heard the German classes are usually full up with a waiting list, is this true?

If you want to get onto a German course you'd better get down there on the day the registrations open, about an hour before they open for business. If you show up any later you'll be waiting an hour anyway, because the line gets huge.
When I registered they didn't need to see any information about me, and in fact a friend from my class signed her friend up so it should be fine. You just need the registration card and have it filled in with her details and the course number.
If you don't have this card, I think you have to go and get it upstairs first and then go downstairs to register. Good luck, cause its a pain in the freaking ass..

If you want to sign up for German classes, you go on Friday before the general sign up. I don't exactly know why they do it the day before (maybe because it takes longer per individual). Anyway, go Friday the day before. Do not wait until Saturday or the classes will be filled.
They DO NOT tell you this on the website or over the phone.
There is another post out here regarding this topic but I do not have time to search for it myself.

Well it's saturday morning start of the new registration for
Volkshochschule and I should be able to do it online...
But since about 9:30, I've been getting mySQL error from their database
Not totally unsurprised but a bit annoying...
As an aside the process seems pretty simple:
* Register
* Get password from email sent to you
* Log-in
(note page as of Saturday morning does not give you this option, is always a static page
http://static.mvhs.de/)I had found a way to get round this but it seems about 10:15 the buggers have stopped it.
Lets see.

Anyone filled in the normal (ie. non-login'd in) registration form, I just see too many errors (probably due to high useage) to want to blindly send my bank details. Maybe phone is better...
Else I'll try later.

Is there any way to know in advance what level German (A/B/C) one should sign up for at the VHS? Will they want to test me first?

Basically reading the site (mvhs.de) you have:
Grundstufe 1-3 = (A1/A2) for this no test is usually required (see exception below)
Grundstufe 4, Mittel und Ober = (B & C) this requires you register to take a computer based test at the VHS
Also learning levels adapt this:
Kursetyp 1 (slow) = this requires a test always (strange if you're a beginner)
Kursetyp 2,3 (normal & fast) = test not required with Gs 1-3
I've just been phoning and surprize surprize it's engaged... still getting database errors on the website and not happy about using the generic form as there is no SSL/TLS protocol protecting it (ie. always look for a lock icon in your browser when banking etc..)

I have just registered for the VHS to do a beginner course in german (type 3), I'm an Aupair and the lady I am living with did it over the phone for me, yeah it took a while after being on a hold (about 5 mins) but registered straight away
my course number is LO 3018
is anyone else registered for this?
I have no idea if it is even right for me really, but we think it seems to be the best and as I only arrived in Munich yesterday I haven't had a lot of time to look around but I hear its pretty competitive in regards to standard and price and thats why it fills up so quickly
