I'm looking for something team oriented to do to help me stay fit. I have always liked soccer(or football, whatever you want to call it) but only played when I was between 7 and 10 years old. Are there any leagues/groups around for women or co-ed teams that people play and that play for fun and fitness only? - nothing too serious for me. I'm reasonably fit(I did do the Munich Triathlon last month) but I'm looking for something fun to do with other people.

There are women's teams in Munich, but not as many as there are men's teams. I've only seen the league teams, which no matter the level, take the game fairly seriously. Best bet is to give the "House of Football" (Haus des Fußballs), Briennerstr. 50, Tel: 089/542770-0 a call and ask them about "Freizeitliga für Frauen".

Or you can become a referee and take over from me when I hang up my whistle at the end of the season.

Referee - there's a lot of exercise in that - my Dad was a referee for 25 years so I know it's good exercise - but way too much committment...

I haven't played soccer in years but I wanted to pick it up again .It's great exercise, fun, and gives me something to do. However, there seem to be no women teams...I wouldn't even mind joining a guys team, but I'm not sure how enthusiastic they would be about that wink.gif

Does anyone know any info regarding this?

thanks!
-Maria

There are plenty of women's teams. You just aren't looking in the right places presumably. Here're some links:

FC Bayern site.

FFC Wacker München

FFNews.de - Frauen Fußball News site

FF-Magazin - Women's Football Magazine

I'm sure Showem can cast more light on this as she used to be a referee. Dunno if she ref'd womens games or not though but she'll probably have more concrete info than my little Google search yielded.

Keydeck has done a pretty good job of covering the basics. The only other thing I would recommend is the same thing I did a few posts above and that's call the "House of Football" (Haus des Fußballs), Briennerstr. 50, Tel: 089/542770-0 and ask them about "Frauen Fußball in München".

If you find anything out, let me know. I love soccer, played it competitively for 12 years. Although for the last 4 years I have just played for fun. I actually practised with a women's team here for a few months, but it was somehow different... starting with the fact that they all only spoke bavarian. Anyway, i would be up for a friendly game with guys and girls. It's always a lot of fun.

You just have to look in the Bezirk in which you live... here's one for Freimann:

Thanks for all the info.

thing is, all these seem...well, rather professional. I barely even know all the rules of soccer, so I was hoping to find more of an amateur setting.

However, I will contact them to see if their website apperarances of professionalism are in fact deceiving!

Why not buy a ball, find a few friends and kick it around the park in that case? Seriously, no need to go and lay out membership fees and be committed to several days a year if you just want to play now and again for a bit of a laugh.

MM would also be interested but just for fun as am no pro.

This may be a bit outta the way for some of you, but I play for a "Freizeit" team in Freising. We have at least one other person coming from Munich.

We play outside at least for another month (every Friday from 18:30 to 20:00) and in the winter we play in the gym (very small fee). We are not a club but we do join in some tournaments in the summer against other clubs. It is quite fun and we accept beginners to "pros". I started playing last year--completely new to the game. There are two other native english speakers on the team too. If anyone is interested, let me know.

We are the "Freising Park and Ride Girls" and dress in Orange--but don't hold that against us! rolleyes.gif

I played competitive soccer for a team called FSV Höhenrain its outside of Munich close to Starnberg. We played against a team from Munich called FC München Phoenix. When I say ‘competitive’ I use that word lightly. It was a competitive league but most teams where not very good. Having played competitive soccer pretty much my whole life it was for sure a few steps down.
FC München Phoenix was by far the best team in the league…they didn’t lose a league game except for one tie against my team.
