Help Mums to be. Where can I buy maternity clothes other than Formes, H&M, and ( yuck C&A) I am dying for Gap maternity. Good prices, good quality. I don't want to spend 100euros on maternity pants for summer when there will not be much summer left, but I don't want them to fall apart after one washing either! HELP!!!
chloe
The H&M stuff is pretty robust - i got all my maternity stuff from then, and it didn't 'fall apart after one washing'.

Does anyone know of any good shops which stock stylish maternity wear and also where to go to buy baby clothes and equipment? Are there any good department stores - I am arriving in Munich with 7 months to go until the baby arrives - so need help!!

I wasn't impressed with most of the maternity wear so I had someone ship me Lands' End, Target, and Old Navy stuff from the States. H&M maternity tights were okay but the trousers (one pair) I got there didn't stay up like I thought they should.

As for baby gear, I really like Baby Walz. You're lucky in Germany in that you have Baby Walz stores there so you can actually see and touch some of the things but they have a catalog and a website. www.babywalz.de

I've ordered several things from Baby Walz and found them to have decent prices for the quality-- plus it's nice that they deliver to your door for a reasonable fee (even for big things like a playpen.) The clothes aren't the cheapest but the quality is really good. They also have some things for moms like nursing bras.

Another place to check would be your local Tschibo/Eduscho. Yes, this is a coffee store but they get new things every week and often those things are baby-child-related. I've found them to have good prices and excellent quality. When you see something you like, get it and stash it away-- kids grow fast and because their stock changes weekly, you never know if/when you're going to find that thing again.

I am trying to find some pregnancy clothing around in Munich without much success...I am not able to find any of the "common" stores that we see in other EU countries, e.g., Prenatal or Pre-Maman. Can you please share some tips on this? Not only about underwear and regular clothes, but I am also looking for swimsuits...

Thanks!

Hi Etur,

Last time I went into Munich, I saw one of my favourite maternity wear shops called Formes http://www.formesdeutschland.de/index.htm I bought several pair of trousers in their Barcelona and London boutiques. Very comfortable ones!!! A little bit pricy...but hey...they may be on sale now. And why not...treat yourself, celebrate that you are pregnant wink.gif

HI Cristina,

thansk for the reply. after some checking, there are really not a lot of places in Munich for such stuff...Ludwick Beck used to have an "Umstandsmode Abteilung" but not anymore. So the ones I found is C&A (pretty bad), H&M in Kaufingerstr 18 with a very small department.

Then, in Ludwig Beck they gave me an address which prooved to have some nice trendy clothes but *very* expensive...still, they are quite nice. They are in Fraunhoferstr., 40: Chic& schwanger kimo (http://www.umstandsmode-muenchen.de/)

Two more I found but did not check:

- Mamarella in Marienhilfstr, 15
- Paulina in Hofenzollerstr, 25 (www.umstandsmoden.de)

Pretty bad, once in a while Germany surprises me with the things that one cannot find and that are so common in other countries.

Hi all,

I thought chic and schwanger was also chic and expensive. I've found a few good things in Schlicting, right by the town hall just off Marien Platz as you come to it from the top of Maximilianstr. A little on the pricey side but they had a sale on :-)

I also went to baby walz at the weekend and picked up a couple more things. So far of what I've found in Germany (very limited) I really like some of the belly button things, super soft and comfy.

If anyone has recommendations for maternity jeans I'd love to hear them.
Mrs Coulter
You can order really beautiful things online from the U.S

I know that if you are not American and don't have someone there to ship it, the shipping and customs can get pricy. But there are ways around that.

If you are interested look at:

http://www.maternitymall.com/Shop.asp?webs...ercategory_Id=0

They have Pea in the Pod, Motherhood, Mimi Maternity etc. and now on Amazon.com you can get Gap Maternity!

If you are American or order often from the States, check out my other post about mail forwarding.

I also found True Religion maternity jeans on ebay.

Hi,

While there doesn't seem to be any "great" and cheap maternity clothing around here, I did get a lot of compliments on the "european" looking style of the stuff I had from H&M while I was in the States...

...but I also wanted to mention that if you're looking for a good quality shirt, or maybe some trendy fun stuff (or some 345 euro maternity jeans?!?!?!) you might try looking a couple of times at Schlichting, on Weinstrasse 4. They've got a lot of expensive stuff in general, but they have a sale rack, and the stuff is decent. It's way in the back upstairs.
UrbanAngel
What on earth is the "European style"?

There is a pregnancy shop at Isartor, the name has escaped me temperarily due to "baby brain" i hope. I have no idea what it's like in there as i'm still fairly early and fit in my regular clothes still, but cud be worth a try?

Hi,

Can anyone tell me where exactly Formes (the maternity shop) is in Munich?

Thanks smile.gif

Formes is great if you're working - well made and well cut, but otherwise rather expensive. H&M are good for basics and Paulina has some funky stuff. Although not in Munich, the best shop overall IMO for maternity wear is Top Shop in the UK.
cinzia
Top Shop does have great maternity clothes for young mothers-to-be, and it's relatively inexpensive and stylish. And they've only offered maternity for a couple of years now.

United Colors of Benetton (near C&A) has a section for baby, toddler and some matternity stuff on the top floor as well, I think they are better quality, but certainly more expensive than H&M and C&A.

I went to Formes and to H&M today. Bought a dress at Formes that I'm not quite ready for, as it makes me look more pregnant than I'm used to, but it's cool and comfortable and in another month it will definitely not look any bigger than I am. All the summer stuff is 50% off right now.

I was pretty disappointed with H&M. It was all ghastly in my opinion. Maybe it's just the colours they have available are bad for me, but they really struck me as fugly. A couple of tops were okay, but boring neutral colours, nothing peppy for summer.

Where I ended up getting some tops was Esprit. They don't have specific maternity wear, but their tops go up to size XXL. At nearly 5 months pregnant and a very busty bust, (I'm normally around a 42/44 upstairs but the breasts are way bigger now), that fit me. So if you are slight or not yet that far gone, I'd check them out. Dead cheap too.

@ Showem - I'm in the same club as far as the boobs go. I'm having a hard time finding bras to accomodate my added size(s) up top. Mind, I've never bought bras in Germany since I never really found nice bras in the F range which was my pre-pregnancy cup size. I'd always ordered stuff online and had my mother ship it over. Anyway, any tips on shops which carry larger cup sizes would be much appreciated. I suppose I'll likely have to have some ordered special or shop while I'm in the States in August. Not sure I can wait that long though.
Showem
F cup is bigger than I take. Well, was bigger, I haven't checked since the hormones hit! Drop Johnny English a PM or check out his website. Also, check out www.bonprix.de, as lots of their lingerie goes up to big sizes (not sure how big exactly).

Hi there,
I'm 14 weeks pregnant and the normal clothes are going to have to be packed away very soon! I only arrived a few weeks ago and have only been into Munich once, so any pointers/addresses for shops would be gratefully received.
PS. I absolutely lived in H&M maternity clothes last time. Do they do them here too?

You can get maternity cothes at H&M and for example at C&A.
Just outside of Munich is a store called "Paulinas Umstandsmoden"
wahoo
I noticed a few maternity clothing shops on Hohenzollernstrasse...close to the Munchener Freiheit end. If you are coming from Leopoldstrasse they are on the left hand side a few blocks up. Don't remember the names though!
Peggy01
Paulina maternity just launched the english website. Check out www.paulinamaternity.com for the UK/US side or www.umstandsmode.de for the German site.

By far the best maternity fashion in Munich and Germany...
knickerbokerglory
Baby Welt in Augsberg had the biggest and best selection i've seen in Munich (It's about an hour away). It's at a place called Hary-Park. They even had the smaller sizes in stock in lots of their clothes, which i rarely find in town. And a selection of maternity swim wear too! The range is Espirit. And fairly good prices too.
emilyhammond
You can also buy espirit maternity online at espirit.de and you can now buy next maternity on line and get it delivered here, and they have lots of stuff.
