I ventured today to Potsdamerplatz mainly to get some stuff from the Canadian embassy to do with my health insurance coverage and taxes in Canada, and I must say this: How impressive!! It's a new building which opened a while back, and it's really modern looking. Bigger than the French and American embassies I believe.

Anyhow, I got quite a laugh when the German receptionist lady offered service in French to me (speaking a weird mix of a Parisian & a German accent), but couldn't understand Canadian French biggrin.gif

I couldn't seem to find one Canadian working at the embassy dry.gif

Can anybody understand Canadian French??
Chris W
Absolutely! There are two main different types of Canadian French, in fact. Acadian (which is very very mixed English and French) and Quebecois which makes new words up every few months which is a laugh in the rest of the francophone world.

You just have to live in Quebec for a while to get the hang of Quebecois, the most spoken version of French in Canada smile.gif

Cheers

Or just does what the rest of the world does and steals them from English:

Le hot dog, le weekend, le super-sixpack-dancemix... (that last one is from a Montreal radio station).
