I saw a couple other GPS threads oriented towards PDA-style GPS programs. I'm looking for a standalone GPS unit suitable for use in the country side and in the Alps.

I got to munich last month from NC for my job, and my wife will be arriving next month. SHe is a professional cyclist, and will be spending 3-5 hours a day on her bike, probably mostly south of the city and in the Alps. As neither of us are too famliar with the area, I was thinking a GPS unit would be good for her to carry with her all the time that can tell her where to go and how to get back to town.

I;ve looked at some Garmin and Magellan products, and luckily Magellan has a 3D topo map of Germany -

Anybody have any experience with these? or any other ideas?

I've also gathered that Saturn and Media Mart are good places to buy electronics. I'll probably check out the Saturn in Karlsplatz today.
