Well as the headline says I can proudly announce that I don'tdrink (much) anymore.
I had this cold comin gon a few weeks ago and dranka several red wines on the same night. I flet so ill the next day that I had to stay in bed - age is catching up with me.
Well since then I just can't face alcohol anymore. And what is odd is that I do not miss it! I only used to drink say a beerr a night but now I only drink if at all at weekends, and my evening drink is now a cup of cocoa.
How long this will last is anyone's guess but I have already lost weight.
Has it made me feel any better? Like hell it has, but at least I am getting thinner.
Anyone else done this?

Tried to.
Repeatedly.
Managed 6 months once (after a ruptured stomach ulcer).

bit excessive to give it up entirely perhaps but I don't drink much at all during the week anyway (not that much at weekends either actually - a shared bottle of wine and some beer tops). I'm becoming scarily like my parents I think - avoiding getting too pissed so that I can get up earlyish and 'do useful things' at the weekend - scary! Sometimes a beer really hits the mark though after a day at work

I don't think I could ever give up beer.. it's just so nice and refreshing. I am, however, seeing a digression in my alcohol tolerance. The other night I had 2 Radler mass WITH Obatzda and Brez'n and passed out an hour later. I wasn't off my tits but was definitely a bit

never tried to give up beer and do not intend to, whats the point of living in the beer capital of the world not drinking the stuff

Yes, I did it. In the middle of ski season, no less. I had broken up with a boyfriend and I knew that the drinking was making me more depressed so I stopped drinking on the weekends. I still went out, got to be the designated driver and then really whupped everyone on the ski slopes the next day. Now I rarely drink. OK, OK, after our epic ride last Saturday (75km mtn biking) I did have a beer. In that case, it definitely was wonderful to enjoy one.
Now, if I could just give up the Diet Coke!

Funnily enough the last time I went on the wagon it was in Saudi. Everyone thinks it is dry but that is the biggest joke of all. More alcoholics out there than you can shake a stick at. My partying was getting out of hand there and I had to stop it. Took up desert camping as you couldn't risk taking it out on the road with you in case you got searched at roadblocks.
I stayed on the wagon 3 years but fell off it somewhat badly!

There were gasps of amazement and pointed fingers as I drank only water last night at the
curry night.
Look people, it is more than OK not to drink.
Especially if you're as wobbly on a bike as I am.

I disagree Katrina. Are you feeling ok?
Topsy
Jul 21 2005, 11:49 am
katrina, i think the gasps of amazement were more to do with the level the tone could sink to without the accompaniment of alcohol
Katrina

There is low.
There is lower.
There are gutters.
There are sewers.
And even then it still wouldn't get as low as the level last night.

That's amusing Topsy but my gasp of amazement and pointy finger definitely were simply because Katrina was on the waggon. Sheer disbelief.

Well I feel like shit today, 10 days in.
I have had a sort of flu the last couple weeks. Can't face any alcohol either.
Runny nose and headache today.
Someone please get me to a pub!

Usually if I'm sick I don't drink b/c it depresses the immune system. Give the cold a while to get better and then hit it.
I recommend a strong gin or vodka to whup the last remnants of illness... maybe a nice cold manhattan or some absinth...

This thread has got to be a wind up
There are few things that man can live without, and after a desperate MTB climb on a hot summers day up to a hütte then beer is definitely one of them! Afterall, Weissbier is just food isn't it?
