Hi everyone. My name is Scott, and I have been living in Germany for four years. I eventually did suceed in my being able to fit in here, however, my wife and I due to alot of German procedures that we could not foresee during this time, and I suppose due to simple inexperience, found this to be very difficult. But the outcome of all of this was that I wanted to be able to help any other Americans wanting to come over here to live, to be able to do so without as many problems as what I encountered. And so last week I created a Community WebSite. I did not do this to infringe on what toytownmunich has. This site is pretty amazing. And for people living in München, I would say very comprehensive. But the reason that I'm posting here is that I'm new at creating sites, and would really like some input. So if you wouldn't mind viewing the site, and possibly even helping, then please come visit:
Americans in GermanyMy hope is that eventually enough people will contribute information on such things as where to get a residence permit, work permit, finding a job, apartment, etc., etc...

It's a phpwebsite program, which I'm actually pretty inexperienced at, however the principle is that, once you've become a member, your then able to submit articles, and helpful links and such...
Anyway, that's what I hope for it to be...
And there is a forum board as well.

So you're hoping essentially for a Toytown then...just for all of Germany? Do I have that about right? Are you going to charge for it, is it a hobby or are you seeking for adverts?
Site looks ok to me - and as evidenced by the many requests for TT Berlin, Hamburg etc theres a need out there. But I personally think if you're seriously asking this board for help you should check with Editor Bob if he'd like a link on your forum for those living in Munich. It would only be polite really.
Cheers

To be quite honest, I'm not sure how to contact him, but I do agree with you.
Could you help me out with that?
By the way, I am not going to charge anything for it. That's the reason for my creating the site. When I needed help here in Germany, I could only find places that wanted to charge me. So, this is my little way of getting back at them. A free information site.

All I can say is I hope you have the latest version of Norton Anti-Troll loaded onto this new site, otherwise it could be a place for unscrupulous TT'ers to go and play.

Priceless. For everything else there is Mastercard.
Beware the "sleeper troll cells". These guys are sent behind enemy lines to settle in and blend with the community. Many have been trained in the art of spelling english incorrectly, launching into random patriotism, and some can even pretend to enjoy Hershey bars. But when the order comes they will be ready.

... I suggest you get the site running properly before advertising it. I tried to create an account - firstly I got bounced with a PHP error and then I was told my username is already taken. My confirmation email ... never arrived.
I'd love to submit articles but can't.

Persistent, aren't we? Please feel free to visit the Phpwebsite homepage to find out for yourselves that the copyright symbol on my site is part of the php program. And Wiki has referred me to more info that I can use on my site. Now, if you'd registered as a user on my site, and looked in the links section, you'd already know that.
But, thanks again for your comments

I hate to be a killjoy and all that - but why reinvent the wheel?
Just use the Invision software as used by some other erm... well known forums (like most of 'em).
Trial copy is free:
http://www.invisionboard.com/?triallimitedor full version $70 a year, or $185 for ever. No bugs, no dramas and you can then spend time working on other areas of the site.

I'm going to do this as quick as possible.
For each person that registers, php requires me to set permissions.
That way you'll have better access to the site.
That is also why I don't worry so much about Trollers

Logged in with the info you sent by pm. Dont know much about the technicalities of the site. My only advice is make sure you have legal insurance if you dont already. Even with the disclaimers you can be held liable for any illegal links and say copyright infringements posted (unknowingly) on your site.
Good luck!

Americans in GermanyHey everyone! Just wanted to say that I've updated my new site a little.
Still looking for help from anyone that is familiar with the builder "phpwebsite" though.
Have also added on a new forum there for anyone that is interested.
I'd like to encourage anyone who's interested to join!
BTW: Editor Bob has given me his permission to talk about my site here, and given me the permission to add TT as a link from my site.
Anyway, take care!
Scott

Starting to get the hang of phpwebsite!
For anyone thats interested in this kind of thing, I've enabled such things as a classified section, Job listing section, Cookbook section, a large Bulletin Board that allows html code for those that know how to input it, and much more!
There's also:
Scoreboard features (for anyone who wants to post their favorite sport)
Podcast
A shopping program with multiple payment options. (This would be for those of you who'd like to sell items through the site)
PhotoAlbum (Add your favorite pics)
Linkmanager
RSS Feeds
Polls
Announcment Features
And more to come!

It would appear that this website is now offline. It's not clear whether it'll ever be back. The domain is registered until 12.Jul.2006.
