Hi Everybody
So, we will be arriving in Mid October 2005. With Grandma to look after little one for 3months while we are trying to get settled...
But now I need to know what is all included in a
Furnished apartment/flat/house?
I need to know what I will need and will not need?
Any feedback?

I don't think there is a clear definition of 'furnished'. I would assume it is determined on a contract-by-contract basis, so I would look carefully at the contract and possibly negotiate.

I just moved out of a furnished apartment. Furnished meant everything: kitchen, laundry machine, linens, towels, etc. If you don't want some of that stuff because you are bringing your own, you can tell the landlord to take it out, or just leave it there and use your own.
When you rent a place, make sure you ask what is included, because it'll differ from landlord to landlord.

I also used to live in a furnished apartment. It meant everything including cutlery, ironing board, sugar bowl, you name it.
An inventory was part of the rental agreement. It simply has to tie up when you move out again.

be aware too that unfurnished can literally mean nothing i.e. the place is gutted - no kitchen units and no bathroom fittings.
Agree with others, furnished can differ from place to place but usually includes pretty much everything

Thanx
'cause we were discussing if we should take a pot or two. or a towel or two.
My husband does not want to take ANYTHING. Actually I also dont want to take any extra.
as we are only allowed about 75 kg for our luggage between the 3 of us, and I dont want to waste that space on things I really dont need to bring with...

Where are you flying from? Most major airlines allow each person to have 2 check-in bags plus a carry-on. Although they don't weigh the carry-on, the checked in bags can be up to about 35kgs each (approx. 70lbs). That means each person can bring up to approx. 70kgs.
I know this because my fiance and I recently moved here and transferred items between luggage at the check-in counter so all of our bags were right at the limit. We put the extra stuff in our carry-ons, which were pretty heavy as a result, but like I said, they don't weigh carry-ons.
I wouldn't worry about pots or pans, or books for that matter. Maybe a towel or two so you're not using someone elses towel.

Towels and bedclothes on the other hand were not on the inventory in my case. I would see them as personal items and not expect them to be on there anyway.

Anwalt - you can from the USA, there you are allowed to have 2 pieces weighing no more than 35kg's each,
but coming from any other country, Asia, Europe, Africa, South Africa(as in my case),then I am only allowed 20 kg's,but the give way to about 25kg's.
That's the nice thing when coming from USA. Imagine if I could actually have 70kg's per person. That would be GREAT!!!

you definitely need to take (or buy in Germany) towels, bedclothes etc.

That's fine...
I thought of taking towels with, but things like cutlery, pots and pans are another thing. I dont want to carry that around.
Bed linen, that I will buy when I get there, as we will be staying at a hotel (if I ever get availibility) for a few days, so it gives me time to shop abit...
