Where to buy this in Munich

I have never seen any since I have been in Munich but maybe somebody knows a secret source. I am getting desperate for some Barfi, especially Chocolate Barfi, since I haven't been to Brum in a while.

Does anyone know where to get chocolate Barfi in Munich?

(or does anyone know how to make it?)

there's a small indian shop at Harras (over the road from McD) which sells it, also some Indian shops around Hauptbahnhof sell it too, but to be honest i found it quiet 'chemical' tasting - they have so much food flavouring in them that they probably glow in the dark!
haven't come across choco anywhere.
as we're on the topic, often Barfi is covered with silver foil (which you can eat!) as deco. Does anyone know where i can get some silver leaves?? biggrin.gif

Think I saw some once in that Indian/Asian shop in HBF?
Do you mean coconut and chocolate barfi? If you do, here's a recipe.

Bounty Barfi (because it tastes like Bounty bars to me)

1 cup ghee or clarified butter
2 cups dessicated coconut
3 cups sugar (usual basic white sugar, nowt fancy)
4 cups milk (also normal full fat stuff)

[2 or 3 cardamom pods (if you have them for that Indian taste)]

Yep 1-2-3-4-Barfi
As long as you keep the proportions right it should be ok.
Stick all the stuff in a non-stick saucepan and heat over a v. low heat.
Start stirring, it takes bloody ages.
Boil it up stirring a lot until it gets to a stage where if you took a spoonful of the mixture out, let it cool slightly and you could roll it into a ball with your fingers.
This takes ages. A loooong time. You don't need to stir non-stop but about once a minute at least. This can take 30-45mins to thicken.
When you can roll a little ball, then it's ready.
Bung it into a shallow, buttered/greased baking tray (or line it with greased/non-stick foil or one of those nice new silicone moulds?) and leave to cool.

Melt some chocolate in a bowl over a pan of water until melted then tip it over the mixture in the tin. Squash flat and even.
Leave to cool again.
Cut into squares

EDIT: as for gold and silver leaf, Idee at Stacchus has it but I bring mine from the UK if I'm doing a Christmas Cake with fancy decoration

thanks guys, especially Katrina for the recipe!

Nice recipe to make with kiddies that, far nicer than blooming peppermint creams like I had to make at school. It firms up enough that you could use fun cutters to cut it out with into mad shapes (daffodils and the like).

OG - if you keep eating that stuff you will definitely have to get back to the gym. I have been there 2 - 3 times a week since March and have never seen you - Winegirl told me you belong to Nautilus Fitness.

Get going guy!

Have you tried Kohinoor on Adolf-Kolping-Str, near Karlsplatz?
Owain Glyndwr
yes, they didn't have any the last time i was in there. I didn't ask tho, so maybe they have it usually. I will go again.

An indian colleague told me that they do have it. And yes, you might have to ask - I've been there a few times and they've had stuff that I wanted but not out on display.
