Perfume - the story of a murderer

Dustin Hoffman is scheduled to be in Munich from next Tuesday (12th July 2005) to begin shooting the film "Perfume - The Story of A Murderer".

"Das Parfüm" is the best-known German novel of the 20th century. From Wikipedia - Perfume (book):

QUOTE
The story is set in 18th Century France. It relates the fascinating and horrifying tale of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, a person as gifted as he was abominable. Grenouille was born without a smell of his own but endowed with an incomparable sense of smell. He apprentices himself to a perfumer and becomes obsessed with procuring the perfect scent that will make him fully human. To achieve this, he murders 25 girls and takes their smell. It is a highly sophisticated horror tale - superbly researched and written.

Hoffman will play the part of the perfumer, Baldini.

The film is being directed by Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run) and produced by Bernd Eichinger (Hitler - Der Untergang). Both these films were excellent so let's hope that Perfume will be just as good.

Unlike the above two films, Perfume will be shot entirely in English. Filming will take place at the Bavaria Film Studios in Grünwald. I don't know how long filming will take, but the finished product is already scheduled to appear in cinemas from 14.Sep.2006.

If you wanna catch Dustin's autograph, you might try eating at that Italian restaurant in Grünwald every night. He's bound to pop in there for a meal at least once. I can't remember the name or the address unfortunately. It was the restaurant Moshammer used to go to. Maybe someone else will remember.

This is my favourite book by a mile.

Glad to hear Dustin Hoffmann is in the lead role I think I heard somewhere it was Tom Hanks.
Moonboot
oooh anyone know the name of the restaurant???
Grinner
Think its called "La Villa"

Its on the main X roads...
Moonboot
ta dude.
Fehlhammer Worthen
It's "La Villa", actually. There's another one, where you see well-known people all the time, it's called "Eboli".

I have just finished this book in German and it is fantastic. Really enjoyed it and can't wait to see the film. My flatmate is a tour guide at the bavaria film studios and i have just been but unfortunately, he couldn't take us in to see the set. Apparently they have recreated the whole city in one studio..
THis is going to be a must see rolleyes.gif

Tom Hanks is in Paris filming the movie based on Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code.

Probably the cause of this confusion. cool.gif

I am only on page 73, I started reading this from recommendations from several people. I also read that the author Süßkind lives here in München.
Hellcat
pao and i were in paris over the weekend and i took these shots of Ron Howard in front of Notre Dame. he was walking around very casually and motioning toward the church. maybe they were surveying for a scene there or something. i'm currently reading the Davinci Code as well...good timing.

Hellcat
here's another one...

Blimeygirl
Wow Richie never changes. He looks the same. How he do that?
Kat
Apparently, the lead role of Grenouille will be played by a Brit named Ben Wishaw. I've never heard of him.
Lupo
Good book.
Tara
@ AnthonyinEurope,

You are of course right. Somehow got confused.

Anyway, isn't Grenouille supposed to be ugly, that Ben Wisham looks fine to me.
Elfenstar
well if he were ugly, then no one would find him sympathetic, you know. sort of like christian bale in american psycho.

p.s. thought you were long gone hellcat. hello!
Hellcat
@elfenstar - hi! still here! been traveling a lot...out of the loop a bit these days! biggrin.gif
Kat
@tara eh, from the photo I'd say Ben Wishaw is pretty weird looking. What was that word the Brits used? 'Minger'?
Tara
@ Kat,

Well certainly not a raving beauty but not how I imagined Grenouille. I imagined him like a more human version of that little swamp guy in Lord of the Rings
robbieinmunich
OK
I cant hold it in any more - Mr Hoffman is allready Here People!

Hes been here for a week...
Showem
So Robbie, have you been going out with him for drinks, batting your eyelashes at him?

Actually, I'll go out to drinks with him if he's bored. Eyelash batting optional.
Bubble Gum
Where is he staying???

I just realized that I was wrong. The restaurant in Grünwald is called "Villa Romana". Not that it matters...
robbieinmunich
Villa Romana was the last place Mr Moshammer ate.

Oh, and Dustin Hoffman was at the Bavaria Film Platz last week already.

Dustin Hoffman is an awesome actor, I loved his performance in All the President's Men, Runaway Jury and Rainman. By the way, where is Grunwald, I am quite new in Munich. Is this a suburb of Munich, or something else.
canuck
Grünwald is a small, extremely rich village just south of Munich on the Isar.

I SAW DUSTIN HOFFMAN AT SENDLINGER TOR TODAY! biggrin.gif

He was on the phone wearing sun glasses and a green hat. He's about my height or a bit taller. I didn't say anything to him since he was busy talking on the phone. He was just wondering around.
Showem
Hee hee. BG is a Hoff-spotter, BG is a Hoff-spotter...
BlueSte
First to get a photie of him in front of something uniquely München ... the challenge is laid down ... wink.gif
sk8rgrl
@BG
One of those times you wish you had a camera phone, eh? wink.gif
Iceberg Slim
Yeah, I didn't know we were supposed to report sightings. I saw him at the corner of Mühlbauer and Prinzregenten about a week ago. They looked to be doing some sort of not filming, but location type stuff with lighting and so forth. Very short. I had no idea.
Blimeygirl
Yeah after BG's post I found out he was only 5'6'' or something. I am desperately trying to remember when he and Tom Cruise were in Rainman and who was shorter hehe?!
BlueSte
It's close ...

brokenm
But I think Tom is closer to the camera!!! The shadows look edited tongue.gif
Moonboot
I have a spare copy of this book that someone can have for free if they want...(I ordered the book off Amazon then before it was delivered I picked up a 2nd hand copy at the Used Bookstore)
first one to reply can have it...it's a good read actually!! am picturing Dustin Hoffman as I read it.
Editor Bob
It's possible that this film will be aired at the special preview screening in Munich this coming Wednesday. Just a guess. Don't take my word for it.
gaijin
Editor Bob, I'm impressed. How did you know ?!
Editor Bob
Allershausen suggested it as an educated guess.

The movie was partly filmed in Munich - at the Bavaria Filmstudio in Grünwald. The producer, Bernd Eichinger, lives in Munich. The testscreening was advertised as being of "a literary film" and "Das Parfum" is well known German book. So it made sense.
Allershausen
Blimey I'm famous! biggrin.gif
Moonboot
so the movie starts in Cinema 14/09 got the new program a few days ago. can't wait to see it just finished reading the book!
planetmoni
