Ok I already posted this, but am starting a new topic on it. The idea is to go to Prague (obviously). I will organize a trip to stay at "The best Prague Hotel" (that's actually the name of it, although it's not the best hotel, it's pretty damn good. Figure we can do 3-4 in a room. Looking to book 2 rooms for a total of 8. But of course if more people want to come then we'll get more rooms. Last I stayed there (November I payed between 30 and 40 a night.) I'll try to get a price for sometime in February. It may have gone up since my stay was a dead weekend. It's located right in the center of the city near all the shopping, the big square and most of the good clubs and bars. Depending on the amount of people we can either rent a car or take a train. Depends what the majority of the people want to do. As you all know, it's a very cheap city. So when figuring in the hotel prices and whatever else we do it won't be too much more than you'd spend to party in munich for the weekend.

So far myself and DrivinWest are in, so that's 2 wankers and we need some more of you tossers so whoever is interested give a date in either february or march which would appeal to you more.
sparty
just for the info, you won't be able to rent a car, since the car rental companies won't let you take cars to the Czech Republic. But I have heard that trains to Prague are allright.
Big C
Yep, i'm up for it. Gimme suggested date though.

Oh and as for renting a car, I know people who have rented a car and taken it to the Czech. Republich. Dunno if they were allowed to, but they still did it!
fusilli
I'm thinking sometime in February. I'm going to look into it tonight to see what weekend we can get a cheaper rate. As for the car, I too have heard the car rental places give you a hard time, but we'll just call and see if some places will rent. Sometimes the deal is that they won't insure the car for any stolen property or if the car is stolen while in the Czech Rep. The good thing is that this hotel gives you parking which is one of those weird underground things that comes up and scoops your car up. Either way the train wouldn't be so bad. How long it the train ride there? We drove it in 4 hours.
San
Excellent Idea!!!
Feb and March though I won't be able to join...
The first weekend Annette and I could join would be 3/4 April...
fusilli
There's a chance I may not be here in April, therefore I will have to try and convince you tomorrow at GM's.
Big C
There are certain times I won't be able to make it and I want to plan a trip to Berlin and Hamburg in Feb. So let me know when and I'll know if I can go or not, or I can try to change my plans.
Talking of Berlin and Hamburg - if anyone wants to join me I'm planning on a week in each in the second half of feb. PM me if your interested.
mrbobke
Regarding rental cars in Czech: try Sixt. They seem to allow it without an extra charge, while bei Avis its a No-no! Only a guess, but I think the train to Prague from here is going to take a little longer than driving (train goes half speed after entering Czech).
fusilli
go to www.bestprague.com

Here's the hotel I stayed at last time..I emailed them and asked if the prices would be the same as the last bargain i got. This is an ideal place to stay...what you see in the pics is what you get..it's pretty nice and affordable.
Tif
Last weekend in Feb is the only weekend I can make it chaps.
fusilli
Are there any others who would object to this weekend? 27-29th of February...If not then I will go ahead and make reservations and look into car rental prices and train tickets prices and once I get a confirmation on who's coming i'll get back to you on a price for the weekend. Oh and here's some pictures I found when researching for clubs in Prague...
Big C
last weekend in feb. sound good to me.
and those pics look about right for what i've heard about Prague!
Editor Ted
Sorry to be a Killjoy, but the large pics have been removed to preserve bandwidth.

Please post links to them.

Thanks

Editor Ted
Jimbo
Better to be a Killjoy than a Kilroy...that's what I always say. Keydeck's site has similar photos for Munich, so just go there and pretend they were taken in Prague.
sparty
sorry chaps, I am boarding in Soelden that weekend...if it's another weekend I'll join, but I have that weekend booked already...
fusilli
haha, Well, i'm not going to go search for those pictures again...I have no idea where they came from since everything was in Czech so we'll have to do with the mental picture.

Anyway, i just got an email back from the hotel and they are so happy to hear from me again that they are willing to charge only 27-30 per person a night. It's a suite too. Which I guess is kind of normal in Prague but it's the city center and the apartment is big enough to throw a halfway descent party...So far we can get 1 suite and if more are interested we can book another one too. There's 3 person and 4 person suite's.

DrivinWest you're in too right? February 27-29th.

ok, over and out...
San
That weekend I'll be in LA...
fusilli
@ San

I remember now you saying that there's a 99.9% chance that you'll go to LA, so that leaves us with a 00.1% chance that you'll come to Prague if we go that weekend. Therefore i'll count you in. smile.gif Unless it becomes a 100% chance. Is there another time in February or March you'd be able to make it?

@ Sparty

I heard it's going to be raining that whole weekend in the Alps, so I think you should change your plans. tongue.gif
Georgia
i wanna go! i wanna go! but, what about the amsterdam trip???
San
@ Fusilli
By booking my ticket it now became a 100% chance.. (Unless I brake my two arms or so tongue.gif)

Anyway, I'll be back the 8th of March, so 12/13 March and 19/20 March would be great! cool.gif
fusilli
Hey just call me the travel agent from now on...I suppose i will be putting together a trip to Amsterdam as well. However will need Sparty and San to give tips on how to get there cheapest. So at the moment I believe we have 6 people. Myself, C, Tif, West, Georgia and Big C your friend right? By next week I will book the hotel and assuming there are 6 people we"ll get two 3 person suites. If anyone else is interested let us know soon.
San
Amsterdam rules!!!

DrivinWest
Count me in as well.
sparty
I think a good way to go to Amsterdam is by ICE. Maybe they have group tickets to get some extra discounts.
I know a good hotel as well, if the prices are still as low as it was a couple of years ago, then it's a really good option. It's not even five minutes walking from the famous "Leidseplein".

EDIT: And San, you're right! biggrin.gif
Katrina
Hi
I will be in Schipol/Den Haag/Delft this Tuesday and Wednesday and could pick up some tourist information stuff if you want me to?
I'm only going overnight and there is a tourist info office in the airport so it wouldn't be any problem.
ICE is a good option but it is a bit complicated with the prices, a person travelling alone without a Bahncard/Bahncard with Rail+ will pay about 130€ BUT people travelling with you can get a discount so say 5 people all under 25 could go for ca. 390€. If you have more than 6 people though you might be better looking at http://www.bahn.de/pv/view/angebote/sparen...penpreise.shtml. You should still check STA etc as you might get a cheap flight though.
Katrina x
PS should you want a hotel in Delft, you might like Soul Inn, Delftas a cheap hostel.
PPS I am waiting for my meeting to start so thought I would waste some time usefully with this wink.gif
fusilli
Awesome, seeing that there's a lot of enthusiasm about Amsterdam I say we do that one after Prague. I'm off two and a half weeks from March 12th till April. During this time I am planning on going to Prague (again), and possibly Amsterdam, Rome or Majorca. Rome only cost 40 € and majorca is 70€ to fly. I've been to Rome about 10 times and i've been to Cancun so i've done the whole party island thing. I'm thinking of Amsterdam as a place to go during that period. Katrina if you could get information that would be awesome, thank you.
Big C
Yeah i'm up for Amsterdam as well, but stick all that in another topic and let's keep this one for Prague at the end of Feb!
fusilli
OK "gals", the trip has been booked for the weekend of the 27 of February. AS of now there are 4 people booked in a room at the hotel Julis. 10€ more a night but 4 star hotel. Will come out to 78€ per person for the whole weekend. This is only about 18€ more than the previous price. Room is much nicer too. Breakfast included too (if we can wake up for that). tongue.gif

If anyone else is still interested let me know. Otherwise I will be planning on going again towards the end of March again.

Jeff
Hey fusili,

Still got room for me? Sounds like fun so I'll be happy to join!! Just let me know!
fusilli
Of course we do. Are you gonna be at Murphy's tonight? If so we'll talk there and figure it out. I think we'll probably get another suite cause there will probably be 3 more people coming. I'll email the hotel now and let them know that we may possibly take out another room.
fusilli
Here's the prague trip...take a look and see if you're interested...
fusilli
Even though this has been booked there has been a talk of postponing the prague trip to the first week in march...would there ba any more takers if this were to happen?
sparty
I am planning a snowboard trip again in that weekend.
Big C
@fusilli - NO! We are going that weekend! It's booked and everything.
Presh
So whats to do in Prague?
Big C
Drink, go clubbing all very cheap. (I hear it's rather pretty too)
Presh
Hey Im keen to come to Prague on the next trip? Bekky and I definately keen and Im sure I could rope in Becs and some others too. Can we set a date for another one? End of March??
fusilli
I think I am going to go again on the weekend of the 19th or 26th of march..We can plan it soon.
Jimbo
Just back from Prague (thanks again to Pao for driving us there!), and loved the city. Only problem we had was finding a club - nothing seemed really up to much. A club described as one of the 'most exclusive' in Prague (in a guidebook) was 20% full at 1a.m. and playing cheese...

However, on 28th Feb Carl Cox is playing some arena in Prague - here's the details: http://www2.ticketpro.cz/index.asp?L=EN&CA...=21&EVNT=218836 (if the link won't click, copy and paste it into ur browser).

Other than that I now know one or two nice bars, and some great places to eat. And if dancing ladies are your thing it's not too difficult to find some of those either...

Did you go to Karlovy Lazne?
Supposed to be the biggest club in central europe. I thought it was bollocks, but then I'm not into clubbing anyway. the other lads I was with seemed to enjoy it.

I trust you tried the local beverages?
Jimbo
QUOTE
Did you go to Karlovy Lazne?

Have to say we didn't - nor did any of the books mention it I don't think. All of the ones we found either looked like pits (Roxy) or looked really cheesy (Duplex, some place by the Charles bridge).

As for local beverages - yeah, I sampled a few, but being that I was there predominately as a valentines thing, I spent more time eating in restaurants and walking about the town - I suspect not something Fusilli, Big C, Tif et al have in mind??
Big C
I shall have to get researching then. But from other friends who have been there, I got the impression there was lots of nightlife.
Jimbo
Not that we found, but perhaps we were looking in the wrong part of town. The clubs we saw were bollocks - as I said on the King Wenceslas Square the nightlife is dominated by two things and two things only - casinos and strip joints. Having said that we didn't bother with the 'new town' which might have more clubs...dunno really. Either way you'll love it - it's a great town with plenty to offer even if the clubbing isn't quite a revelation.
Jeff

So we're not going for strolls in the town, and wining and dining in the restaurants?? Bummer...
fusilli
As for what I have in mind..Looking to have a good time, eat cheap, checking out Carl Cox would be ideal. Last time I was in Prague I walked for about 8 hours during the day before indulging on the absinth. Visited all the sights, walked up to the top of the hill where the old small city is. Went into one of the cathedrals and took a tour. Learned about the famous defenestration.

As for my experience, the nightlife in Prague is pretty amazing. A friend of mine lives there and another one studied there for 6 months and has recommended a list of local fun disco's and bars to go to.

Anyway, what's the deal with the car rental situation?
Big C
The Roxy has loads of good music on. Even on the weekend we are there both
and Krafty Kuts are playing.

And Carl Cox is playing in Brno not Prague.
Jimbo
Would appear I missed a trick on the clubs. Roxy is supposed to be good, but the look of the place is well, errrr, a bit Soviet biggrin.gif

Great bar right next door to Roxy tho called Roberts and a SUPERB restaurant just down the street. A whole night out in 100m probably.

As for cars we didn't rent one - Paul has his own, but all the books warn you to only park securely or it'll get nicked or broken into. The car of choice in the Czech republic is still an old Skoda...
Keydeck
Perhaps this may be of some use to you.

great time this weekend. Have a cold and feel like crap now though. I am definately glad to be back here in Munich where it's clean and normal, yet the 10€ 3 course gourmet italian meal wasn't so bad in Prague.
Big C
Yeah great weekend, crazy place, not quite what I was expecting, but lots of fun.
