Cohibar City - Bar in central Munich

Well worth a visit

I remember about 2 years ago or thereabouts hearing that Cohibar City had opened. I'd been to Cohibar in KPO (now Kultfabrik) a number of times and really enjoyed it, but never got around to going to it's city sister. So last night, after a few beers in Kilians accompanied by an excellent guitarist (gotta love that Mr. Bojangles), we headed off to have a looksee. Walking up Maximilianstr the most important point to note is that anyone who pays €510 for an orange jacket from Moshammer's shop should be fucking shot!

Anyways, moving swiftly on, Cohibar City is surprisingly small when you first walk in. They've gone for the bare brick look and after about 2 minutes in the place I decided that I was very disappointed that I'd never been before. The service is without a doubt, probably the best I've seen in Munich. Take a picture of this, stunningly gorgeous waitresses (even by Munich standards) wandering around, smiling at you all the time, making sure that you're well watered. Latino music, but without any cheesiness. Basically the kind of beats I'd expect in a Tarantino movie or featuring in the likes of Desperado. Dunno how the prices ranged as I was too hammered on awesome Whiskey Sours to notice. In stark contrast to most of Munich's nightlife offerings, Cohibar City is a standing bar. There are some stools along the bar and some seats in a corner but basically you've gotta stand. This does a couple of things. Firstly it means that everyone is in the same place rather than segregated into little sections. And secondly it means that the hot latina customers shaking their thing around are quite easy to engage. So long as you're willing to give it a whirl. As the night goes on girls get up and dance on the bar. These are not paid professionals, just girls having fun on a night out. The door policy appears to be fairly gentle. We were there with a regular, so no problems, but from what I've heard, so long as you're reasonably dressed and not mashed you shouldn't have a problem. Certainly being in the company of a woman will go a long way. The other bit of inside info I was given is that the waitresses, although hot as hell and flirty as you could imagine, are mostly going out with the male staff members, so don't bother trying, just enjoy.

If ever there was an appropriate time for a Schwarzenegger quote it's now. "I'll be back!"

Quote for the night. Girl shaking her ass directly in front of my mate. She turns to him and says, "You like?". Nuff said.

Sounds good - perhaps a few peeps might like to check this place out with me next week sometime? As for service and so forth, I went to Vorstadt cafe last night, which is basically 30seconds from home for me, and I was very pleased with it - thought the food was good, and although she wasn't so attractive, the waitress was fab, very cute, and changed to speaking in fluent English to us by the end of the night - I'll be back there too.

Jimbo,
it is possible to judge a place by more than waitresses you know biggrin.gif
Jimbo
It is POSSIBLE, but frankly you would be missing the point. Good service is paramount, and good looks certainly don't hurt. I have put a slightly more detailed comment on the main TT page...

From your description it reminds me a bit of the Riks bar... (except for the music)

too bad the place was closed down though sad.gif

all in all, I'm up for checking this place out.
Saturday the 24th perhaps?! biggrin.gif

There's a Rick's bar recently opened in Rotkreuzplatz where the Wienerwald used to be. Nice little place.
San
really? thanks for the post, will check it out!

Been there a good few times , chics mostly hos there. Not my scene.
Keydeck
Could you elaborate on the 'chics mostly hos' please? What does that mean? Are you saying that the women in that bar are actually prostitutes or that they just come across that way. And do you mean Cohibar City or Ricks? Please clarify.
parnell
It is a smaller version of Copperface Jacks , if ur gettin what im givin. The times I've been there (maybe 4) I've had a flat out fuck offer , numerous ass groping (from women now) etc. etc. and I'm no oil paintin' . No money was exchanged or was involved in so much as I understood the exchanges.
Keydeck
Jesus, Copperface Jacks! It's many a moon since I've been in that place.

Are you talking about Cohibar City or Ricks though? Wouldn't want to tell people to goto/avoid the wrong place.
San
if Riks bar, than it def. does not sound like the old one in KPO..

a bouncer in copperface jacks once saved my life... he turned me away at the door and i never went back, i hate to think of how things could have turned out... unsure.gif

Ah Slappers, those were the days. Where boggers go to shift sleeping girls. smile.gif

They tell me that now in town it's €5 just to get into most pubs and Guinness is being flogged for anywhere from €4.50 upwards. The place is going to hell in a handcart.

Disclaimer: I don't really know what going to Hell in a hardcart means, but it seemed appropriate.

I'm talkin about the same place u are keydeck - the one in town off Maximillian Strasse , although I've been in the other one as well , I'm not sayin it's a bad thing either - some guys like that kind of thing. First time I went was grand - met some chics from Columbia - only one of them was an out an out hoor (tight pink dress no less, no knickers according to my Brazilian mate). Second and subsequent times it got worse - almost always loads more guys to girls (see it compares very well to Coppers/Major Tom's - the latter was occassionally a good night out). In that area I try always to push the crowd towards Atomic (which rulez).

Hmmm, I'll still be paying a return visit. It's so rare that you'll find me up dancing that any place where I'm willing to give it a go it is worth a visit smile.gif

Since I don't hold the same opinion on the place as Parnell, I'd be interested to hear what others have to say about it.
