QUOTE (pinky @ Jun 29 2005, 9:58 am) *
hi all,

i just saw that there's a tt photoclub.

am a hobby photographer - was involved with projekt fotografie at the mvhs - have met a great group of photographers there, and am now branching out and looking to meet english-speaking photo enthusiasts.

are there new activities planned for july/august?

pinky

Hi Pinky,

well, yes, there "should" be a tt photo club but the problem is we managed to meet only once/twice (i missed the first meeting). Everybody seems to be too busy (no hard critics guys, just a statement) so I just kept shooting on my own. We haven´t organized/planned or even discussed the future of this "club" or how it´s supposed to work.

Personally, here is what I would like to see:
- fixed date to meet, present, discuss photos, organize sessions, etc. Some kind of structure to make people feel motivated to join and share their passion for photoraphy. If that doesn´t happen, well i guess i will just have to carry on shooting on my own sad.gif
- sharing experience, knowledge, tips&tricks, skills, etc. We probably all have different background, different skills and different ideas. Let´s put that all together.

So far I haven´t even seen any photo from the others. So I cannot really say what is going to happen.

My personal ideas/projects (things that i am going to do in the next few weeks):
- as suggested by Tim on a different post: city lights (photo session early morning to catch the first sun rays over the city)
- Tollwood: people photography
- The zoo (never been there, might be interesting)
- Street sport (inline skating at theresienwiese or the guys doing street tricks on bikes)
- portrait: manage to convince some friends of mine to "pose" for me.

So, my 2 cents worth of thoughts...

hi dk,

it is a challenge getting everyone together on the same page...

we had that at the Volkshochschule, and that was a scheduled class!

right now i'm on extended leave in indonesia but will be back next week, then i can start planning things.

i do get invites to some photo exhibits or openings once in a while. i'll try posting them on this forum the next time one comes around, maybe that could be interesting for people.

there's the f 5.6 gallery by odeonsplatz - they regularly have vernissages, and the rebekka kraft gallery has new material all the time, and K41 has slide shows from local artists every wednesday i think it was?

once i'm back in town i'll get more info.

thanks so much for your input!

pinky
Tim
Hey Pinky and DK and TT Photographers,

It looks like me and The Miss are moving into a bigger place. The living room there could probably accomodate a group of us once a month where we could look at pics and/or display shots on a flat panel monitor... It's central as well, near Goethe Platz.

I also haven't seen too many other shots. Saw some nice ones from the Pinakothek, and your Stadtlauf pics but not much else. Some of my (cough) travel pics are here... (he offers bravely) - anyone else care to share?

TGL

Deekay
@Pinky&Tim: thanks a lot for your feedback! i didn´t even know about the galleries so I will definitely check them out soon.

Pinky, just let us know when you´re in town and see if we can organize something. if you have the experience of the VHS maybe you can help us put some structure into the project.

Tim, nice picture gallery smile.gif and it´s very nice of you to offer your living room. i could also offer mine. it´s not huge so it depends on how many people we can gather but i have a big couch and a big table ;-) if you want to check out my gallery, feel free to visit the rest of my website. I have more than just the Pinakothek and the Stadtlauf. My photographs attempts are here and some travel pics are here. If you´re interested in the rest, feel free to browse from here. I have also a LOT of pictures that i haven ´t had time to post on my website yet. All material we can discuss ;-)

I plan to do my Tollwood photo shooting on the week-end. Unfortunately i cannot do the city light session because i´m already booked for friday and saturday night, but it´s definitely something we should organize soon.

Anybody else interested?

DK
pinky
hi DK and Tim,

Thanks for sharing your photos! Very nice stuff.

Unfortunately I don't have a website, been meaning to do it for ages now but have just never got around to it.

What some of the people from my photo class had started doing was just to meet outside of class, in a cafe or restaurant, about once a month or so, and share their pictures. That's it, basically. Might be an idea to just bring some favorite photos (travel, portraits, etc) and share them with one another.

Also thanks for offering your pads, that's very generous of you guys.

Am looking for a place right now, so I can't offer anything at the moment. But maybe in a couple of months.

Right, will get in touch again next week sometime.

Pinky
bernucha
Hi you all!
I totaly agree with DK, we should meet more often, there are many many things to do and discuss and as i said some time ago, i think we can learn sth from each other (prolly i can learn a lot from you!!!).
the main problem so far is to arrange to meet for the third time and keep this PhotoClub runing. As i see it, there are many of you interested on it, so it should not be so difficult to do it, right?
maybe it will be easier if we all post in the same place..and i thought our "old" tread" should be the place (TT Photo Club meetup

by the way, what about going to Tollwood this sunday?
@DK, i also had the Zoo on my "to do" list...but i was waiting a bit since i want to by a new lens soon.

and about the pics from the pinakoteken, i still have to develop them. for me it's a bit difficult to post them since i dont have a digital camera and most of the pics i've been taken and dont have them here in Munich. on the other hand, i need more training since i stop with photography for quite a long time and now i am "re-learning" some stuff.
Deekay
Hi Bernie,
yes, i agree, we should keep all messages on 1 thread but if we take the "old" one, we should change the title as people who might be interested in a photo club might not be interested in the Pinakothek anymore ;-) Is it possible to change the title of a thread? I would suggest something like "TT Photo club - pogram and activities" what do you think?
And I think they are 2 things we should organize:
- 1 monthly/bi-weekly meet-up. I have seen lots of clubs doing that. Goal is to sit down togehter just to chat, discuss pictures, projects, equipment etc...This can be done at someone´s place or in a café, bar with a laptop. It´s also a good way to just put more structure and to get people together on a regular basis. I think this should be done during the week in the evening. We should just agree on a date and time. During those meeting no pictures are being taken. It´s more about "theory" and sharing experience.
- second things are trips/photo sessions: like the zoo or Tollwood or whatever. this can be discussed, organized during the meetings. it can be done on a monthly basis to give people time to process their photos and take them to the next meeting.
At the moment I could do every day of the week apart from Monday. Friday is commonly not a good day because it´s the end of the week so my suggestion would be to meet on Tuesdays. And I think bi-weekly would be good. What are your opinions? We could start next Tuesday (1st Tuesday of the month!) around a drink to discuss how are going to proceed.
Waiting for feedback...

DK
bernucha
definetly! next tuesday sounds good for me.
i am glad you put on words what i was thinking about this photoclub (meeting once or twice a week only for chating about photography and related themes) and once a month for taking pics.
about the thread, i have no idea if it's posible to change the topic but we can try!
so, next tuesday, i would say around 7.30-8pm. Where?
cheers
b
Tim
I can come around 8pm. If it's nice, a beergarden perhaps?

Hi all,

Just came back from a shortened trip to the alps in France. I agree, we should meet more and show our stuff together more often. I've been very busy during the last few weeks, but I would really like to resume our meetings somehow.

Our living room could also accomodate up to about 10 people comfortably, so it would be possible to do some of the meetings here (not far from Harras S/U-bahn). Since today's not an option for me, and Tuesdays will be a bit hard form me anyways in the next few week, how about another time? Next Monday, for example, my place, 8 PM? Please answer in this thread until Saturday, and if there will be enough participants will call it then.

@Deekay - one of the reasons I'm not posting my Pinakothek photos is because after seeing the ones you posted, I realized I know too little about processing and preparing photos for presentation. I'm still trying to learn this from all kinds of online sites, but this is slow and I'm still not satisfied with the results I'm getting. So I'll post the things I have once I really get the hang of what I'm doing.
bernucha
hi you all!
i would love to meet you all next week, but for me Mondays is not a good day at all. so i guess that leaves only Wed or Thurs, right?
c u
Genie
Oops... you're right, missed that detail on Deekay's post. I could do Wednesday at 20:30 or so, would that be OK?
Deekay
Wednesday is fine for me too smile.gif
@Genie:thanks a lot organizing this.

Finkus Bripp
Hi all,

I am new to this forum and stumbled upon the TT photo club. Would I eventually be able to participate on Wednesday night? I am a hobby photog (into people, places and want to learn more about still life and studio photography). Have taken a course at the VHS a couple of years ago (b/w analog) but have converted to digital since then.

Is there a specific theme on Wednesday night? Look forward to your feedback.

Cheers,

Finkus

oups! I cant this wednesday. i have an important meeting which i cannot pospone. i am sorry, but i wont be able to join you this time. (please dont cancel it, otherwise we will never manage to organize the PhotoClub. But please, after the meet up, post an outline of the discussions you had, and decisions you made (i.e. when to meet, what to do, etc). thanks!
see you in the next meeting (hopefully soon!)

pinky
hey all,

i would also love to come on wednesday, but unfortunately have got a birthday party to attend.

it would be great if you could post the results of the meeting and let us know about future meetings. i would really like to get involved.

also, fyi, currently there's a photo exhibit from mvhs' projektfotografie - the group that i was involved in. there are some very good photographers in the group.
work from some of my friends are on it. i haven't yet seen it since i just got back in town a couple of days ago, but i do plan on going next week before it closes.

here's the info below, if any of you are interested in seeing what other hobby photographers are doing.

OK, looks like not enough people can make it this Wednesday, so we're going to postpone it to next week, day of week TBD according to when it is comfortable for as many people as possible. My good days are Tuesday and Thursday, Wednesday and Friday also possible.

Please reply here if you want to join in and mention which evenings are good for you.

One more thing - we will need someone with a laptop that can handle digital photos well if we want to sit comfy in the living room and see the things from there. My wife's has broken down, so no salvation from here.

Cheers and see you all here next week!
pinky
hi,

am interested! next week tuesday, wednesday or thursday would be good for me.

pinky
Deekay
Same for me! Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday are good for me as well.

codemonkey
Hi,

I'd like to join if that's ok. Tuesdays would be my preference.
Genie
@ codemonkey: you're more than welcome, we'll be glad to have you join.

@ all: Looks like Tuesday is the best date, say about 20:00-ish? I'll put up a proper thread later on today, and spread the word.

So in the meantime:

Tuesday, 19.7.05, 20:00 at my place, Drachenseestraße 12a.
On the map
By public transportation: U-6, get off at Harras, walk up west on Albert-Roßhaupterstraße and take a right at Drachenseestraße, cross one street and on the second corner it's the white building with the round staircase to your left. Ring by Elyada, second floor.

Please bring:

Stuff (photos) you want to show and talk about. If in digital media please bring it either on a laptop or on some kind of easily accessible removable media (USB stick, CD, whatever). If you can make it with a laptop, please do.
Contemplation
Hi!

I am a beginner, apart from all the photos I have taken in my travels over the past few years and would like to take part in this group if no-one objects. I have an SLR and a little digital camera. I also have a laptop I can bring, but am not sure how good or fast it will be.

I would also be interested in some day trips for taking photographs.

Regards,
Marcia

Hi Genie,

Hi My name is Sherry and I am new to Munich. I am a photographer (fine art) and looking for a group to talk about image making, making images and inspiration. I also would like to find a darkroom to print black and white. I do not speak any German. Any ideas or groups available please let me know. I have lot's of free time and need something creative to get envolved with to keep me from getting homesick. biggrin.gif
Thanks Sherry

@Contemplation, AndyR, fotogirl:

Hi I am not sure if I will make it tonight. I do not know the ubahn well enough. I mostly walk or ride my bike and today it is raining. I found the meeting point on a map which is quite a bit south from where i am. I am right around the corner from the Deutches Museum and near the Isar river.
I still interested in meeting and also checking out the darkroom. I may need some help or better weather to give me time on my feet to figure out how to get around. Please let me know what you think. Also I wonder if it is easier to have phone or direct email contact?

Nice to meet everyone. I really enjoyed last night and I think there is a lot of common interest. Although next time I will bring prints - I think laptops are too restrictive (only 1 or 2 can see at a time).

Genie thanks for hosting and thanks to Deekay for the lift.

hi,

it was great to meet everyone on tuesday.

thank you very much genie for being such a generous host.

fyi there are two photo exhibitions at the haus der kunst. one is robert adams, the other paul mccarthy. i plan to go with my friend tayama friday evening (around 4 or 5) to the paul mccarthy one, if anyone's interested.

Hi everybody,
sorry for late notice: just want to re-confirm that our next meeting will be at my place. Details are as follow:
Erzgießereistraße 39 - take the U1/U7 direction OEZ and stop at Stiglmaierplatz (it´s only 1 stop afer Hauptbahnhof). Take the exit "Sandstraße" and walk down the Sandstraße. Take the 2nd street on the left called "Kreitmeystraße" then 1st street on the right will be Erzgießereistr. Number 39 is then only 50m away. Altogher it´s only 5-8min from the U-Bahn. Ring at "Kettel/Kol".
I am sorry, I cannot make it earlier than 8pm as requested last time by some because it´s going to be my second day at work and it´s quite far and I don´t know how early/late I´ll be able to leave.

Topics:
- please bring again material to discuss (pictures, ideas, projects, cameras, etc).
- I should have my laptop, iBook and desktop so you don´t need to bring computers smile.gif
- we would like to discuss/decide our next project/outing/photo session
- Genie gave me some very nice inputs about setting up some kind of regular workshop
- Website?
- Anything else you might think of.

I am sorry, but please stay tuned beginning of next week in case anything happens with work (you know what it´s like when you start a new job...). So far 8pm my place sounds feasible but it could also be 8:30pm...I don´t want you to stand in front of my door waiting for me wink.gif I´ll keep you updated if anything changes.

See you guys soon!

DK
Genie
Fantastic, I'm going to be there.

People who want to have their images discussed, please try and bring prints, this turned out to be much better than sitting on a computer where only two, max three people at a time could see the screen. Would be best to select 5-10 or whatever number of prints that could really be focused on rather than showing a lot of images without selection. Bring out your best!

See ya there,

Y.
mels
hi all,

are you still open for new members? i would love to join for the next meeting (i didn't see a date posted). i am interested in b&w film shooting and processing, and digital photography as well (but i don't have a fancy digital camera). I am interested in learning more about my light meter (any experts out there?) and messing around with exp. methods... pinhole photography, old cameras (i've got an old med. format that i've yet to try out) etc...

thanks all-

melanie
Genie
You are definatley welcome to join our group! We have absolutely no limits on accepting newcomers - the more, the merrier!

The date for the next meeting is this coming Tuesday, 2nd of August.

See you there,

Y.
Deekay
@Genie: wow, wow, wow, I would not put it that way wink.gif I have only limited amount of space in my humble home so I would appreciate if we could keep it under 50 participants rolleyes.gif
Just kidding of course (we´re not there yet!). Newcomers are most definitely welcome! Just bring some material (old camera, prints, etc) and some passion for photography.
Ok, so see you at my place on coming Tuesday (2nd August) 8pm.

Genie
Heh... sorry blink.gif, I meant that basically the club is open for newcomers and we're not getting into kicking people out.
