So, here we go:
We'll be holding a meeting this evening at the Ratskeller, to discuss how we move ahead and what our meetings are going to look like. We'll meet at the entrance to the Ratskeller from
Marienplatz (under the
Rathaus) at 20:00.
If anyone is interested, we'll also pay a visit beforehand to the new Lumas gallery at
Odeonsplatz, to take a look at their "Light and Shadows - Photography without a Camera" exhibition, at 18:30, and head on from there to the
Ratskeller. Details can be found in
Pinky's post, and on
The gallery's website.
See you there!

Hey Genie,
sorry about being a pain in the *** but
Ratskeller seems to me an odd place for fun discussions...Let´s have our meeting somewhere fun!! I will look for something and make a proposal after lunch. Don´t think there will be so many people so we can go for a café or a nice bar...What do you think?

Nov 22 2005, 12:22 pm
i think Genie took my suggestion from last time about the
Ratskeller - and the only reason i chose it is cause it's big and quiet and many people can walk in without reserving before hand and find a table. and it wasn't far away from the lumas gallery.
but i'm totally not fixed on that - would gladly go somewhere else. can you let us know where? will join you guys later around 20:30 or so cause tonight i've class near the
Hauptbahnhof till 20:00.
and i like the idea of holding meetings if there are at least 3 people...that's a good suggestion. shoud we make that a rule then? as soon as there are 3 people the meeting will be held, no matter what? that would make moving forward a lot easier.
so see you guys later then?

No problem at all Dee, I was just waiting for some feedback, and since it's already becoming late, and I know that at least Marcia won't be having access to internet all the time, I wanted to post as quick as possible.
I don't mind at all where to meet, but please post ASAP so we won't miss anyone.

Hi Dee, I'm really sorry for being so late. I should have called you earlier to let you know that I'm on the way, but I didn't take your phone number with me.
I got out of work today totally stressed and last-minute because of an experiment that was going well. Fortunately I made it on time to the gallery, but with all the haste I forgot to take the address and map of the
Eisbach cafe (and your number, for that matter).
I got lost looking for the place around
Odeonsplatz after I was done with the gallery, then went down to
Karlsplatz to get into an internet cafe where I could get the address, then headed over. This business took a whole lot of time, so I got there at about half-past, then met Mel there. She was having some trouble finding the place, which I guess was why she was late.
I tried to call you up once I got your number from the cafe, but there was no answer. Anyways, I'm really really sorry, I don't like waiting alone in cafes as well, but honestly, this was just a bad timing thing. I think Mel will post the summary of what we talked about and decided. We really missed you and the others there tonight.

hi guys,
i didnt show up cause i talked to dee and he said no one came, but that's alright - all a misunderstanding.
but perhaps for the next meeting - esp. if it's going to take place outside and not in someone's apt, we should all have at least 2 people's mobile numbers saved in our mobiles just in case... so there'd be better communication.
would be interested in what you discussed last night.

Helleu!
New in Munich, would like to join your photography club. I attended a photography course earlier (black and white, analogue). A fun evening out could be to meet up somewhere for night photography - just make pictures for an hour or so in the streets and then meet afterwards in a pub to warm up with drinks and discuss some pics. Whatdya think?

Nov 29 2005, 4:46 pm
Hi leila,
Great to see you're interested in the phtography club. We try to get together every second week on Tuesday to talk photography, share interesting things and plan outings of sorts. We've also started running
a club Web site to display and share our photos, you're welcome to look in there as well. Our next planned meetings are:
Saturday, Dec. 3: Photo outing at the Christkindlmarkt, maybe moving on to
Viktualienmarkt. We'll meet at 11:00 in front of the
Kaufhof at
Marienplatz.
Tuesday, Dec. 6: Next Photophile meeting. Tentative location (i.e. open to further suggestions): the
Twisted Bavarian, at 20:00. You can check out the
forum on the photography club site, and sign up if you're planning to show up and have a something you'd like to present.
Also, if you want to join the mailing list, please PM me with your e-mail.
Welcome aboard!

Night-time shots at Donnesburgerbruke - Wednesday 14th December
Next Photoclub outing, night photography outside near the Donnesburgerbruke S bahn station. We're aiming for some tripod mounted long exposures of car lights and atmospheric shots of the city skyline, all with the Mercedes advent calender for a backdrop. If the weather is really bad we'll cancel on the morning by a post here and an email to the list.
Meeting at 8pm on the S-bahn platform, next to the escalators. Post if you plan to be there - and wrap up warm!

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it on account of visitors we have here, but if anybody else is interested, I think there should be no problem to go through with this meeting.

Hi everyone and happy new year!
Unfortunately the pre-Christmas meeting didn't go through in the end on account of most people being away/engaged, but now most people are back and we'd be happy to get together for a meeting again.
Our usual Tuesday schedule was a bit difficult for some this week, so we'll be holding it
Thursday, 20:30 at the Twisted Bavarian. In the program: Some photos from Zee Wedding, some photoshop tricks to save the out-of-focus shot, a bit about workflow and some deliberations about posting galleries on websites.
Newcomers are welcome of course, and if you have something you'd like to show or discuss, bring your material on some portable medium (USB, CD, laptop) and drop a line what you're going to talk about.
Take your time to
check the forum and if you feel like it, sign up for Thursday...
See you there!

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention: we're trying to put together a portrait workshop to improve our portrait techniques and to get some nice people shoots in non-pressure circumstances.
The idea is to spend a day in the weekend at somebody's well-lit place, then practice shooting portraits on each other. For those with digital cameras, we could even do some on-the-site feedback to see how things could be improved. We might consider renting some equipment (umbrellas, flashes, backgrounds) as well.
Genie
Jan 17 2006, 2:23 am
Hi everyone,
a few of us got together on Thursday at the Twisted Bavarian, and among other things we discussed the portrait workshop we were thinking of putting together. Again, the idea is to get together, enough photographers and enough "models" (i.e. ourselves) to practice portrait photography and have some fun

. We decided on the Saturday, 11th of February as a tentative date, and Mel offered her apartment as our studio.
We also talked about renting equipment, and I looked at
Foto-Dinkel as a possibility, but this is open to discussion and depends on how many people are planning on participating, what things we want to get (and whether we do at all), and how much are we willing to shell out for it. I was thinking something in the region of 10 EUR each, and considering the set of 3 400 Ws heads + diffusers they offer there, plus maybe backround props and a reflector or two if we have a sunny day and would like to go outside as well. Tripods are something to consider (possibly share?), as are light meters and whatever else you think would be useful.
This way we could have some people working with the studio lights, some with natural light and their own equipment, and others doing sunlight outdoors. Of course we could change locations if we get tired of one place, things are basically completely free and flexible.
So, please let me know if you'd like to join in, so we could start setting things up. I also suggest we meet a week or so in advance to finalize all the technicalities and also to pool some of our knowledge before we actually get hands-on with the hardware. I find myself very lacking in everything that comes to portraits, and I think I would benefit very much in terms of learning if we talk s bit about the theory before we start shooting away.
Cheers and hope to see you at the workshop,
Yishai

Howdy folks,
I just joined the TT community recently... so I'm basically still browsing around forums, to get an impression on what's going on here.
I noticed this topic this morning, so I thought about giving it a try and asking if there's room for additional people in the photo club.
I would also appreciate if one of the veterans could give me some inside information on what has been going on in the photo club until now, what do you people usually do, etc.
I'm becoming more and more involved in photography (you can view some of my latest pictures on my web site, rbrusu.com), so I'm thinking that it could be quite fun to meet other people interested in this area, exchange ideas, etc.
Thanks in advance,
Radu.

@ pinky - the dates are completely tentative at the moment, if there's a better date for more people, we'll go for it. Post the dates you're good with so we could try and juggle this to the best of everyone.
@ Blundstoner - one of our club participants recommended
this online service if you're printing digitals. I saw some prints and they're really good, just take care with the color balancing on your monitor before you send (this goes for digital prints in any case).
If you're printing negatives, they take as well, although some photographers aren't willing to take those risks with originals. Brick-and-mortar services in town include
Sauter near
Sendlinger Tor, which have a variety of quality and price ranges. I did some prints with them at the medium-quality (~0.75 cents for 13x18cm) and was quite satisfied with the results. For top-range professional super-duper sell-your-car-to-afford prints, try
Foto Dinkel. I haven't seen any of their prints, but if their quality is serious as their prices are (~ 3.5 EUR for a 13x18 if I recall correctly), then they should be fantastic for that one print you want to put on your desk or give your mom as a present. There are probably other services that I'm not aware of, though, I'm not a native either

.
@ Radu - your photos are amazing! I love the tones, the lighting, the perspective... these have got to be some of the best shots I've seen of Munich. Kudos!
About joining with our merry lot, as with any newcomer, you are more than welcome. Especially with that sort of talent. We meet about once a monthish at someone's place or at a nice cafe or pub to talk, share experiences and photos. This is the thread where we coordinate the meetings, and there is also a mailing list. Just PM me with your mail and I'll add you to the list. Welcome aboard, and I hope you enjoy!

They do high quality prints.

Hi everybody,
we haven´t heard from the Photo club in a very long time...I was just curious to know if there was still something going on, if the silence was due to the winter break or if that project just went hibernating...
As far as I´m concerned I know that i have not been really available due to some vacations and business trips but i would really like to know if there are still people out there interested in re-launching the photo club. Spring is coming back and the cameras can finally get out of their camera bags again.
My feeling is that the photo club model as it existed didn´t really work out so it´d be nice to hear other members opinions and maybe try to start on a new basis. I know I´m still motivated!
So, what do you think?

I am always interested in photography, in fact it takes up a good half of my personal website. But as I prefer Landscape and Nature photography I tend not to want to traipse through the countryside in hoardes looking for "that perfect shot".
So, I could be interested, but would like more info on what things are planned for this club?
Is it to get together to talk about photography, or to actually be out on 'shoots' together?
WH
Jazeroo

Yeah...I'd like to know...is it going out on shoots together or sitting aournd and chatting about pics?
Deekay
Mar 28 2006, 9:02 pm
I think the mistake we all made in the past was to focus the meetings too much on "talking about pics" as opposed to go out there and take the pics. This is only my personal opinion, the other members might disagree with me.
I think it would be much more interesting to meet around themes and actually take pictures, with maybe the opportunity to exchange tips, ideas and such. After a shoot it is still possible to sit down, have a drink and talk about it, but the main part should still be taking the pics.
As the sun is coming back, I want to spend more time outside with my camera and capture that "world through my eyes". What i missed the most from past meetings was actually using my camera.
So, at the end of the day, if you are interested in taking pics, sharing your ideas, techniques, etc and if you are really willing to invest some time (not a lot, but a minimum should be required) to get with other people sharing the same passion, I am sure we can find something to do!
to pjoyce: i took my smugmug account offline as i am working on my personal/more professional website. I bought my own domain name and I am now working on some content for my photographs. I will be back online with some brand new stuff soon and can share the link with you again if you are interested
