I woke up, saw the rain and just went back to sleep...

Hope you enjoyed it. I guess I'll take a shot at that location sometime when the weather is nicer.

Hi everyone,
How was the Church visit? Any nice things to show? Was the lighting OK? Did you get a photo of the Almighty?

Are we having a meeting this Tuesday? People mentioned something about meeting up outside somewhere. Any ideas for a place? Nice and quiet where we could enjoy a beer or two but still could have a conversation without shouting?
My suggestion would be the back rooms at the
Twisted Bavarian, but as Ben said last time, we might have some problems with people chumming in just to have a drink. I personally don't have much of a problem with that, seeing as people looking for this could be discouraged before they settle down, and otherwise would be pretty bored after a few minutes and probably go away.
If this doesn't work, we could still hold it this week at my place and look for another place next time.

Yep, it was cool. weather wasn´t great, but light was okay. could have been better, but at least we did it

some of my pictures can already been seen on our site
hereMel, Marcia, you can upload your pics in the same gallery. If you encounter problems, just let me know and I can guide you through the process (should be pretty much straight forward).
As for next week, I am open for suggestions as well, although I don´t really know how we are going to present our stuff. Someone will have to bring a laptop.
Maybe we should first check who is coming before we can make a final decision?
I´m in!

I'm certainly free Tuesday. I've had some, er, limited success finding things for the photo hunt, but generally getting exasperated! It would be great to get some feedback. I'll post the pictures in gallery beforehand.
Happy to bring my laptop along if it would help. Dory would probably turn the lights down for us if Mel wanted to bring her projector.

hey guys,
I've a suggestion for next week's meeting, if anyone's interested.
There's a new photo gallery on Brienner Strasse right by Odeonsplatz called Lumas.
They've got really interesting images from up and coming photographers. Maybe we could go there before it closes at 20:00 and then move on from there to a meeting place... If we still want to hold the meeting in a public place, that is. There are a lot of places to go near by such as
Eisbach, Cafe Kunsthalle, Tambosi, Cafe Dukatz (Literaturhaus), Vapiano, and dozens of other ones...
LUMAS Editionsgalerie München
Brienner Straße 3 – am
Odeonsplatz Opening hours: Monday - Friday 10:00 - 20:00 , Saturday 10:00 - 19:00, Sunday 13:00 - 18:00
Tel. (0 89) 25 54 88 30
http://www.lumas.de/index.php?id=622 (in German. There's an English language version but it's for the UK and Ireland only)
Cheers,

Nov 14 2005, 5:46 pm
hey,
are we still meeting tomorrow night then? or is it tonight?
am a bit confused by it all...
if we're meeting tomorrow - then afterwards i can suggest going to the
Ratskeller afterwards at
Marienplatz.
the reason being that i don't know how many people are coming and it's the one place that can accomodate so many people at the last minute without it being a big problem. and it's quiet enough / have enough space that we can talk.
the other place would be vapiano - but that's quite busy and i've had problems getting a table before... so can't guarantee space. and it's quite busy.
so, meeting tomorrow night then?

I would like to attend, will be a first timer though and won't know anyone.
Only want to gather more technique tips and how better to compose my pictures, and learn more I guess. So if you all willing, I'd like to come along. I don't have a fab camera like I am guessing the rest of you have, trying to sell my 35mm SLR because I want to put it towards a Nikon digital one, so I just make my pictures with my trusty Sony T1.
Time, place? Just post it hear and I shall keep an eye on it.

kind of a novist and have a few questions for the pros.
1. Do you prefer film to digital cameras? Why?
I like my digital camera, but it is obviously limited on its zoom capabilities. However, I know there are several functions that can be utilized such as panoramic ect that when matched with a digital pic is nice to have. The most obvious advantage is that if you dont have the right light or what have you, you dont have to wait for the pic to be developed to find out that it was not a good shot.
2. Any photographer friendly recommendations for a digital camera/accessories to take more than the family reunion pics?
thanks for the info.

Hi Guys,
What is happening with the photography club? I am getting a bit frustrated booking in nights/days that we plan, then to find when I get home and check my email that the event is cancelled 1/2 an hour before I am about to leave. I am usually unable to get on the net at work, so don't respond and was very disappointed that last week was cancelled. I understand that people cannot make it for various reasons, but that doesn't mean the event has to be cancelled. I say, that we always commit to the event and if individual people cannot make it, that is fine, but those that really want this club and their photography skills to evolve, then it goes ahead anyway. Does anyone have any ideas as to how we can really get this going? Although I have not done this before, if one other person is interested and really committed, I would be happy to form a mini committee that plans a photography programme and really gets it up and going. Let me know what you think.
Marcia
PS As I don't know the history of how the group started I hope I have not stepped on anyone's toes :-/
Genie
Nov 21 2005, 9:44 pm
Hi Everyone,
I think Marcia has a good point, we seem to be too light on the cancel button. I don't mind holding meetings with few participants, and on a more regular basis. It's true, most of the people here have tight schedules and somtimes they just can't show up, but this should not halt the progress of the club.
That said, if we're going to hold meetings with 3-4 people, there will have to be some meat to them. I think most of the administrative matters are behind us, so we can now dedicate most of the meetings' time to photography stuff neto.
As I see it, we could do this in one of two ways: the first is that each person comes up for each meeting with a little something she prepared. Something for about 20 minutes or so, that she will show us, tell us or share with us. This could be showing and discussing his or someone else's photos, researching some technique or technicality that could be useful and sharing his conclusions with us, maybe a book review, whatever. The other possibility is that one person will be responsible for each meeting.
Personally I prefer the former, because it makes for more diversity and personal expression. We could, just to make things a bit more orderly, have the people that are coming to a meeting post their themes before the meeting, so we know more or less what's coming up.
As for tomorrow, I guess it would be a good idea to go on with the meeting and hold it as planned for last week, e.g. 18:30 at the gallery, then off to some place to sauf and talk photography. What do you all say? Please post what you think both about tomorrow's meeting and about the whole cancellation/postponement issue.

When is this Photography Club going to meet, I also getting frustrated ... I have just made my website which has a few pics on it, am trying to get the jscript working on it though so you can read the text that goes with the pictures ... I'd really like some feedback on my technique and composition and that was my sole purpose in joining. Well have a look at it if any of you get the chance, I would appreciate feedback.

My suggestion: let´s meet tonight in a bar/café to talk about structure and organization. My feeling is also that we are wasting a lot of time/energy in cancelling/postponing/procrastinating. Is it a question of motivation? Commitment? Interest? I think we should address those issues if we want to move forward. Personnally, I don´t want to carry on like that as it is going nowhere...
Let´s put the cameras down for tonight and talk about how we can really create some excitement around the club and make people really want to participate.
Anybody can suggest a nice place, café, bar or whatever where we could just sit and talk?
My 2 cents worth...

Sounds fine, Dee. I still want to take a look at the gallery before, so why don't we meet, say, at the
Ratskeller (or wherever) at 20:00, and if anyone wants to meet at the gallery before, we could meet there at 18:30 and then continue on to meet the others at 20:00.
