I'm flying to the states tomorrow with Iberia Airlines and I'm getting kinda nervous because I haven't heard many good things about them yet... anyone ever flown with them before?
Do they have monitors for every seat where u can select like 5 different movies? or just one monitor w/ one movie?
I think I flew Iberia to Santiago de Compostello in Spain, it was fine -nothing sticks out in memory - but it wasnt a very long flight.

They fly just above sea level - very entertaining skimming the waves when the pilots are having their siestas. Spanish autopilots also do siestas.

I flew to the Canaries with Iberia and had no problems. Typical national carrier. Dunno about the monitors, think it was 1 per couple of rows, but that would be different on the transatlantic flights anyway.

Flew to lisbon from Munich, and they lost my luggage. They took it to my hotel the next day, but it was all as clear as mud what was going on.

Flew to Buenos Aires from Madrid - they are complete and utter SHITE - crappy seats - ignorant staff - RATIONED water on an 11 hour flight - will never fly with them again. On long flights its better to pay a little more and not arrive with your back thrown out and massively dehydrated - I brought 5 litres of water with me for the return flight and drank every drop.

I flew with them from Amsterdam to Alicante. No complaints. The only airline I would not recommend is Cubana Airline

I've flown with them a couple of times to Malaga through Madrid & Barcelona. Had a few problems with cancelled flights due to rescheduling but that was because I'd booked my flights about 6 months in advance and these things happen. Apart from that no complaints. They're not a huge airline but get the job done.

If you're flying out of Munich, have a look at
the departures page and find your flight.
On the rigfht-hand side of the listing is a column for "Type" which indicates the aircraft. Click that and it'll tell you what you need to know about the plane in question.

I'm flying to JFK through madrid so short haul and long I guess. I checked our itinerary and it just has the flight number, no info about the plane.

flew with them at the weekend and they were fine - no free food or drinks on short haul flights though so you have to pay for everything on board but not sure about long haul...

ok Iberia is the worst I've ever flown... took off from jfk 4hours late..missed connection in madrid and had to sit in that shitty airport for 7 friggin hours. In jfk they atleast gave us 2 $12 vouchers but in Madrid all they gave us was a meal voucher for some 'restaurant' that only had a seafood buffet...sux if you don't like seafood (like us). Another thing that sux about them is that they just let u sit around waiting and wondering why you're not taking off. There was a flight to london at the gate next to us and every 5 minutes BA would make an announcmenet saying why they are not boarding yet..nothing from Iberia though. And its the only flight I've been on in quite awhile that didn't have monitors in the headrests. Anyway..point is that if at all possible I'll avoid flying with them again.

I Flew Iberia from London-Buenos AIres Via Madrid
WHAT A NIGHTMARE
Was the worst flight I ever took.
They could not even sit my wife and I together from MAdrid-Buenos Aireseven though we had checked in 4 hours before the flight was due to leave!
Will never fly them again!

FLown with them twice, Munich to Teneriffe, actually a fairly long way but still "European".
FABULOUS Alpine views as you head to Spain from Munich!
You have to pay for ALL food and drink which they say keeps the fares down.
Bollocks, it does not.
They showed CONSTANT TV of "gag" shows (I mean comedy sketches) that stopped being funny about the time we reached the end of the runway on take off.
Changing at Madrid is OK.
On the return flight I did what I NEVER usually do and called to re-confirm.
They had moved my flight to another airport at a time where I COULD NOT POSSIBLY get to the airport.
I told them flat they HAD to get me onto a flight that I could catch which they did but it was a 0230 red eye departure.
Some good eye candy on the trolly dolly front. thinkk Enrique but more butch.

Do you have the number? My boss has been bumped and is going ballistic. The only number at Madrid airport spoke Spanish only.

Iberia desk +34 902 40 0500
MAD Airport Guide but you might want to contact their Germany after sales service on 0 1805 44 29 00, have you tried +34 902 400 433? It might work and they definitely have English speakers.

Thank you so much. And never fly with these bozos!
edit: Jebus and a half, that number is only for flights which have been paid with Iberia Plus points! I have been on hold for customer service for 3 minutes now with upbeat Spanish music and have to report to my boss when he lands in an hour.

Jan 31 2006, 11:45 am
So he got bumped over to another flight? What is he expecting they will do about it? He will get the standard Customer Service garbage, you will write a letter of complaint and Iberia will send you travel vouchers.
sarabyrd
Jan 31 2006, 11:53 am
He got bumped off Business (fully paid) to Economy and off the Business waiting list. The number I finally received from Customer Service is invalid and I can't get through on the one from Katrina. Growl.
Crawlie
Jan 31 2006, 11:56 am
So he got put in economy but still got the flight? Oh OK. So he will get back the difference or even the whole ticket price. Did they at least give him a hot towel?
I do sometimes wonder how airlines think they can get away with this though. Unbelievable
MonksTown
Jan 31 2006, 12:11 pm
Sorry, no longer have the number, you might need to be in Spain to call it anyway as it was a toll free one I think. If your boss was bumped but got on the next flgiht at least he's getting there.
Bumping someone out of business who has a fully fare ticket is VERY weird.
I don't think it is going to be much use now to contact the staff at Madrid Airport fro the story / apology.
Contact Iberia in Germany with ALL the details. They should refund the price difference as MONEY, not vouchers, pay out MONEY if the EU standards on bumping and delays were broken and at their goodwill offer some compensation.

Close any shortcuts you have open on the left of your screen, or scroll to the right of the page. And there, in very light gray, you will find "English". Works for me any time. Or change your country of origin.
Anyway, everyone at Iberia was so un-helpful that I feel justified in my opinion of anyone who works there. Bozo³. Unhappy end: Boss missed the original flight due to a delay on his Iberia carrier flight and will re-schedule it.
MonksTown
Jan 31 2006, 1:16 pm
So an Iberia delay caused him to miss a connection rather than him actually getting bumped off a flight?
Crawlie
Jan 31 2006, 1:17 pm
So he missed his original flight due to an Iberia partner being delayed? And he did not get a business class seat on the next plane because they were full up in business class or not? Seems there is more than meets the eye here.
Similar thing happened to me. I was on business class and missed a connection due to delays. Got put on the following flight but no spaces for business class (first come first served unfortunately). Anyway, got compensation in the form of travel vouchers and a standard apology so would be interested to know what your boss gets.

Jan 31 2006, 1:28 pm
He got "moved" off the Iberia flight today to the same Iberia flight tomorrow because he missed gate time due to an Iberia flight being late. I didn't bother asking if he would have had a Business seat tomorrow, he's taking a different route now.

So that's the trick.. you have to click English first. Because if you go on iberia.com to country of origin and pick Alemania, the departure cities change, but not the language. But if you click on English and then scroll to Germany, it's in German.
Pretty dumb though.. not everyone knows Germany is Alemania in Spanish. I booked a whole ticket online in Spanish. Knew most of the words, good thing enough, cause it worked out.

Jan 31 2006, 1:32 pm
Ah. I see. So he missed his flight home due to the connecting flight being delayed. So what exactly is his problem? Does he suspect some kind of conspiracy theory or something? I am guessing he is German right?

I understand the frustration if it was all Iberia's fault. But there comes a point where they can't allow any more passengers to join a plane, it has to leave.
Cos there's some guy on there ready to phone the police that he's being held illegally captive and cause a major security alert if the plane isn't away on time...

Jan 31 2006, 9:54 pm
To get this straight: All flights were Iberia. He had a confirmed Business Class ticket for today's flight. At check-in he was informed that Business Class was overbooked, he got bumped down to Economy. The flight to Madrid was late, so he missed gate-time. Iberia booked him for tomorrow. When he got to Madrid, his other plane was still hooked up to the terminal with the gate open. He was denied access on grounds that his reservation was confirmed for tomorrow. I don't think you have to be German to resent this mierde de toro which Iberia was heaping up. To quote Cousin Avi in Snatch "Anything to declare? Yeah, don't fly Iberia."

Munich - São Paulo via Madrid. As Economy was pretty disgusting: absent staff, no support (I got my working earphones on the Equator), self service if thirsty. (Coming back a hostess stepped on my gf's glasses broking them) Madrid - Munich in Business was like a normal company offers their flights. But absolutely cheap.

AAAAARRRRRRGH! They did it again!
I booked a flight on 8/18/06, recieved confirmation and wanted to change it today.
IB: - The flight was cancelled, I don't know how.
me: - This was a confirmed flight.
IB: - No, you booked over internet, not by telephone. Over internet you receive two e-mails, first a confirmation of reservation, then after you give the credit card details a confirmation of booking.
me: - The credit card details are on the confirmation e-mail I received from Iberia. The booking status says "confirmed".
IB: - I dunno why it look like that. I dunno how the e-mails work.
me: - So you work for the booking department but don't know how it works. Tell your IT department that they are crap.
IB: - You must book by telephone, then this thing don't happen.
me: - Yeah, you also get more money that way due to differences in prices. I will book another flight through a different airline.
I just so don't believe that this airline is still around ...

NEVER EVER would I fly with Iberia again! Their service is atrocious, the planes are old and never run on time. They have lost my luggage twice.
I even let the return part of flight from South America lapse, as I didn't want to fly with them - never have done since!
