Hi
does someone have a good recipe for a baked cheesecake (i.e. not the "stick-some-Philadelphia-on-top-of-mashed-up-biscuits-and-stick-in-fridge" type)?
Lime would be good.
Total disregard for health or calories mind.
Katrina
PS if possible, with convertible measurements (cups I can do, once sticks are mentioned, I'm lost) Ta

She was quicker than you bb - she's pm'd me already!

Usually I just go to Muffins and More (Volkartstr.) as their Laporaig whisky cheesecake is quite frankly not *jugendfrei*, but I fancied having a go.

i can vouch for all the recipes below as i have made them each at least once.
here's a great
traditional new york style cheescake.
this
toffee caramel crunch cheesecake had them begging for more when i made it this winter.
bourbon pumpkin cheesecake is great at thanksgiving, and during autumn.
lemon ginger cheesecake is nice at this time of year.
thanks bb for the compliment! not the fast part, though you do have a point there!

I'm printing these off as I tap.

I'm sure a few guys out there would beg to differ or at least say it's not as satisfying and makes them feel just as guilty afterwards.

Never feel guilty over food porn or bike porn or even porn porn, but there have been a few slices of cheesecake that I have left untouched, to my regret.
All in my past.

Katrina
Jun 16 2005, 1:34 pm
hahhahahaha wee mun
you can buy it a mere 75 meters from your flat!
a whole shop of it
and bagels and muffins and 45 types of whisky in muffins and more, volkartstr. (i.e. virtually opposite Pardi's, but it is 2-3€ a big slice

)
and I have 2 (packs of) ginger nuts at home

the little asian store in Leonrodstr. (top of Frundsbergstr.) sells them (and PG Tips, Marmite, Pataks...)
for mcvitie's digestives, go to
Hertie at HBF

Katrina
Jun 16 2005, 1:43 pm
well the new york cheesecake does say ok to ginger snaps
and I thought I'd put zest of lime in instead of the orange
what do you think?
it say 5 8oz packages = 5 x 225g packs, right?
GOD BLESS DELIA!

potterstreet's recipe has written at the bottom: "Cheesecake keeps, covered and chilled, 2 weeks"
yeah right
butterbean
Jun 16 2005, 3:42 pm
that only applies if you happen to be going on vacation for 2 weeks right after you make it, and neglect to put it in your suitcase...
anyone that can keep a cheesecake for two weeks doesn't deserve to have one. FACT.

Well the New York Cheesecake tasted lovely. Unfortunately it fell over in my fridge which is why only me and Mr Bigfoot got to taste it...
Did have trouble with the stick business (this butter measurement doesn't make sense to me and I got confused between measurements) so the base was a bit too buttery and the cheesy bit needed longer in my oven but the sugar content and taste were spot-on.
Many thanks to potterstreet for the recipe (and yes, I'll have another go soon and some of you might even be so lucky to get some next time!)

for the future, here's a nifty
butter conversion link, which i use all the time!
but the question that begs to be asked is how the hell it fell over in your fridge?
Katrina
Jun 20 2005, 9:38 am
It has been suggested that someone's *big foot* booted the fridge so it fell over (so that they could have it all to themselves) but that would be just a rumour...

Hi Katrina,
Are you looking for cheesecakes made with Philadelphia or Mascapone?
I have recipes for both but will have to get them sent over from UK!
Rus
Katrina
Jun 27 2005, 1:10 pm
Either or, Rus! I like both and UK measurements would be helpful
Ok No Worries
However although Graham Crackers are good I would suggest Hob Nobs as the base

Oh Mistress of Knowledge, Fembotest Being, I call on thee to share with me! Where can I purchase ginger cookies?
Katrina
Jul 4 2005, 12:34 pm

These? Well I can think of a few places - I tend to buy mine at the little Asia/Thai shop in Leonrodstr. Neuhausen as it is 75m from my flat

A lot of the Asian/Thai shops stock them, those and no other biccy. hmmm
Also worth a look is the Indian shop in Hauptbahnhof opposite Hertie foodhall entrance. They also have Digestives and light and dark chocolate HobNobs.
The first shop I mentioned used to (and doesn't now) stock
so I'm looking for a supplier coz they are my faves.

Hertie does Walker's Stem Ginger Shortbread as well (the gent formerly known as Herr Indoors' mum loves ginger so I would buy any biscuit with it in for her)

Ah, Indian stores! Never looked for cookies in an Indian store. Thanks!
