Commuting to Munich from elsewhere in Bavaria

...moving to the styx

I know there are a few folks here who do serious commutes into Munich and would love to hear some experiences. The better half has just secured a job but unfortunately it could mean a move for me out into the satellites. The job will be in one of 2 places: Marktoberdorf or Wasserburg. Considering either a move to Wasserburg or somewhere between Marktoberdorf and Munich, like Landsberg or summat. They are generally about 1 hour on the train and similar times driving.

And I thought my 40 min journey by bus and then U-Bahn was bad!

Whoops I mean 1 hour on the train OR 1 hour driving.

Well I live 15 klicks North of Landsberg and its...pretty damn quiet!

That said accommodation is cheap, we have a 4 storey 150 sq metre house for about 750 euros a month. No queues and no traffic etc. It's about 15 minutes in the car to Augsburg which is very nice, but getting down the pub is tricky.

That said I have discovered a pub 2kms up the road that looks good so that could become a potential haunt. Getting into Munich is pretty slow from here. Took me 1 hr 30 mins door to door to Murphys the other night and the trains don't run late enough on the return trip.

I suspect actually living in Landsberg itself will be better of course 'cos it is a decent size. Population in my village is about 1800 I think!

My guess is that having lived in Munich you will find it a culture shock - hope you like watching TV.

Thanks for the info Johnny,
the Landsberg offer fell through, so it looks like Wasserburg for ol me. I hate TV and I will miss my DVD automat! Nice spot though.
