The IKEA in Eching was (supposed to be) open. All the other stores around too. I don't know if they were or not, but there was a huge full-page advertisement that they would be open in the weekly
Unterschleissheim newspaper. So, I doubt it was a joke.
IKEA Brunnthal - that I do not know about.

Why only 4.
Its a starnge country in 2007 that only lets them open so little. I think its all about the power of the state verses the freedom of companies to trade. The German state interfears far more in peoples lives than it should and labour in Britain is catching up.

You still dont seem to grasp Starbuck that if someone were to travel across Munich by s-bahn and bus etc to find that Ikea was in fact shut, that it would be less than funny?
One is allowed to play April fool pranks. The 1st of April is clearly stated on the announcement. I would be super suspicious of anything out of the ordinary on 1st April. Shops in Munich are all closed. And if someone caught me out on that day, then I would be thinking that was clever.

To err is human, to be that dumb truly takes a "special" person.

But you didn't actually make the joke on April the first did you?
And at least one Ikea was open on that day!
YOU are the fool!

Went to Ikea Eching on Sunday, spend a few hours wandering around trying to work out if we wanted a sofa from there or not, picked up my "Ikea family card" present, bought some dead cheap stuff from the fundgrube (they were stacking stuff up on pallets outside, and it was a free for all), and some picture frames.
...so I guess they were open!

God, this is painful. Read the post above, mmkay?
And how you'd find it funny to have misinformed and inconvenienced some random strangers on a website is beyond me. Honestly, folk get their kicks in the weirdest of ways.

Well I admit it, I went IKEA Brunnthal Sunday based on the information in this post. Figured I wasted 10€ in gas and dropped about 10kg of CO2 into the atmosphere using my friend´s SUV. Really clever. Haven´t been able to stop talking about it all week. So funny my sides hurt.

You know what, if I had bothered to read AstroRabbit's first post saying that they were open from 9-3, I could have set you all straight but telling you that IKEA in Eching was definitely going to be open - but only from 12-5 (that's what it said on the huge ad in the newspaper). Then I would have checked the Brunnthal schedule because I was once tricked into going to Eching when it was closed but the Brunnthal one was open.
But, yeah, AstroBobbitt, not very nice.

@TE610: Room for another? I too need to look at IKEA kitchens. I'm based Maxvorstadt/Schwabing. I can travel over to
Pasing S-Bahn station if that'll help, or we could arrange pick-up in Schwabing e.g.
Leopoldstr. or Barerstr. I'll PM you my mobile no.

I'm assuming Brunnthal will have it's summer opening soon. How early do they post that they will be open? I wasn't able to find any more information on their website.
Thanks!
Next Sunday opening is now on IKEA web site: both stores will be open Sunday the 14th of September, 12:00 - 17:00.
If anyone's thinking off going with a van & will be passing near
Ostbahnhof on the return, let me know. I have some bits to get & I'm happy to share transport costs.
