When is Munich carnival? (Fasching)

this website is so handy what a shame i took so long to find it, would've been very handy last october!

Question: when does the carnival thing start? I have mates coming over to visit in February but I'd hate for them to be leaving as soon as the thing is starting.

Well, technically from Nov 11th on it's Carnival, but the big whoopee party and end of Carnival/Fasching will be Tuesday, February 24th.

if my mates are here for the weekend before that will they still catch most of the craic? it'll be hard for them to get too many days off work. thanks anyway for getting back

I don't think Fasching is celebrated to its full extent in Bavaria. I think personally you'd need to be in Cologne or Düsseldorf to get any sort of whiff of the festival on the weekend before. But thats just me - perhaps there will be some Fasching parties at some of the clubs on the weekend, but I've never really seen them.

Yeah, my colleagues in Köln actually get a day and a half off during Fasching. Here in Bayern, its just a normal day, although there are some celebrations taking place !

Me is going over to Schwarzwald for Fasching weekend. Great fun to be had. I was there for it 2 years ago.
