How and where to meet people in Munich

Advice for newcomers to the city

Hi!

I've been living in Munich now for four months and I just came back from Brazil (XMAS vacation) willing and ready to get at least one of my New Year resolutions out of the list and into life. The first one is to live a life out of the office.

I’m starting to learn German now, and it still feels like I’m one of chimps in a Tarzan movie. So if anyone could give me some tips how I can meet some people naturally, I’ll be very happy!

You can meet people here, Halley. Come to one of the weekly get-togethers.

Thanks! Where do you guys go in the "weekly meetings"?

I just moved to Munich about 2 weeks ago from Lake Tahoe. I will be here for 10 months working at a Montessori school. I know no one and am giving this little forum a try to mingle. I see that people post meetings everyweek to meet and have a drink(s), concerts, events and/or coffee. I'm down to meet other English speakers since I know little to no German. I've never lived somewhere where I know no one and am left trying new ways of connecting and networking (i.e., the internet).

If there are any events that I should know about please contact me. I'm looking to see what this city has to offer. It would be wonderful to find places that have GOOD live music and a chill atmosphere. I'm not a club type of gal and Europe is all about that so I'm hoping to find some type of Aussie or Irish bar that provides something else.

Keep me posted and I look forward to meeting new people.

Jennifer

I just love it when Americans generalise.

the Calander of Events has a great variety to events to attend, newbies are always welcome to the Pub Quiz- they will find a team for you, Tuesday drinks, curry nights, hash house harriers, friday beergarten... walks, hikes, skiing (to come yet).
Whatever your fancy, there are others at the events with similar interests.
Welcome to Munich
