Hi Everyone

My husband and I together with our 2yr old daughter will be immigrating to Munich from South Africa soon and have no Clue where to start organising accommodation, work etc. I have a EU passport and he South African. Everything on our side is ok, but I do not know what to expect...and who to contact regarding arrangements on the other side. Does anyone have advice/help for me, please??

Thnx so much

Take all the words you can think of which might be related to the exercise. Immigration, Shipping, accommodation, etc and type them into the Search field on the top right hand side of the screen. Trawl through the various threads and you'll find answers to most, if not all, of your questions.

Here's a good search for example: moving to munich
More tea, Vicar?
Good luck Pixie.

There's a few Jaapies on the site. Munich is great but boy does it get cold. Search all your query words on the site.

Your questions have all been answered quite well, and you will get loads of good advice.

Totsiens!

Morning!

I've got some difficulty finding a website or something to help me look for jobs at the airport or travel/tourism industry. That's the field I'm in but all the jobs I find is mostly IT.(and I've got no clue about IT).

Do you have any idea where I can look? The airline websites aren't much help either.

Oh Yes and what is the Best town to stay in? I want to stay some place lively.(if thats possible)

Thnx! sad.gif

HI unsure.gif

What is reasonable rent to pay for a 2bedroom flat/loft which includes warm rent ?
Could you also give me an idea of what a months groceries would approx cost.(just an idea please)
And what is the average salary for a secretary or so?

I basically need to know how long EUR 18 000 will last for a family of 3?!

Thanx

Cold rent between 7 and 15 € per square meter. In the center, €10 per sq meter seems like a mimimum.

18,000 for a family of three? I certainly hope that's after taxes. It's gonna be pretty damn tight. I pay 985 warm for a two bedroom (three room) apartment out in the boondocks. That said, my apartment is pretty flash. My husband and I make a bit more than you, but my monthly debt payments are enough to bring it back down. The two of us barely squeak by.
boomtown_rat
18000 could last you about 7-8 months
Pixie
Thanx for the feedback.

My husband, daughter and I will be moving to Munich. The 18 000 is
what we will have extra above our monthly salary. Just in case of no jobs happenings, atleast we've got the 18 000 to drag us through.

Any recommendations as to which town to stay in, if we work at the airport?

For a family of 3 I would say 18,000 euros will give you a good 6 month cushion. More than that is probably a stretch IMO.

Well, technically speaking you could blow 18,000 euros in 10 minutes (I have seen watches more expensive that that around maximillian strasse wink.gif ). Not that you would do anything like that but just saying. smile.gif

Allow me to be the first to say good luck when you're over here. Tis really a great city to be in.

@pixie: when will you be arriving exactly? do either of you speak german? I'd recommend having a look in some of the local papers, especially:
sueddeutsche employment section
If you're both planning on working in the airport, it's quite a way out, you might want to consider living somewhere closer, ie freising, erding, ismanning, etc.
best of luck, it's a lovely place to live, but like anywhere it's quite tough in the beginning. There are also a lot of job agencies here, and while they pay pretty badly, they're a great way of getting into the workforce...

And don't forget to buy us all a beer or two when you get here - it's compulsory according to german law.
Pixie
Thanx guyz and Galz for your replies, It really makes it, I won't say easier but I am definetely more at ease.

Which of these suburbs would you choose?
Ismaning, Freising, Garching or Landshu...

Go for temp. furnished accommodation for the first few months (mrlodge.de)

Look for permanent accommodation only after you get a job.
Then you can look at the public transport available and decide only then where you want to stay. Jy wil nie heeldag in die trein/bus/tram sit nie... GLO MY!

No problem for your SA husband to work (if you have an EU passport). Get him a visitors visa in SA to enter Germany. He can get his permanent residence thingy in less than 10 minutes once he gets here. No problem. NB: Get an apostile for your wedding certificate. Although if he does not speak german, he has to do 6 months of compulsory German lessons.

See you when you get here.

Voorspoed!

PM me if you would like any other info. Ek help graag (as ek kan)

Melrose... smile.gif

How do you know so much...Thanks for the advise, it helps alot.

Would you say that we should first have a job before coming over or
is it easy enough to get a job once we're there?

It difficult getting a job from this side... sad.gif

what's your experience regarding this? wink.gif
boomtown_rat
Obviously it optimal to have a job before coming over but in my experience its a bit catch22. Its best to have a job before coming but difficult to do so (bit tricky to pop over from capetown for the interview). So its much easier to get a job when you have arrived (not saying its easy to get a job though - probably easier in UK). Your method of having savings to cover a few months seems probably the best one.

mrlodge is pretty pricey though I think and if you search the threads on this site there are some bad comments about that. I would also say hire a small furnished place initially and then see if and where you can find work
