I have bought some inline skates and want to go to the olympic park to practice so if anyone is interested in coming too... I have never used them before (or any for that matter) so i'm a beginner. Might have to go on a course with sportscheck if nobody wants to come along. It's not dangerous is it? I have elbow, knee and wrist pads. biggrin.gif

I got a pair last year, and still dont have a clue how to skate in them. Might be interested to join you. Keep me posted.

Inline scating ?

Brillant , is this rolling high speed singing or some rather messy sexual practice ? blink.gif

I might be up for joining you. I just pulled out my skates and skated to work last time it was nice and sunny.

would love to but flying home this weekend.

Don't want to scare you but I wouldn't recommend Olympic park for practicing, I tried last year an it's too busy. Also bitty hills you don't notice on feet, and knobbly bits around trees.

Theresienwiese is better, nice and flat and smooth.

Most of all I recommend doing a course, they do one for 30 minutes before blade night starts which would be worth going to (free).

I tried to teach myself... and ended up in hospital for a week! Still have blood trapped in my thigh 3 years later, despite an operation to drain it and a scar to prove it.

Then I did a one day beginner's course, and enjoyed it so much more. they teach you how to fall, too, which makes it way less scary and probably makes you react better to situations... there is a thread about it somwhere on TT, have a looksies... have to go now

oooo i would love to join too - have had inline skates for a few years, but never really used them cos i don't really know how to brake! but i'm flying home as well...
if you do a beginners course, let me know what you thought about it and if you'd recommend it!

I'm up for that. Why not? I haven't used my skates since last summer. I know of a good straight path through the Perlacher forest. ..where the turnaround point is a good beergarten!! I gotta do this one sometime soon.

Yeah I would not recommend Olympiapark either...very busy particularly on Saturday. Not for a beginner. Best place I have seen is the old runway down Neuperlach Sud way...Ottobrun on the S-Bahn I think...Tom took me there to practice...just a huge long stretch of runway...and not that busy.

I'd be up for this too... (weather permitting!)

Okay kids, I'm taking this as a sign that I need to get my skates sent over from home or buy a new pair.

When I turned 38 I couldn't afford lyposuction so I went for in line skates. Found out gravity is far more expensive than plastic surgery, but more fun. Nobody wants to talk about the injury sustained during a plastic surgery proceedure, but OhMyGod! let me tell you about the gravity storm I skated through last week! I can even show you the scars!!

I took a course and learned the basics like the snow plow, stopping, etc. So perhaps I shall make a skate acquisition this week. Granny can come on out and teach you whipper snappers a few tricks.

Thanks JB -
What about everyone meeting to do this course on Monday before the blade night so we can actually get out there more often with our skates? Right now they scare the living daylights out of me cos I don't know how to stop in them (had to actually grab a passer-by to stop myself skating into the road last time). Who is interested ? biggrin.gif

Stupid question...what is blade night? someone clue me in...thanks!
interplanetjanet
Sure, I'll be there.

@ajohnson
Blade night happens every(?) Monday during the summer months. Lots and lots and lots (hundreds?) of people get together for one big skate.

I'm not sure of elsewhere, but I know that Ismaning also has it's own blade night.

Edit: Blade night info here.

Great, do you know where the lesson thing takes place? I hope it's a proper lesson and not a case of diddling around for a bit trying to copy how other people seem to do it right.. Is there an actual teacher, do you think? smile.gif
interplanetjanet
I actually don't know anything about it. I haven't even looked through the search I just posted. I haven't even a clue as to where we shall meet. rolleyes.gif

Ok, so I revived the Blade Night thread. Let's keep Blade Night discussion there and general blading discussion on this thread.

Hrm. I was considering buying skates while I'm over here (haven't skated before, at least, off ice), and having my bf (correction, fiance! whee! sorry, still new) teach me, but I didn't know that I'd have the time/motivation to do much with it while here.

But maybe I will, if people are getting together to learn...

incase ur interested, a good place to practice skating is on the old runway in Neubiberg. ..long and flat. not sure how easy it is to get there without a car though.

I would also recommend the TheresianWiese for beginners. I may well be there myself on Saturday (18th)

Did you guys meet then? (on the 11th)
Will you consider to meet again this weekend maybe? wink.gif
