dry.gif Tai Chi is for relaxation, concentration, streching and correct breathing. It also helps with your posture, relieves stress and creates an inner smile through a better spiritual balance.

I am trying to organise regular Tai Chi - Yang-Style - classes for a group of 4-8 English speaking people with Rick Henderson every Sunday.

Rick Henderson, an American, started training in Judo and Ju-Jitsu at the age of 12, later becoming a black belt in both disciplines. He won the 1st full contact kickboxing open world championship in 1987.

Rick then decided to to study Sinology, Qi-Gong and Tai Chi between 1995-98. By 2001 he managed to succesfully pass his Tai Chi degree in Tianjin-Sport-University, China.

Eversince Rick has taught in and around the Munich area, mostly in the German language. I met him about a Month ago and thought his talent could be used for the good of the English speaking community aswell.

Plannned is a class every Sunday at one O'clock for about 1.5 hours. The place is not yet determined, though it probably will be in a hall on the Amalienstr., any other suitable location suggestions would be appreciated.

Don't hesitate to ask questions or add comments, or better still enroll on telephone number 0152 05638691

I look forward to the group. Phantom

Strangely enough my eldest son, who is a Martial Arts fanatic and has just begun training to be a Martial Arts Consultant, showed me a video on Tai Chi recently when I went home, as I told him a friend of mine recommended it. He also recommended it to me and it sounded good, so I might be interested if there is no upper age limit or specific fitness requirement.
Phantom
No, no age limits. And fitness is not a requirement

Cost?
Phantom
dry.gif Cost. Let me get back to u on that...
Probably around 10-12 €
Phantom
With a bigger class the price will go down. We want people who will take the Tai Chi seriously, and regularly attend. Then we can even work out a 10 er card or course fee. It will be fun!!!

One person asked if this could happen during the week as week-ends she goes to the mountains. This is also possible depending on the amount of interest and Rick's schedule.

I am interested! Weekends would be better - trying to stick to my resolution not to work weekends, this would help.
xargon
I am in.
icemocha
Sounds wonderful. Is that 10 per class, per month...Perhaps we could do a few session at the Englischer Garten this summer?

Weekends are best for me.

I'm interested as well.

I guess that early morning is more suitable for Tai Chi, at least i seldom see any Chinese people exercise taichi during noon time... cool.gif
zimmer
i'm in if it's NOT early morning, especially Sunday, i want to sleep in! keep me posted!
xargon
So how are we going to organize this?
Phantom
Hello there,

I think the 12th June should be our first lesson, at one O'clock.
Mornings are out for me as i like a my sleep on the week-end. Rick keeps telling me that the Chi (energy) is better or in more abbundance in the morning, that's why the Chinese perform their "dance" at that time, but i believe in sleep on the week-end. Starting to repeat myself...sorry.

The location is not yet decided, we could be in the E. garden.

Closer to the date i will post the location, i think we all regularly check this site, so believe that should do it.

Further or earlier times during the week can be arranged according to demand.

Rick reckons a one hour class will be enough, as the concentration wanes. So only one hour it is, though with arrival and departure plan for 1 1/2

Have not managed to finalise the cost.

I'm game if someone who knows their way about meets me somewhere! Haven't been to the Englischer Garten yet!
icemocha
Finding the garden is easy...U3/6 to Universität, follow signs. (Even the blonde found it...that would be me!) smile.gif

Its finding the group that could be a challenge. The park is bloody huge!

I find Tai Chi much more interesting outdoors in natural surroundings... I would be interested in joining with my boyfriend if you hold it outdoors. Englischer Garten would be great. Is €10 per 1-hour session? That for me is a bit steep, especially as we are two. Partner tariffs would be good wink.gif Please PM me with more information, including all price options, when you are decided. Is it going to be held in English or German (or both)?
DDBug
damn, just realized this is not happening tomorrow!

Phantom, I wonder if Rick Henderson knows of a Ju-Jitsu class that is held in English in Munich? Or, indeed if he'd be interested in setting one up? I don't speak German and found I struggled in a Tae Kwon Do class I signed up for. I'm due to start German classes soon, but I don't hold out much hope of every being good at it.

I tried Ju-Jitsu for about six month before I came to Germany and it was great fun and far more effective than any other martial art I've tried. I especially liked the fact they taught you how to use some basic weapons like a staff, swords, knifes etc, something most martial arts don't teach until black belt.

Tai Chi is a very good form of exercise, however, so even if he only wanted to do Tai Chi, my wife and I would be interested, especially if our little daughter (3 yrs) could also do something as well.

Kind Regards,
Shane Cook.

is it still going to be 12 June in English Garden?? weather forecast: RAIN! mad.gif
icemocha
I can´t make it this week. Work and all...hopefully the weather will be better next week and I will have time off to join in. Let me know how it goes!
Phantom
sad.gif Due to weather forecasts and the hall on the Amalien Str. being booked the 12th June will not happen.

biggrin.gif Rick and I have booked the Ahimsa Yoga Studio, Amalienstr. 42 for the 19th June at One O'clock. Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes and come a little before time.

huh.gif The cost is 12 € per lesson, regulars and partners may get reduced rates at later dates.

Call me if u have any further questions: 0152 05638691

We had the first lesson last Sunday. Apart from myself only 2 others came, if we had 3-4 more participents, great.

Rick will demonstarte the form next Sunday at 1 O'clock, then we will have our second lesson.

Importantly please note that the Ahimsa Yoga Studio is at 41 Amalienstr. not where i said it was in the last post.

Got to dash off and see Argentina beat Germany on ARD tonight. huh.gif

i might join the tai chi on sundays (not this sunday since i wont be in munich). but i am not sure if i can do it in a regular basis (time and money (i am a student!!! =(
is there place for me?
BTW, we couldnt beat Germany, but at least we didnt loose! ;-)
icemocha
If I make it through work this week still breathing, I will join you. But there are no gaurentees.
Phantom
The venue is quite small, so only a max of 7 people can take part at one time. But with 7, the individual price will go down.

Regulars would be better as the group will learn together and practice movements as a unit.

I have seen Rick give classes to different levels, he manages, but has to divide his time.

P.S. Well done argentina.
bernucha
well, that would mean that i might join, but not right now. i will ask again in july if there is still place for me ;-)

ps. i hope next time Arg will win (for my little proud and, why not, to show off a bit tongue.gif )

Hello there,

this Sunday the class will be held at Amalienstr. at 12 noon.
Rick has to go to a Wing Chuan Seminar, in the following weeks it will be back to 1 O'clock on a Sunday.

Last week we had 5 students including myself. Unfortunately 2 of these can't make it this week, so we have room for 4 more people.

Would be great if u came along. Let me know if your coming by sending me an e-mail to Phantom.Munich@gmx.de, then i'll be able to keep the students informed of any changes.

Best Regards

Phantom
