Two missing platforms at Ostbahnhof

Someone stole platforms 9 and 10

Can anyone explain what happened to platforms 9 and 10 at the Ostbahnhof?
The platform numbering jumps from 8 to 11. Have they been taken away for use in the next Harry Potter book?

Most public buildings in the US skip the 13th floor, is there some strange superstition that causes German railway planners to skip the 9th and 10th platforms?

Can anyone enlighten me?

Are there 2 sets of tracks, between 8-11 that don't have platforms?
These are usually used for express/freight trains so they don't have to wait for the commuter stuff... The platform #'s are matched with the track #...

Or perhaps they melted away at the end of the last 'Gleis' Age - ha ha ha,
Or are they on holiday?
Or they were pensioned out when Germany moved from narrow to standard guage railways and didn't have enough space for all the old ones, due to the wider tracks.
Or, more likely, they got transferred a few years back to make platforms at new stations such as Riem or the Airport...

And I bet I stand at Ostbahnhof tomorrow morning waiting for my connection wondering why I hadn't spotted it, and stare looking for the answer

I haven't got them honest! I'm not even from Liverpool!

According to the document here from lexicon bahnhof, the tracks are through tracks for freight etc and thus have no platforms.

The platform numbering also is a reference to the track numbers going through the station

would make sense I guess as the literal translation of Gleis is track rather than platform

There's not a TT trainspotters club now is there?

Anoraks on alert!
Propellor Head
Dunno about a trainspotters club, how about a platform spotter club?

...I did see a rather excited-looking gent (flushed, or lunchtime-a-booze) taking photos of the buses the other day. He was quite daring, standing in the middle of the road to get the best angle.

Ye may sneer but its the anoraks who help you out when you find it too much of a challenge to work out which S-Bahn lines go to the airport! tongue.gif

ANORAKS RULE! cool.gif

I took some pictures of trams last week huh.gif
crispybee
Why?

Taking them does not automatically classify you as an Anorak, unless they are the last few to complete your collection of seeing and photographing every tram in Munich.
Do you have a website like www.munichtrams-in-operation.de - see my exciting collection of every tram that opeartes the Munich tram network, with exclusive pictures of a class DZ250 Mk 8 with Buga advertising reflected in the window of Moshammers shop the say he died !
