Just wanted to resurrect this slightly:
The "Prag Spezial" ticket
http://www.bahn.de/regional/view/bayern/ba...g_spezial.shtml please could a friendly German speaker tell me whether there are restrictions and if my bahn card 50 will work on this route.
Second thing, the bayern bohemia ticket is valid all day on Bavaria wide holidays which I understand this Friday 15th August isn't. Is that right?
Do you think the conductor will turn a blind eye on the 8.44 train?
Would my 3 inner rings monthly travel card get me past 9am?
Sorry to be so needy. Just hoping to get the answers from some helpful chaps and chapeses before I resort to babel fish and google for hours when I should be cooking something to eat and not drinking red wine.
Ta Olly

To travel on the 0844 train on a day that is NOT a weekend or BavariaWIDE holiday (check, as some are NOT) then you will need a Zones 1-12 IsarCard.
You can try it with a 1-3 zone pass, but bring a couple of crisp twenties to pay your on the sport penalty fare with and your passport so they can enter your name into their file of fare dodgers.
In your case you need a single ticket from the edge of Zone 3 to the edge of Zone 4 which I guess is a kurzstrecke, plus I# say an Aussenraum day ticket for Zones 5-12 though a 2 zone single ticket may be cheaper. Check any MVV table.

No it's not a Bavaria wide holiday as far is I know but I could plead ignorance to the inspector
My pass is rings 1-3 not Zones.
Takes me 30 mins to travel 3 rings on the way to work on the u-bahn. Just wondered how far the Prague train gets in 16 mins from main station - more than 3 rings I'm guessing.
inner 3 rings are within zone 1, zone 1 has 4 rings. Still can't imagine need all 4 zones just to eat up 16 mins...you sure about that?

The whole MVV network is 16 zones, in a ring formation of 4 x 4.
But zones 13-16 needn't bother us as they lie beyond Freising station where the train makes its first post 0900 stop, at 0908.
It's not where the train theoreticly is at 0900, but the first place it is timetabled to depart from at or after 0900.
So you need to cover zones 3-12.
Would a conductor believe a sob story if it is not a Bavaria wide holiday on Friday?
Maybe. Maybe not.

As I didn't have time to go to HBF today, the cheapest way (still) for 1 person to go from Munich to Prague by train is to:
1) Get a Bayern-Böhmen Single ticket for 22€ from the machine or internet (valid till Plzen, after 9am only)
2) Buy the ticket for Plzen-Prague once on the Czech side for approx. 6€
So a total of approx 28€ which is cheaper than the Prag-Special. Is this correct? Has anybody done this recently? Also, is an ALEX train (from Munich to Prague) valid for the Bayern-Böhmen ticket?

Yes and yes: That's the cheapest option, and the Bayern-Böhmen-Ticket is valid on the ALX trains. Remember to buy your Bayern-Böhmen-Ticket or Bayern Ticket for the return journey before you leave Munich.

And remember a Bayern Ticket bought from an MVV machine in the You-Banana is per se not date stamped if your journey to CZ or further afeld doesn't have a fixed return date.
There are now 3 direct fast(ish) trains a day from the Czech platforms at Bayerisch Eisenstein = Zelezna Ruda, to Prague which may fill some gaps between the 0844 and 1644 Munich Hbf departures and vice versa..
