Fellow celiacs (or coeliacs if from UK )

I have found a small pizzeria that does gluten free pizza and pasta.

For the pizza, they prefer if you call ahead at least 1 hour to order (or just tell them you are coming - they just need to get the dough ready) and for pasta - they can substitute on the spot.

Il Salento Ristorante Pizzeria
Mo-Sa 11:30 - 14:30 and 5:30-11:00. closed sundays
Hess str. 15 (corner of Luisenstr)

Tel 089 54 32 07 65

I have to admit, I have not eaten here yet, but was given the info from a German client who has (both celiac and eaten there ). I plan on trying it out this weekend.

So nice to find a restuarant where we can order pizza or pasta - yeah!!!

Also, if you havnt been to the Vitalia shop near Viktualien Markt (sp??) recently - they have expanded their selection of GF products - there have an entire row of GF stuff - a lot more bread/rolls etc... They have the largest selection I have found anywhere in Munich.

Now, only if we could find a biergarten that serves GF beer - that would make my day!!!

Happy GF eating

fabulous! i may or may not be celiac, but i do seem to be allergic to wheat. can we make this thread into sharing recipes?

drat. can't do one off the top of my head, but i will...

How the hell do you make pizza dough with gluten-free flour? Pizzerias normally have to pay extra for the flour with "extra" gluten (translation: normal flour without some of the gluten removed, a common industrial practice since gluten itself is sold and most people don't notice the difference in everyday cooking use).

woof.

some celiacs can eat spelt (dinkel) or rye flour so that could be part of it, but it's also possible to make a rice-tapioca-potato blend, add xanthan gum, and it's just like real bread!

Sorry, should have added that they do charge extra for the GF pizza or pasta - but it is only 50 cents - so no big deal there. And they use a mixture or potato and rice flours at the pizzeria from what I understand.

Here is a link to some GF brownies - they are absolute heaven - the best I have ever had - even better than any normal wheat flour brownies

Hi to all those who cannot have a beer, my name is Ben Cowell. I received details of your forum as GOOGLE monitors all news on Gluten Free for me and being on a GF diet I thought you might be interested, in our project (of love)! I will not go into detail as to why this came about (if you really want to know I'll tell you) but it was for health reasons, though I am not a Ceoliac, though my wife is. We have created a Gluten Free Pilsner which has equalled Stella in blind tastings, and our aim is to tweak it to as close as Budvar, NB I’m doing this for a beer! We are 23 months into this project and without boring you it has not been easy. Originally when I went on the diet I had not realised I could not have a beer, then the penny dropped, so I thought maybe I could have my own micro brewery. Now the first delivery will 120,000 33cl bottles (not the scale when I first started this), hopefully this Autumn! We shall be putting up the beer site shortly, if you have any questions I will be happy to answer them.
Yours Ben Cowell

Sort of on topic - I might have coeliac disease and was 'researching' on the web for symptoms but only found a couple of small, limited symptoms. Can anyone find/does anyone know the symptoms? I'd prefer to know more before going to the doctor, as I suspect it's not so well-recognised over here in Germany. In fact some people have called gluten intolerance a British syndrome as people don't 'complain' of it as much here. Thanks.

Fortunately I don't have this, but something else. Thanks for your support. I'm so glad I can still eat cakes, biscuits, bread and other nice things (sorry, I know it's mean to gloat, but am relieved!).

Going tonight hopefully, will let you know about it tomorrow!

We went to Il Salento last night (having called up before to ask for 2 gluten-free pizza bases to be available) and have to say that we were both pleasantly surprised. I haven't eaten one before, but my dining partner had, and she said that usually they can either be tough or soggy, but never really great. The bases last night were just like a normal pizza base (until the very central bit which was a little soggy) - a crisp crust, and 'normal' texture otherwise. Very tasty!

The restaurant itself was ok.. didn't seem anything special; just a local pizzeria. The service was friendly - I think it was the owner himself who was serving everyone. There wasn't a huge selection of pizzas - only 11 on offer and none really fancy, though the Pizza Salento was nice.

Thanks for the recommendation, Eurobabs.

Glad you liked it. Yes, it is only a normal pizzaria, nothing special about the place at all - but the only one I know of where you can get GF pizza/pasta.

My mom is coming again in 2 weeks and has already ask me to take her there again for her birthday meal. She was so excited last time to eat there as it had been the first time in 10 years she had eaten pizza. Told her she could always make dough herself at home -but it just isnt quite the same as actually eathing pizza in a reataurant.

Did you by chance try the tiramasu (they make it with GF lady fingers) is also quite nice (again, just normal tiramasu, but where else can you get it made for you GF)

I always ask them to bake it an extra couple of min for me when I go there as they do tend to be soggy in the middle - ok, now I am craving pizza, have to wait 2 weeks though.
