I've been in Germany for six years in all (Canadian, from Quebec) and have never really been homesick, but over the past few months I've been yearning for a bit of Quebec... does anyone know of any French Canadians in Munich? Do they ever get together?
Carm
There are two groups of Canadians that meet, the Canadian Club, I could send you the web link and the French Canadian Club, I don't have the address, as I am a westerner, and not welcome by the French... but alas, there is a group you would fit in with. biggrin.gif

I think we all go thru stints of homesickness, I have had alot lately, but I go home almost ever 2 years... and am planning a 10 day holiday in July to Manitoba. So, I always get home sick for the simple way of life.

Good Luck.

thanks for the reply...and I am interested in the Canadian Club too, so any links you have would be much appreciated...

Bonjour Val,

I'll try and cheer you up a bit - I'm an Anglo, so be kind biggrin.gif and excuse my spelling/accent. Are you from Montréal?

Poutine, deux hot dogs, emportez votre vins, vrais croissants, Je Mais Souviens, St. Jean Baptiste, Les Canadiens, Voir, Jazz Fest, Mont Royal, Cafés en Outremont, petit pains Au chocolat, Boulevard St. Laurent...

Did I forget 'Allo Police?

Ahhh, mais oui, l'hiver.

I studied Quebec Film and Theatre as part of my uni degree, would love to visit Mont-Royal one day smile.gif
Hard to understand the accent though, had to watch some films with French subtitles wink.gif

I was born in Montreal, does that count? It's my favourite city on the planet (and living in Munich, that's saying something!)... wish I could live there again. Maybe one day.

There is a Quebec consulate here in Munich, it's downtown just off Marienplatz. I'm sure you'll find some kindred spirits there!

In the meantime... Montreal weblog

Salut val,

There's a group of Québécois that meets every other Thursday at Molly Malone's. I think the next meeting is next week. I can't remember what the website is, but I'll PM you the email of the organizer. Otherwise, we can meet at Andechs tomorrow. Chu Québécois. smile.gif

ohmygod Tim thanks for the shots of Montreal! I only lived there for a little over a year, but it's still home. Saint Viateur Bagels and Bilboquet ice cream...mmmm...

I don't know why I've been so homesick lately, but put me in front of une tarte Au sucre and put on some old Robert Charlebois, and I may well burst into tears...TABARNAC!!!

I actually grew up in Sept-Iles...it's little but it's on every world map. It's a town of 20,000 on the north shore of the St. Lawrence, 600 km east of Quebec City.

www.canadianclubmunich.de is the regular Canadian Club in Munich web page, they did have a meet up last week, neyt one will be in June, an then most likely something for Canada Day!!!
there are a few more Quebecers here so you are not alone.

Oh, sugar pie- trying to explain that to people is just too hard!!!

Bilboquet ice cream

They have ice cream with maple syrup mixed in and it's basically just chunky frozen maple syrup with some ice cream kind of added on as an afterthought. smile.gif

And of course the bagels and the smoked meat huh.gif drool.

Is this because you're from the West, or because you've often been quoted saying 'F$%^# Quebec' at Canadian Club meetings? Thank God you're not running the club...

Oh - meowwwww Claude. This thread is what, a year old?
I thought that was a nice statement to point out that there are two different organizations for Canadians around here, even though one discriminates tongue.gif
You're not making the French Canadians look very good (and I've heard Montreal is a lovely city, too).
Edit - I'm sorry, your profile says you are American. Nevermind. rolleyes.gif

How do you pronounce "F$%^#"? Is it French? unsure.gif

There is a new Canadian store on Jahn str. across from the x-cess club. It´s owned by a French-Canadian named Melodie (I think). They have loads of products from p.q. and at least one genuine quebecoise!

Hey Val smile.gif

I met a fellow Montrealer in Berlin and we've gone out a few times together. I've caught up on a little bit of gossip, and chatted about old times.
