I'm looking to trave to Leipzig tomorrow on the cheap.
My flatmate uses a website to travel to the north of Italy every few weeks and it only costs him €10 - €15 each way as opposed to €100 on the train. I cant get hold of hin to get the link to the site and dont have a clue what to search for in german so if anyone knows the site i'm talking about could you please post a link.

Thanks

Nicky
Mitfahrzentrale - don't know about link but you can phone them. OK? But I would expect them to speak German.

the links are:

www.mitfahrzentrale.de or

www.mitfahrgelegenheit.de

I´d recommend you mitfahrgelegenheit becaue you can see the phonenumber of the person who is driving.
With mitfahrzentrale you can only e-mail for free, but if you want to call that person you need to dial an 0190 number first.

I frequently use the mitfahrzentrale from the internet and I am very pleased.

The main difference between those two websites is that mfz is for both trips to destinations in germany and destinations outside of germany while mfg is only for in germany. That said, mfg is better if you are staying in country.

you can also use mitfahrgelegenheit for trips outsid of germany.

I used it several times to go to france and switzerland

What are peoples opinions about this car sharing ( http://mitfahrgelegenheit.de/ ) and the likes ? Is it safe ? Are the people typically dependable ? I know we are talking about the natives here and being dependable, so it shouldn't be an issue like back home.

So how often have people used this ?

I searched here for ride sharing and got this page:

http://www.toytowngermany.com/wiki/Ride_sharing

I've used http://www.mitfahrgelegenheit.de/ and it's great. Dependable, and you have their contact info in advance, you call them to make sure they still have space so you talk to them on the phone a bit. Meet them at some UBahn station that's near the edge of town though and you'll get out and on the highway quicker, then you don't make them drive through Munich to pick you up.

When I registered they wanted to know just about everything except my shoesize so that I would have pleasant passengers. Not that I got any coz I had to cancel the trip, but the organization sounds reliable.
