I have lost hope over the years...

Hello there ladies! I was wondering if anyone knows any fine German clothing shops where a younger not bad looking mom could find some nice swimwear. I mean like modern looking Tankinis or those suits with a bare back. I was at the mall and the inner city and I almost puked at the sight of these hideous bathing suits. Orange with huge flowers and I already have a suit for swimming, I need one for confidence (the cute kind you wear for the beach) So after looking up cute swimwear trends from the US I got depressed. Does anyone know any GOOD online shops or stores with a good selection for someone in their 20s?

Just wondering - thank you immensely!

BTW does anyone else have problems when buying shoes around here? I have never had so much trouble and I began to wonder if there is something wrong with my feet! There is not much you can do with a wide foot or a half size huh?

Be great if you gave your location or are you only looking for online stores?

First off, check if your US store won't ship.
Secondly, Boden. Size true, fun colours too. But this may not be your style.
Thirdly, it would really help if you posted some examples of what is cute to you. I love Rip Curl myself, but it's not for all.

Shoes tend to be narrower here as many are Italian and size that way. There are specialist brands for wide fits and also many brands for half sizes (I'm 37,5 myself but with normal to narrow feet). Are your feet VERY wide then?

Maybe try Landsend for swimwear. Limited range of colours - wide range of styles and combinations.

Shoes - pass - I have insanely narrow feet and find pretty much everything far too wide.

Otto.de and bonprix.de both have large selections. Marks and Spencer also had a decent selection last time I looked and they do deliveries to Germany now.

Karstadt - near the underwear section.
C&A - often better than you might think but you have to look
H&M - likewise
Karstadt sport - where I buy my swimming costumes.

As for shoe sizes... I have a half-size (6.5 = 39 over here) and can get nice wide fittings, too. No problem here.

I know I've recommended them many times on TT and I don't get any kind of gain by recommending them-- but try Lands' End, which in Germany is www.landsend.de. They use American sizing which if you don't know it so well but know German sizing can be converted by subtracting 30 from your German size for women's sizing. For example, if you wear a 44 in German sizing, you would wear a U.S. 14.

Excellent customer service and while the stuff isn't inexpensive it lasts FOREVER!

Boden was also mentioned as another recommendation. While I've never bought their swimwear I have some of their other things and the quality is excellent. British sizing-- I find I order one number up from my American size. Personally I would use their UK site boden.co.uk and have the stuff shipped to Germany rather than use their German site-- even with the additional shipping charge it is still often cheaper than ordering from their German site. No customs fees or any extra hassles, either.

Obviously I've never bought womens swim wear from them, but I buy a lot of my clothes from Lands End and can also recommend them. Not always cheap, but not excessive in my opinion and very good quality. Plus they have a returns policy second to none. If after a while you decide you don't like it, just send it back and they refund your money, no quibbles. I've sent trousers back that I decided didn't fit me properly and even though I'd worn then several times, it was no problem.

Please none of you dudes in Speedos... I get my fill of that nausea from all the porkly German who refuse to let go of the 80's....

You can order from their main site (www.landsend.com), they deliver worldwide. The .de site has very limited selection, range of sizes available is limited as well, and is way more expensive. Even if you add shipping costs, import tax, and whatnot, you might still end up paying less.

They use American sizing which if you don't know it so well but know German sizing can be converted by subtracting 30 from your German size for women's sizing. For example, if you wear a 44 in German sizing, you would wear a U.S. 14.
No, don't fall for that! You can't convert US/German sizing that way. The difference between one size and the next one up or down is 1 inch for US sizes, but 4 cm (~1.5 inch) for German sizes. Most conversion charts on the web are wrong, including the one on landsend.de.

If you do end up ordering from landsend.de, find the same item on their main site and look up the actual measurements in inches or cm.

I can recommend the Lands End tankinis and their swimsuits. I've bought from them for a number of years now and never been disappointed. You get get the tankinis in different sizes for top and bottom as well - really useful for me as I'm slightly er - unbalanced!
