Since its not too early for reminders about music festivals in August thought I would drop a message about the chiemsee reggae fest.
Last years was fantastic, Seed and The Wailers were the highlights for me and it was great to get to know many other bands that I hadnt heard of. Im sure this years one will live up to expectations too.
I will absolutly be going again this year, camping for the 3 days even though I only live 20 minutes down the road from it.
Definitly Germanys biggest reggae event!
Check out the info site in German because the
English one isnt ready yet.I shall keep you all reminded as the date approaches

Thanks, Kza!!! I had heard about this one, but didn't know exactly when it was. I definitely hope to go!

Sounds fantastic. Reminds my of my "hippy" days. I'm guessing this will be something similar to northern California's Reggae on the River.

Was there last year and would not miss it this year. Would be nice if we have a group of TT campers. Should be loads of fun!
My ticket arrived today so I thought it might be time for another reminder. Its going to be next month!
The english site isnt up yet, but
You can check out the program.I shall be camping, hope the weather is a bit better than last year, and I would be keen to set up a TT campsite if anyone else is going
Love Toots & Maytals! Wish I was there!
About the funniest thing I ever heard was at
Tollwood last year in the
Andechs music tent. The reggae band was a bunch of white guys (if I remember correctly) but the best part was the lead singer who was a white German guy with dreads who spoke English with a Jamaican accent...classic!
Or maybe it was the 3+ Mass or Guinness with ports that I had...

Yep. It's going to rock. My band is playing there too. We still don't which stage though. I think we're in the big tent this year. I don't think the english website will ever be up.

sounds like Gentleman with more hair than usual

(he's bald) I thought he was funny the first time I heard him sing / speak, but I like his stuff and his message.
Went to it 2 years ago...Black Uhuru and the man hissel' Lee "Sratch" Perry...was joyous...'specially when Scratch told the crowd that jesus and Bob both lived in his hair...or was it jus summat i smoked...heck...loved it
@ ryhntyntyn
So which band is your band?
It probably wasn't something you smoked ish, that sounds like a vintage Scratch statement.

We are called the beNUTS. I've been in for about two years as the lead singer. It just keeps geting better. This weekend we play at the Exit festival in Novi Sad. Munich has a lot to offer a musician. I am very thankful.

I have checked my work schedule and I am free that weekend. I went to this back in 1998. Would love to go again as it was a blast! Before I get a ticket I would like to get a couple of people on board to go with me.

@chucktduck: Well, Kza and I are surely going (got the 3 day ticket already). Inka and her hubby might join us too. I am pretty sure we will be a decent group.
Ok heres another reminder. Whos keen to set up a campsite then?

I'm definitely going! (minus hubby tho

)
Since all of my (scarce) camping equipment is in storage in Nevada, I'm staying at a little place in Grassau. But I'd love to meet up with some TT'ers while I'm there!

I've just ordered my tickets and will be camping. I'm keen pitch my tent in a TT enclave! Are you travelling by train? & are you going on Thursday night or not until Friday?
@Shallot, thats a good idea about going on thursday night, especially if we want to camp as a group. Last year I went on friday and there was much less choice as far as campsites as most people seemed to arrive on the thursday, I was still able to sneak my little tent into a primo location though.
I will personally be driving as I only live a few minutes away.

I can make it on Thursday if others are keen on doing that.

I just checked the website and there is a sonderzug at 14:32 from Munich HBF which gets to Übersee at 15:43. It sounds quite early but I guess it means we get to pitch our tents in daylight. Otherwise there must be normal trains too.

Well, I am going to be working Thursday. However, I am thinking of leaving by 6 pm. Let me know if someone wants to meet up and go together.
I'm on vacation then, and am very tempted since I've no other travel plans. What are the camping facilities like? Are there clean showers? Decent food to be had? I just saw on their website that some of the major headliners have cancelled. I suppose it will still be good?
Okay, just ordered combi-tickets for my daughter and myself. I'll have to find my tent and flesh out the rest of my camping gear. It should be a fun 3 days.

I'll definitely be wanting to go early on the Thursday if we want to meet up and go together.

I am still toying with the idea, actually - could be quite good
i do like that saturday line-up, but i'm not generally much of a camper and i don't have any stuff
maybe i'll see if i can borrow a tent or something
Still havent decided if I will take the thursday off and get there early thursday, but I probably will take the friday off and aim to get there either thursday after work or friday morning at the latest. As far as facilities, well I didnt really notice any apart from the bit of paddock that I pitched my tent on, what else does one need. Not sure if they have showers or not

I tend to have a break from showering and shaving 3 days before hand just to fit in with the crowd anyway. Food there is pretty good, standard international market stall type junk food. Fairly good selection for rural bavaria.
EDIT: Oh and the camping area only seems to open on Thursday 18:00 So its probably not that useful to get there too early on the thursday.

Camping gear for a short summer trip can be bought cheaply. You can kit yourself out pretty well for under €200.- at
Aldi and such. There's no electricity on the campsite, I read, so you can save on any electro gadgets you thought you might need.
Camping is half the draw really. I wouldn't want to have to find my way back to a hotel every night. I'm looking forward to spending several days with dirty feet.

Aug 10 2005, 10:47 am
So if the campsite doesn't open until 6pm and some people are working til later shall we get this train??
Muc HBF platform 9 at 18:48 getting to Übersee at 20:00
Otherwise, if you can sneak away from work early there is one at 17:59 from platform 6.
I'm wondering whether to get a spirit stove, or just to buy food from the stalls there. It is nice being able to brew your own coffee in the morning though
Kat
Aug 10 2005, 11:40 am
I'm not that practiced at putting up my tent that I want to try doing it in the dark. I'd rather get there as close to 18:00 as possible, so I'll go with the earliest of you. We probably won't all be able to travel together anyway, as some won't come until Friday, etc. If Kza has quit showering several days before the trip,

perhaps he'd prefer to travel alone?

well, i got my ticket for this today, so i'm gonna be there

should be fab
i'm sharing shallot's tent with her, but not turning up until the friday, probably around lunchtime
is anyone taking a camping stove so we can have a nice cup of tea of a morning? i'll bring some pg tips
I think I'm going to buy a camp stove if I can't borrow one somewhere. I do need my coffee in the morning. This is my list so far:
Tent
Sleeping bag
pillow
Flashlights
Fackeln?
Towel
Toilet paper!
lamps
picnic blanket
camp stove
pot for boiling water
little caffeteria for espresso?
Tetra-pack water (no bottles allowed damn)
breakfast croissants
instant coffee
pony-tail holders
soap
shampoo
toothbrush
toothpaste
hairbrush
band-aids
neosporin ointment
insect repellant
sun-block
plastic cups
coffee mug?
Cutlery
Swiss army knife
camp stool
1 pair jeans
1 pair shorts
bathing suit
3x underwear
1x socks
3x t-shirts
Sweatshirt
jacket
Handy
umbrella
air mattress
am I forgetting anything? (like how the hell I'm going to carry all this?)

flippin heck, i wasn't planning on taking so much stuff...
just a change of clothes, a toothbrush and some pg tips
or maybe some of those "wet-wipe" things as well
although having said that, i'll probably end up packing more than you, kat

i've just noticed Gentleman is playing on Friday night, i hadn't noticed that before! fab!! I'm listening to "superior" right now.
are you guys planning on staying there sunday night as well?
and Afrika Bambaataa!!!
*reaches for Leftfield album and logs off to boogie round flat

*
@Topsy: Well I know you've got Shallot bringing your tent, but you don't need a sleeping bag? I'll probably be game for Sunday night as well. I'm on vacation, so I'll be doing whatever I feel like.

I'm looking forward to the Blue Man group. (Sunday 17:45) Think they'll play Sing Along?
Topsy
Aug 13 2005, 9:51 am
ah yeah - sleeping bag, good point
and maybe one of those fluffy mattress things, so i can get a decent kip
i can't stand camping normally, but i'm gonna give it one last shot
Well if you hate camping, I suggest you bring as many amenities as you can carry. Nothing worse than getting there and finding yourself deprived of a towel or stumbling around in the dark without a torch or getting eaten alive by bugs because you forgot to bring repellant.
or having your pg tips and no mug...
Topsy
Aug 13 2005, 10:03 am
yes, you're right about the mug, hadn't thought of that...

guess i'm gonna have to sit down and start my packing list again from scratch
i'll probably end up arriving in a taxi on friday, a couple of suitcases in tow

Hi Kat - if you want to get there roughly in time for when the campsite opens then we could get this train:
Leaves München HBF at 15:42 from platform 6. Gets to Übersee at 17:06 and then, according to the website there are shuttle buses every 15 minutes.
I was wrong about the plastic bottles - you are allowed them on the campsite - just not in the festival area. You are allowed tetra packs up to 1.5 litres everywhere. No glass on the campsite though + no "Offenes Feuer" - I don't know if that includes gas/spirit stoves or if it means no bonfires???
@ kza & xargon - as you've been before - where do you reckon is the best place to set up the TT tents?
(hope this link works)
The yellow legends on this map look like showers, though I've also heard that there may not be any. They aren't named in the key.

Kza doesn't care if there are, apparently. Does anyone know for sure?

I don't think the 'offenes feuer' refers to camp stoves..
shallot
Aug 15 2005, 7:26 pm
"Duschen und sanitäre Einrichtungen sind auf dem Zeltplatz natürlich vorhanden." so being smelly will be optional.
You're right - you are allowed to bring camping stoves, I mailed the organisers to check.

I won't be able to go until Friday
although if the weather stays like this the whole thing will start to seriously lose its appeal
Thursday and Friday the weather forecast is 27°C and sunny.

Saturday should be warm, but maybe cloudy. I'll get a rain poncho just in case.

Hi, I will be arriving probably Friday morning/midday. Could someone PM me their phone number so I can find the campsite when I get there?
You dont need much gear, I was ok with just a tent and sleeping bag. You cant park close to the camping area so you want to minimise how much you have to carry from the car to the tent. People dont hang around the camping area anyway, just sleep there till the main concert and stall area opens up and hang out there the whole time, and just stumble back to the tent to sleep later on. As far as coffee and tea goes you can get it there. Its not like camping out in the bush. I reckon the best place to camp is as close as possible to the entrance that goes into the main area, but it doesnt make a huge difference, if it might be wet look for higher ground. And dont forget to leave a gap for my wee tent!

Those going Thursday early should meet up 15:15 here
here at Hauptbahnhof
Who all is coming then? Remember your concert tickets are good for the train as well, so you needn't buy extra tickets.
If that sounds patronising, it's just because I just remembered it myself - sorry!
Okay, I'll be there early to pass off my kitten to Kitkat64 (who's an angel for taking Jilly-the-kitten). Meeting at 15:25 will probably be early enough to catch the 15:42 train. Who all is meeting then? Shallot has my number. Anyone else need it?

Hi Everyone,
Do you know if you can buy tickets at the event or do they need to be purchased beforehand?
Thanks...
