Hurling - Irish field sport

Where to watch on TV in Munich?

Isn't it about this time of year that they play that weird and dangerous game called Hurling in Ireland? Will it be shown anywhere on TV in Munich?

I remember watching a classic draw between Cork and Wexel(?) in 2003 - fantastic game to watch, even if you don't really understand the rules. Something like a combination of hockey & rugby, with thai kickboxing and machete hacking thrown in.

If you can find somewhere that has Setanta, this Sunday is the Ulster senior cup semi-final replay between Down & Derry at 2pm (Irish time)

is that this kind of hurling, or that other nat'l pass time involving a few too many pints? wink.gif

Topsy
Isn't hurling the sort of thing they have on the telly in Molly Malone's?
I've seen some Irish-looking sports in there, accompanied by the appropriate accents among the beer-drinking watchers. But maybe it was gaelic football.
Worth giving them a ring, anyway, maybe.

Molly Malones will show almost any game for you, just ask at the bar and bob's your uncle. This is of course if someone isn't watching the game there already. And the Irish Folk pub shows all the games that one on RTÉ (Saturday and Sunday). Gunter Murphies tends to show the games if they are big enough and don't clash with soccer. Kilians only shows big games too I think.

On Saturday July 2nd there will be some live games going on as Munich Colmcilles host round 2 of the European Hurling League, here in Munich near the Ostpark.

Indeed! And they are also training every tuesday and thursday at 7pm if anyone is looking to join in rather than just watch it on telly!

details etc at Munich GAA website

Finally found a full list of Televised Hurling and Gaelic Football games.
Summer 2005 Hurling + Gaelic Football TV Schedule
This relates to RTE coverage which i know Günther Murphys, amongst others, will be showing.

p.s.
xxHC = Hurling championship
xxFC = (Gaelic) Football championship

Have you tried Shamrock? They are pretty sweet on the Irish football (or is it "Gaelic Football"?) in there.

Günther Murphy's didn't show the Cork vs. Waterford match last weekend. Went to Eddie's on Kaulbachstraße instead. Not a bad spot. Pity about the match result though!

From their website though it looks like Günthers are intending to show the Hurling + Gaelic Football over the summer.
