Nice game today! I am barely able to move now.

Gotta say, I like the cones.
jayhay
Wickid game today, you guys!

Thanks, everyone for the random donations for the cones - they're paid for now and are officially TTUF property smile.gif

All this crap weather has gotten me thinking (prematurely), we should definitely organise an end-of-frisbee-season evening or meal or something in October or November - when does the frisbee season end?

On that subject, what about the possibility of indoors play later in the year - is this realistic? Does anyone know a good spot?
benpanter
End of season must be when we can no longer play on a Wednesday evening. Using my astronomy powers, I predict that this will be when civil twilight (ie streetlamps switch on) occurs before 7:30pm. Given that we are at approx. 48'08"N, 11'34"E, and that we are 2 hours ahead of GMT, I reckon the last day it will be feasable to play frisbee on a Wednesday night will be:

28 September 2005 [GMT + 2h]

Begin civil twilight 06:38
Sunrise 07:09
Sun transit 13:04
Sunset 18:59
End civil twilight 19:30

Unless the clocks go back before then, in which case I need to recalculate.

However, I'm in the UK till the week after that, so no end of frisbee meal until I get back!!!

We should be able to keep up the Sunday sessions until the snow starts, which I guess was about December time this year?

There are Ultimate teams who hire sportshalls in Munich, but I'm a bit worried about the cost. Possibly we could share a session with an established team?
mybutterfly
are you serious Ben! it will start getting dark at 6:38 by Sept. 28. this seems too soon. let's make it at least the end of october. see what you can do about it, will ya?

it looked like a fun game last night. i like the cones, easy to spot. see you in a few weeks!
haynous
biggrin.gif
Ben - that's awesome!

Ditto the great game yesterday - I think that is the hardest I've had to work in a long time! Kudos to you guys on the dark-side that made me run so much!!!

Weather forecast for Sunday actually looks - well - good !?! Let's hope for the best!!

Thanks again everyone for a fantastic game yesterday.

I think he means it will get dark at 7:30 pm by Sept. 28, and starts getting light at 6:38 AM... Phew!

Well, un-kudos to you for not giving me a moment free! wink.gif

And darn bugs that bite me... I have a huge-ass bite on the back of my leg right above my knee that has swollen so bad that I feel it all throughout my leg, and with every step I take. Crippled, I feel, crippled! biggrin.gif
benpanter
Yeup, Eriiki's correct - the times are in the 24 hour clock scheme. It's actually still quite light after sundown, hence I use the end of civil twilight (when it is necessary to use lights to work outside). You can calibrate it a bit if I tell you what the times are for tonight:

Thursday
25 August 2005 Universal Time + 2h

SUN
Begin civil twilight 05:49
Sunrise 06:22
Sun transit 13:16
Sunset 20:09
End civil twilight 20:42

Hence look outside tonight at half eight and that's what I'm talking about.

If you're interested in calculating these sorts of things yourself, the US Naval Observatory very kindly provides a webpage:

I have to say awesome game yestersay...although I cant find a single muscle in my body that's not aching!!! wink.gif
Looking forward to sunday guys...
one51
I can find three. Two are my eyelids.

If the weather is excellent Sunday there's a chance I'll be jumpin'... so if I don't make it, each of you catch one for me!
ami_tom
I agree, great game...haynous, remind me to be on your team next time...your 'd' is too good.
as for muscles, maybe i should join for beers after all - it must help more than the cold shower i took (power outage doncha know).
cheers and hopefully see u all on sunday.
benpanter
...beer, the best muscle relaxant known to man. Those mass are medicinal I tell you!
haynous
I heard that Jay swears by PB&Js for post-frisbee Erfrischung.
jayhay
Frisbee again tomorrow (Sunday) at 16:00 in the English Gardens nr. U-Giselastrasse!
And the weather's looking good - 24 degrees and 0% (yes 0%) chance of rain.

Everyone is welcome - it doesn't matter if you've not played ultimate before, come along! biggrin.gif
(If you're unsure of how to get there, send me a PM and I'll send you my mobile no.)
benpanter
The weather looks pretty amazing today - looking forward to a great game! Have any of the lunatic runners in our party been up the Isar since the floods? I'm trying to decide whether it will be possible to cycle in today.
haynous
cool.gif
ditto - see you all in a couple hours!
one51
Let fly the posts about Sunday's game! It was an excellent challenge... although I wasn't quite up to it like I usually am. Dropped a lot of sh*te that I should 'ave caught. Quite good job to include everyone, I was glad to see our young friend (Thomas' son) score about 1/2 the dark team's points!

And, after a few hours at Hirschau, I was surprised to get home and find it was only half past 9pm! The exercise did me for...
ibskiboy
Thanks to EVERYONE for a great game yesterday and also thanks to mother nature for cooperating! A little stiff today. Lars, it was good to see that your injury does not extend to the Biergarten! Possibly some medicinal value?

- ibskiboy (aka Andrew from Canada)
benpanter
Has anyone else seen the weather predictions for this week? Looks like we're getting an Indian summer - forcast is perfect. Wednesday 6pm at Giselestrasse

EDIT: Thanks jay
jayhay
Great game yesterday.
It was nice to play in the sun for a change...

@ benpanter
Isn't that 6pm on Wednesday? smile.gif
(just so that harry potter isn't late)
haynous
Ditto the GREAT weather and game. I'm loving all this exercise the last couple of times out.

I also just learned that Philip (sp?), Thomas's son, has school starting up again and won't be with us any more - at least not regularly. sad.gif
davo
I can't believe how good the weather is for this week (and the [hopeful] forecast too). Pretty much perfect for ultimate IMHO. I've been waiting 3 months for this!! sad.gif

Someone pinch me... quick!
ibskiboy
It's looking pretty darn good out there. It's so fun to watch the beautiful weather from behind the computer screen... argh!

See everyone at 6ish. cool.gif
haynous
Got an offer to gather at a local watering hole and was invited to pass it on to all of you ... It is from Darwin, an Irish buddy of mine who is working at Rolls Royce near Goodwood, England, but is in town on a project assignment:

Cheers -

Subject: A wee beer or 9
Location: Hofbrau at Muencher Frieheit (not city centre!!)

An Anglo American German Irish drinking contest!!!

Hayne / Jay - please feel free to bring any freinds or colleagues

We will meet outside on Leopold Strasse.

By the way - that's a different Jay smile.gif
haynous
Oh - while I'm here ...

Ben - Marie is working on some peanut butter brownies. (Just thought I'd mention it.) Have a little refreshment at Chinesischer Turm after the game tonight?

biggrin.gif
brokenm
I will be there!! Perfect weather.
benpanter
@Haynous: My word. My word... I had planned to go straight home after the game today, but now there is absolutly no chance of that.

Looking forward to being able to see the frisbee this time as I'm picking up my specs on the way.
jayhay
Stupid funking work. sad.gif

There is nothing I would like more than to play frisbee tonight, but there's
not much chance of that, unfortunately ... Erik, I gave your DVD to Tim.
Hope the rest of you have a good game and see you in 3 weeks when I get
back from holiday smile.gif
TCH
It's been a couple of weeks, so looking forward to coming out to play today (oh beautiful sunshine, and not too hot!). See you all at 6.
benpanter
do you still want me to bring the book down jay?
Jules Winnfield
See you guys tonight. cool.gif
one51
The game really heated up at 7:50-8:20! We played until darkness swallowed the disc. I can't really claim having honestly scored the last point since my defender couldn't see the disc wink.gif

And, they have Urbock at Chinesicher at the moment... mmm!
benpanter
I can't belive that our two groups at chinese tower only converged when there was only half of one of marie's beautiful cookies left. I suspect a conspiracy to deprive the majority.

sigh.

but the half cookie I had was sublime - thanks!

Incidentally, should there be anyone remaining immune to the charms of, er, alternative Ultimate sessions on Sunday smile.gif there will be a group of us playing softball - with all the necessary gear provided by persimmon and her husband, starting at, I think, midday. All welcome, sign up on the softball thread or just turn up. All you have to do is bring beer, and last time it was great.

Otherwise, see you Sunday at 4pm for our own game. Location to be announced nearer the time.

This is the thread for the softball game on Sunday -

Co-ed softball in the Englischer Garten

Unfortunately no Magic Hat #9 available in Germany. Jeff can tell you how good this beer is, not as girly as some other fruit beers out there. But not as high proof as a lambic.

This weekend I will be in Belgium drinking the best beer ever brewed by man or monks, speaking of which it must have the divine approval of God if it's made by the clergy.

So unfortunately I will miss Ultimate! Have fun...
benpanter
Given that it looks like great weather and the softball is going on there too, tomorrow's session will be 4pm at Deitlindenstrasse. I'm not going to be able to stay that long as I'm off to the comedy, but there's nothing to stop everyone else playing for as long as they want!
ibskiboy
Wow, what a marathon yesterday! That must be a record, battling for 19 more points after declaring the "first to 5, win by two" and still not winning by 2! See ya Wednesday, hopefully with less bloodshed.
lilalu
cool.gif Hey, i'm fairly new in Munic, excited to join in tomorow! how long do u guys normally play? would i make it if i only come at 7? and does anyone know of places where people play volleyball regularly?
benpanter
We usually play for about two hours the go to a beer garden (tends to be the chinese tower). If you've played before (anywhere!) then coming at 7 is fine, but if you're an absolute beginner it could be a bit intimidating to wander into a game without any warm up throwing / explaination.

Ahh... what am I saying? Come down either way, I'm sure it will be fine!

And for everyone else this Wednesday we will be, as usual, at the Giselestrasse venue at 6pm
one51
I have been waiting all week since last Wednesday! Wahoooo!

Snap your fingers <now> for good weather...
lilalu
looks like the weather will be mighty fine! silly question, but do u guys play barefeet or do i need to put on my high-tec turbo runners?
schlimmdue
i would wear shoes...that's for sure. It quite painful if a cleat lands on your foot! sad.gif
AnthonyDoesEurope
Plus there are plenty of rocks.

Just wanted to say hey to everyone here, hope ultimate has been going well since my departure. I'm about 90 minutes away from going to my first practice for the ultimate team at my school, so that should be a ton of fun. Wish me luck, and hopefully I'll make it back to Munich at some point and join you guys again. Take it easy, and remember, never be afraid to lay out for the disc wink.gif

I hope you realize the irony of saying in the same sentence, "Take it easy" and "lay out for the disc"...

My goal is to run fast enough to never HAVE to lay out for the disc ;-)

Miss ya man... hope you're having fun back home!!
one51
May as well get this started now. Since the weather will eventually not be so great, but we still wanna hang out as an Ultimate crowd (because we are the Ultimate group!)... we'll probably have some social stuff going on in the winter when we can't find a frozen field to play on.

Army of Darkness Limited showing (meaning I don't have a whole lotta seats) at Dave's messy apartment. Short notice: it's this Thurs eve, since Jeff (wagz) is leaving in just a few days. PM me if interested.

Trapped in time. Surrounded by evil. Low on gas.

Ashe is accidentally transported to 1300 A.D., where he must battle an army of the dead and retrieve the Necronomicon so he can return home.

It's not a "true" horror film, but rather a satire of the genre. And damn is it funny, especially after a couple of beers.

-dave

p.s. At Ultimate post-beer today we determined that Jeff is 6'4" and Ben is something like 6'7". Ben is a f&$^ing tall dude.
benpanter
Indeed. 6'7 and 2m, although I'm no longer certain after standing up to Jules Winnipeg.

And with a little more relevance, you'll be pleased to hear that David has survived his encounter with the tree with manly stoicism, some anti-American slime and a slightly amused doctor. We learned a lot about the european extent of a terrible disease characterized by red on a map, although we're not sure what it is. Just be very careful if you go to Slovakia though...

Army of Darkness is an HILARIOUS movie!

"Good, bad, I'm the guy with the gun"

"Hail to the king, baby"

That and other quotes from this movie were hilarious in the old game DOOM.

After looking at the map at the top of this thread, this disease might also be in popular parts of Englisher Gartens??
