Sweet. I will probably be at the Sunday game in 1.5 weeks if my jet lag is enough gone.
Whistler has got some decent snow. Huge base, but rain/cold nights made it a bit icy. At least there is a bit of new snow coming (just a few inches but enough).

On the 17th February there's an one day (9:00 -19:00) indoor ultimate tournament being hosted in Erlangen. Players of ALL abilities are welcome. Participants will be sorted randomly into teams of 5 people on arrival, so it's not a matter of organising a team in advance. It costs EUR7,50 to enter, Erlangen is about 90 minutes on the train from Munich, so if a few people are interested we could either carpool or share a BayernTicket on the train.
The website for the event (in German) is here.I'm heading up on Friday to visit a friend, but would love to ride back with you guys if there's space on the BayernTicket. Looking at the waiting list, if Jake got bumped up, then two more TTers will have been bumped before him. That means there'll be at least 6 of us.
Btw. I love the was that the only person to have registered as an ultimate "Chuck Norris" is the organiser himself

Having said that, he probably is.

I got my confirmation e-mail too. Think I'll be riding the train too. But let me check...
robin13
Feb 12 2007, 2:46 pm
I've just updated the
registration page transfering those from the waiting list to the participants list. I'm real stoked you guys are all coming!

I'm going up on Friday (MFG or Train) and returning on Sunday because I'm visiting some friends there. Anybody want to stay over for Saturday night can bring a sleeping bag and ground mat and crash with me (I have an apartment available)

Who would like to meet and go together on a Bayern Ticket? I've checked out the times and unfortunately, the only trains leaving at respectable times are ICE trains, on which the Bayern Ticket does not work. This is what I see:
München
Hbf (This is the one I think we have to take)
Erlangen Sa, 17.02.07
05:16 - 07:14 ICE, RB
München Hbf
Erlangen Sa, 17.02.07
Sa, 17.02.07
05:33 - 07:53 ICE
München Hbf
Erlangen Sa, 17.02.07
06:21- 07:53 ICE
München Hbf (This is our only other option, but that doesn't give us enough time to get to the hall, changed, etc.)
Erlangen Sa, 17.02.07
07:22 - 08:55 ICE, RE
If no one else can see something I'm missing, I suggest we meet at 5am under the big departure board in the center of the
Hauptbahnhof. Let me know if you'll be there so I can buy one or two Bayern Tickets.

Please note that the first game is at 09:00!! You should be there some time before to meet your team, warm up... so I'd say the 5am train looks good. I'm going up on Friday evening.

Feb 15 2007, 3:03 pm
thanx for doing the research Tenley:
To me the best options look like:
München
Hbf Erlangen Sa, 17.02.07
05:16 - 07:14 ICE, RB
-or-
München Hbf
Erlangen Sa, 17.02.07
06:21- 07:53 ICE
I prefer the 6:21 even if we can't use the Bayern ticket because
1) I need a little sleep if I'm gonna play in a tournament all day! ... and
2) Eli and I both have bahncard 50 so the price shouldn't be so bad.
Any chance of talking you into joining us on the 6:21?
Has anyone figured out how to get to the gym by bus, or we could also spit a taxi from the banhof.

Feb 15 2007, 4:34 pm
Hi Scott,
Hmmm, the bahncard 50. Isn't that for rentners? Anyway, the one way fare that was shown when I looked up the times was 47 euros. I wasn't really searching for that, so maybe there's a fare special. I don't know.
hezamarie
Feb 15 2007, 5:36 pm
Hey all,
There are no seats left in the buggy.
I know a 20-something couple who had a Bahncard 50, 100...whateva. It's apparently worth it if you travel alot in Germany. So I gather the number doesn't have to do with age. Funny though.
robin13
Feb 15 2007, 9:08 pm

The numbers 50 and 100 on Bahncard are in reference to the percentage off the normal price you get. Bahn50 = pay half, Bahn100 = pay nothing. Of course you have to buy the Bahncard itself, which costs something like 250 and 2000EUR respectively.

Sorry guys, I have to pull out: still haven't fully recover from the flu I had last weekend and I don't think getting up at the crack of dawn to get a 5am train, a 2 1/2 hour train journey, a whole-day
frisbee tournament and a ride back down to Munich in the middle of the night would really work well towards my full recovery.
Seriously disappointed, but I really think I should rest this weekend.

Maybe somebody else can take my space?

Ok Tenley,
Even with our "old fogey bahn card 50"'s the price is a little steep for the ICE
Meet you ~5:00 am under the big board and split a bayernticket?

Yesterday was fun guys! (despite the knee) I learned a hell of a lot new skills and rules.
I am completely beat!
Next time I join an indoor tourney, I'll find out how many games all teams are set to play. Five games was my limit for my endurance level, six did me in. I also think the welcoming of beginners to indoor tourneys was kind of a misnomer. Compared to the other girls out there I should have ranked myself as "Door mouse under Cinderella's bed".
As the knee goes, I'm pretty lucky I got only a strong warning. It's not too bad just weak on the side. Thanks to Andy for his doc skills and those who donated their towels, backpacks, and moral support.

Feb 18 2007, 2:27 pm
Ditto on most of your thoughts about the tournament - once I was warmed up, I was okay with the overall level of ability, but I did think that playing 7 games was excessive, 5 would have been perfect. My legs are completely out of action today.
And glad to hear that your knee is going to be fine, we were all worried when we saw you were injured. Thanks again to Alex for getting us home in record time. I was in bed and fast asleep by 21:30

Ultimate game next Sunday (26.02) - Based on the current temperature and the forecast for the week to come, what about holding the first game of the week next Sunday, usual time (2pm), usual place (
Giselastrasse)? I was in the
English gardens this afternoon and the conditions were perfect.

Yay! I'll come. What do you think about doing what we did a couple of times last Nov - we meet at 2, and if there aren't enough people for a game by 2:30, we join the game at
Dietlindenstr.?
I am also extremely sore from the tourney, uhhgghhhh. But! I went out and (tried to) play yesterday for an hour - the weather was too good to pass up. I was pretty pitiful. What I found, though, was after playing an entire day with 80 people better than I on Sat., I felt much better playing with the Dietlindenstr. group.
Good suggestion, Jay.

There's another indoor HAT-Tournament planned for 21st of April in Ammersee (which can be reached on the S-Bahn directly from Munich).
I've started a thread about it here. Since there's only one sports hall available it's limited to 60 participants, so a good idea to register asap ...
Edit: Hezamarie, hope your knee's better by then

Some good pictures there, thanks for posting!
As to the game for this Sunday (25.02) - I would suggest we meet up a bit earlier than usual - around 13:40 - at the
Giselastrasse location to take on the pitch marked out by the
touch rugby group. Then if it should turn out that we don't have enough people for a proper game, we can head over to
Hirschau to join the other group without missing too much of their game.
